So this is it. I called earlier, and they have a bed, so I will be going into the hospital later today at 3:30 pm GMT, with my open-heart surgery set for tomorrow morning.
We wish you all the best and a speedy recovery.
Best wishes - I was thinking of you today and wondering whether it would go ahead. I hope all goes well and you recover quickly and smoothly.
Thanks for all the well wishes I’ll update everyone once I’m out of surgery and out of the brain fog!
Thank you. My thoughts and prayers remain on you, as before.
God bless, mate – may the surgery fix the issue, and may you recover quickly! Our thoughts are with you.
I dont want to say anything except I will put lots of cats pictures and emojis when you return here feeling better. You got this you have light and shade at your command.
May your day be blessed, may your surgery heal you and may you come out of it better than you went into it.
Sending blessings and best wishes for a smooth surgery and excellent recovery!
This month has been pretty awful…my sweet kitty, Void, swallowed string and we had to get her surgery. She recovered unbelievably well which is what matters. But unfortunately this is yet another several thousand dollar emergency that seems to hit my family every couple months. I have to quit my pet sitting job and find a job with more consistent pay.
Despite all of that, I was pretty productive and wrote 8k words for Meteoric and 6k words for The Mage’s Adventures, just barely below my goal of 15k for this month.
That is such an awesome name. May she not suffer from ill effects.
For me, some random character work to wrap up the month:
A multilingual moment
“It’s your move. You’re the one holding all the cars here.”
You give him an incredulous look.
“Cards. I mean cards.”
I got hung up on thinking about characters in therapy
“All right, then. Jaak—”
“Viktor.”
“I’m sorry?”
“My name is Viktor.”
“The file says you’re Jaak—”
“That was the designation given to me. Viktor is the name I chose.”
“I see. Wish someone told me that before all that work to learn how to pronounce it.”
“Ah.” The amused smirk is gone almost as soon as it appears. “For what it’s worth, you did do that splendidly.”
“Why thank you, Viktor.”
This might actually even work for my foreshadowing needs
“That was before I died, Jay.”
“What are you talking about? You’re not dead!”
“Are you sure about that? Because I’m not. Maybe I did die. Maybe I’m just an abomination who thinks it’s human. It’s certainly not any less plausible than any explanation to why I’d have survived. And in case you haven’t noticed, my body’s really not…” he trails off. “Maybe that’s what happened to Lyn.”
“Viktor, I keep telling you. That thing isn’t Linda—”
“No, I know. But does she? I assumed she did, but maybe she really thinks she’s her—”
So I was mulling over this, and ended up deciding to add a flamethrower to the armor the MC can get. (You’ll have to play nice with the spouse for that, but you can stab them in the back later if you still want to.
…and now I’m thinking I need to make an achievement for betraying everyone. And also some for naming the potential pet with certain specific names, while I’m at it.)
I am in a writer sprint I have written more than 1k so far that for me is incredible. I am also in a good mood. For now, I hope not jinx it.
I feel you.
Every game should have a flamethrower for the MC. Games that already do should have two instead.
Yess.
Oddly enough at this point those kinds of mix-ups happen more in my native language by accidentally literally translating English proverbs and then being confused no-one understands what I’m trying to say, but oh well
It is certainly easier when you’re talking with people who speak the same languages you do, so you can pick the word you’re looking for from the first language where you remember it, even if that’s not the one you’re currently speaking, and everyone understands anyway.
15,000 words added this month, despite being away from my laptop for half of it. That’s all right – not as well as I’d hoped to do, but all right.
Here’s to a productive May!

And you don’t mess with Porcupine.
Absolutely not.
If I end up doing a fantasy game with magic again sometime, I will keep this old adage in mind.
The last two days of April have been far more pleasant and productive, writing wise, than the last couple of weeks, and I was really happy to feel more able to focus. (Begrudgingly, I have to accept that if I’m finding it hard to write, I need to go out and walk or bike until I feel better, and then I’ll find it easier again.)
