I definitely think this could work. I think, if you really wanted to make sure it was conveyed properly and that it was taken the way you wanted it to be taken, you could add an exclamation after it. An example scene might be:

They shoved the man to the ground and kicked them in the stomach; hard. Their frustration was on full display. "Do that to me, will you?! Hm?!" They kicked him again, blood trickling from between the man's lips at this point. "ANSWER ME!"

Alternatively, a bigger statement such as “You think you can get away with doing ?!” or “Do , will you?! Under my roof?!” could also work if you were worried about not portraying it properly.

That would, of course, require the scene taking place under that character’s roof.

Also I’m now wondering what’s that one char in your post, that my browser shows as a checkbox, since I’ve never seen checkboxes used as punctuation.

Anyway, I went ahead and worked on my character-tropes-list and now I’m wondering if I actually should use it as a joke.

These are for the Help-I-married-a-supervillain -story

Korlát - Cool Shades
Sparkgap - Color-Coded For Your Convenience
Nachtkanker - Not Wearing Tights
Overlook - Flying Brick
Dr. Skinner - Labcoat of Science and Medicine
Blastwave - Cheap Costume
Mær/Mare/Mara - Draconic Humanoid
Sascha - Post-Apocalyptic Dog
Sleipnir - Horse of a Different Color

These are some other characters from various other story ideas from the same world

Volnad - Eyepatch of Power
Günther - Right-Hand Attack Dog
Vana - Clothing-Concealed Injury
Vector - Emergency Transformation
Void - Wetware CPU
Vortex - Wardrobe Wound
Local - Coat, Hat, Mask
Bullet - Up, Up and Away!
Afterthought - Containment Clothing
Cuttershark - Nothing Up My Sleeve
Quicksave - Super Wrist-Gadget

Here we are with May’s monthly release and update digest! Congratulations to everyone who’s written something this month, whether you’ve shared it or not.

I usually do these at the end of the day, but I’m travelling later today so will do it now and add anything missing afterwards; apologies for any errors or formatting oddities - I’m on my phone.

May was a lot better for writing. I did finish, playtest, submit and revise Chapter 10 - yay! I’ve also planned and coded Chapter 12 - I don’t usually do it so out of order but things coincided to make that the best way of handling this immensely large and complex section. And I’ve planned most of Chapter 11.

I was busy with some other work last week, and this week I’ve been on holiday, and I hope to return to plan and code Chapter 11 by the middle of next week. Fingers crossed!

While on holiday, I’ve been taking time to play some old and new games - so far I’ve greatly enjoyed Love Undying: A Kiss Before Dawn, and am a little way into Silverworld.

This month, I wrote 8k words total, 2k for The Mage’s Adventures and 6k for Meteoric. That’s below my goal of 15k, but more importantly, I finally submitted the 52k word update of The Mage’s Adventures to Hosted Games

Couldn’t meet my personal deadline this month for neither WIPs. Part of it is writers block or in this case overload as i keep scrapping sections & rewriting it.

June though, Im locked in…probably.

Mission accomplished. Except the fear-swallowing. I’m still pretty terrified. But you know, considering all the things I did get done this time, I’ll take it.

Would it be possible for some people to dm me? I would prefer to get some private playtesting for the prologue I wrote. It is 12k words.

I did it :stuck_out_tongue:
And managed to make some progress on a WIP that had been gathering dust, and also made some silly tiny (on purpose) terrible games!
Really looking forward to what June brings!

I’m sorry, I just had to share this:

EDIT: Also, if someone has taken complete leave of their senses and wants to try their hand at making something in the world of Secrete Histories, apparently you can:

Well to be fair it reads as “sosk”, but that also makes it sound similar to соска/soska/pacifier which is still kinda funny

Overall, May was fine for me. Definitely better in terms of writing compared to previous months. I’ve probably written more than in March and April combined.

I challenged myself to post an update before June arrives, but it seems to not be happening. There is plenty of things to do still.

Looking forward to next month.

This is the customary post for the end of the month. I hope everyone has had a good and fruitful month! (me, not so.) And see you next month, same place!

I think I'll just close the month with this

“I suggest you scram, before I decide to make you pay for the dry cleaning.”

And 45,000 words later…still no update. :frowning:

But I’ll get it done in June!

Here it is, the end-of-the-month check-in:

The pre-beta testing is well under way, and among the 100’s of low-level editing fixes reported (yes I suck at grammar) I have received some really great feedback that has inspired me for changes to the narrative and the mechanics of Patchwerks

For those of you who are participating in the testing and who see this: Thank you, I could not do this without you!

In terms of wordcount I haven’t done much last month, but I did manage to keep up with the prompts from the writing group on Discord, so I count that as a win. (Prompt fills should be somewhere around 1000 words)

Literally juuuust helped my little bro submit a scholarship application, one second after it hit midnight (AKA the deadline) but hopefully it’ll be fine! (Update: nope.) I helped edit his short essays, compile everything into the application email, and all that. Whew. It’s a bit rushed so we didn’t have time to do the best formatting of the application materials but hey, it’s done.

Because of my hefty personal situation taking a lot of my time and energy, I wasn’t expecting to get much done this month, if any at all, so “any at all” is exceeding expectations! Wow! I took a chunk out of my first chapter and I’m planning to rewrite that whole section on choosing what kind of “build” you want your PC to have so that the choices better reflect what those builds will allow you to do in the story and also to make the expository/explanatory parts less… bleh. Also added a tiny bit more info to my character document where I’m using the template here* (thanks Eiwynn). Hopefully in June I’ll be able to give my friends and parents a Dashingdon link to read what I’ve got so far, and then maybe in July I’ll get a WIP thread up with a two-chapter demo? We’ll see.

I also got sidetracked thinking about the IF project I wanna do next even though I know it’ll be a long while before I can start that in earnest… But I can’t help it, I’m excited for it! It’s gonna be a villainess isekai thing. But yeah I’m gonna make sure to finish my current one first, haha.

*Edit: I ended up modifying the template a bit, adding Gender, Interests, and Humour sections.
