Honestly, the research into writing is one of my favorite ways to waste time and the more obscure the subject I’m researching the deeper the rabbit hole I find myself in.
My view of this is following: if you can’t take a random discussion on Discord (or a forum thread) on a community you’re part of, and recognize every participant in it without looking at their usernames/avatars/profiles, there’s no reason all your characters should be immediately recognizable by their words alone all the time. Just write them how their personality dictates. Mannerisms for mannerisms’ sake get grating very fast.
Steadily filling in some of the gaps in Phantasmagoria’s chapters I’d managed to leave out as I get spare moments to write.
Today I did “player manages to temporarily subdue a hellhound bent on crunching their bones.”
Do you think most players will…
A) Leg it out of there while their skin is still firmly attached. (Logical option.)
B) Decide for whatever reason it’d be a swell idea to break its chain and let it run free… (The what if response )

Choose (I’m genuinely curious what players go with, but kinda leaning towards more people choosing option B though I could be wrong.)
I imagine it did! I’ve had to force or *if choices in my randomised scripts before. The rand command doesn’t always play nice with randomtest ironically enough and can cause it to circle until it has a meltdown error. Glad you got it fixed
Your actions have unlocked a transformation to chibi hellhound
(Why is this picture I found so cute? It’s meant to be a terrifying underworld entity. You’re going to say I should have an option to pat him too under the laws of if there is a dog you must be able to pat it rules?)
Edit: You know, why not? I’m not being held responsible for the consequences if anyone tries it though
Edit 2: Now I really want a game where you have an otherworldly folklore canine companion like perhaps a Cu Sith or Black Dog. Must resist and not start any new WIPs until the old ones are finished. That was on my new year’s resolution list. I’d still really like a game with something like that though )
I think there’s an exception to the rule when it comes to terrifying underworld entities. I’m just desensitized to bitey hellbeasts because I live with one.
Haha, no specific plans yet, but I’m sure I could fit it in somewhere. I mean, you’ll totally get an eldritch abomination horse in my “I married a supervillain” project, and your dad in my “help, my dad is a supervillain” project (I have a thing for supervillains, okay?) has an eldritch-powered sabretooth (well, it’s technically a part of him that a botched blood magic ritual caused to be able to exist as a half-separate entity but anyway).
I am really happy when @AletheiaKnights gets well-deserved recognition! She’s always such a positive presence and there are loads of games (mine very much included!) that would be much less good without her input.
I love hellhounds and other beasties; yesterday I was naming horses. Something I’ve been doing in Honor Bound which is a bit naughty is mentioning animals and then forgetting they exist. I mentioned peacocks in Chapter 2 and forgot to mention them again: anyone who’s been anywhere near peacocks will know that they’re impossible to forget about in reality So that’s on my to-do list.
Earlier this week I was very low on energy but I dragged myself off to the marsh this morning which gave me a lot more, and I’m feeling readier to rock. I also got a sneak peek at the in-progress cover art for Honor Bound which is so, so beautiful and I can’t wait until more people get to see it too. What I should do at some point is get all the covers printed and put them up in my workspace so I can admire them properly!
@leiatalon, @Stewart_Baker, @HarrisPS, you guys are all just too kind. I’m so happy to be part of a community where I get to support people like you making your wonderful stories.
Well you can’t befriend it but Daemonglass will have a daemon possessed dog at one of the parts.
This might be the first time I take away the kill option for the host as people want to pet the dog not put it down. So it will be non-fatal only and will end with the most important choice you must make.
Here is January’s digest of new WIPs, releases, and updates! Congratulations to everyone who’s written something this month, publicly or otherwise. If there’s anything wrong or I’ve missed something, please let me know.
