Haven’t done any of these yet, but yesterday my little sibling-friend wanted to read together so he read The Lightning Thief to me over a call, and then later I picked up The Circle by Dave Eggers from my bookshelf (one of the many yet-unread books there) and read the first few pages which was strange, bonkers, good. I was almost like “this isn’t the time to be reading” and wanting to put it back but then another part of my brain was like “you’re reading a physical book this is such a rare occurrence you better keep it going a while longer!!”

On a whim, changed my document titles for my contemporary fantasy slice-of-life from the old working title that I knew I was gonna change anyway, to the latest title idea I had. I mean, I haven’t 100% locked in on it, but just felt like I should update it. Creatures of Kellevere → Precious Metals, for now. And it was interesting to realize how the blurb I had written (at least the first paragraph) was closely built around the title, around the character of the town, and now that I’ve changed the title, the focus feels shifted and I may or may not want to change the blurb to reflect that.

The blurb

The seaside town of Kellevere sits in Halfmoon Bay, which leads to the Red Ocean and the Firesea Reef. It’s small and picturesque, something of a minor tourist destination and summer vacation spot for rich people from the surrounding cities. The tourists and rich vacationers are, by and large, human. A lot of the townsfolk? Well, not so much. But no one needs to know that.

Since you keep tabs on this sort of thing, are there any news regarding… uh… Castle of something? maybe? Julian Kim’s second game that I can never remember the name of.

Undying Fortress? No, I’ve not seen anything about that one unfortunately - the only thing I’ve seen is that it’s in progress but there are a number of other in-progress games that aren’t on that list so I’m not sure how often it’s updated.

One day I’ll manage to remember the name of that game.

I’m ending August with the archery contest nearly finished and the current total word count for the game is 100,589 words of story+code.

Although worryingly that is nearly 5,000 words less than what it was at the end of July. I know I’ve made some changes and rewritten a few scenes, I am surprised about the drop.

I hope I haven’t accidentally removed a scene (I’ve looked and nothing seems to be missing). I just need to finish this chapter and then push an updated demo and hopefully if something is missing, someone will notice it while playing the demo.

I did both of these things! My writing was surprisingly productive in August, and I’m very pleased with the most recent iteration of [secret project].
