I, the Unbroken One [ITFO Sequel] [August 19, 2025]

FINALLY. It is time.

After some terrible inefficiency, the first chapter of the sequel to I, the Forgotten One is ready for release. If you have never heard of ITFO, the link to its demo can be found here.

Plot Summary

Three months have passed since Queen Elya’s dramatic rise–and potential fall–from power. An early winter has placed the war on hold, but finally, the snow has begun to melt. In the east, a great and terrible power slowly moves toward the heart of Kanton. The Janowitz call for aid, and the crown must answer.

Should Sobik’s bastard have taken the throne, they must deal with a disloyal and unruly kingdom. Conspiracy in their own home causes chaos. Will they maintain an even hand and guide Kanton out of darkness? Or will they succumb to paranoia and tyranny?

If Sobik’s bastard remained loyal, they must deal with the existential threat riding in from the steppes and the threat of their own spiraling thoughts. They no longer teeter on the edge of a cliff, but the road to recovery is a long one. Is it even possible to walk while marching at the head of an army?

Here are the features at a glance:

  • Continue the story of the Marshal from I, the Forgotten One
  • Continue from three possible ending points, as either Marshal, Regent, or Monarch of Kanton
  • The fate of characters rest in your hands: save them, let them die, or kill them yourself
  • Lead the Marshal down a path of peace, or let them embrace war as their only future
  • Seek reconciliation with the Church or scorn her entirely
Changelog:

August 19th, 2025. 1 chapter, 89,976 words. Initial upload.

Unique Features:

Returning from ITFO

All major features will return from I, the Forgotten One, including the intimidation system, the race system, unique gender interactions, and the three primary mental health routes. Your entire army can be recreated exactly as it is in ITFO inside ITUO.

Romance

There will be one, possibly two new romantic interests introduced in ITUO. This will include an exclusive F/F romance route. Additionally, a future character not yet introduced (not Rade) may be made romanceable as well.

Perspectives

ITUO regularly bounces perspectives between characters, continuing the tradition established in the first novel and reinforced by Whiskey-Four.

Wordcount: 89,976 words, 1 chapter

Additionally, I have opened a Patreon! If you are willing to pitch in a few dollars a month to support me and hear my ramblings about writing and ITUO, I would greatly appreciate it! Thank you so much! The link can be found here: John Louis | Author of Interactive Fiction | Patreon

The public alpha can be found here: CoGDemos . I would highly recommend playing a save with as many characters alive as possible, as dead princes do not provide compelling interactions. Additionally, the usurper route currently has the most variation, and may be worth a try even if you remained loyal in ITFO.

If it wasn’t for that Orioles game going into 11 innings after two separate bullpen disasters, I would’ve been jumping all over this demo already, I’m here now though, really excited to see what you’ve cooked up

Not sure if error, oversight or conscious decision, but the character creator doesn’t list the hairbrush as the old relic option. ;/

edit: checking the script, it is gated behind:

	*if (hair_length = "long") #a silver studded hairbrush.
		*set item "hairbrush"

but in the first game it was possible to select it as the relic and then optionally cut hair short(er) once the campaign started. So i would suggest to get rid of this limitation, as it doesn’t allow to re-create the state possible to define in the 1st book.

edit 2: okay, checking further the hair trimming is enabled/covered as latter option. Since there’s no mention at the initial creating this is the case, it can be a bit confusing which state exactly the player is defining when asked the first time.

Super excited for this, really love your writing and I’m pumped to see how the Marshal’s story ends! Just one thing I noticed, if you select to insert your own army numbers, I don’t believe there’s an option to say how much unwounded heavy cavalry you have.

Regarding manual definition of imported army, it may be more convenient to allow the player enter actual headcounts, i.e. 1698 instead of 8.49 for infantry etc and then convert these numbers under the hood. In part because the game only allows to specify integers, so the player can’t enter fractional numbers accurately and has to round these values up/down.

tbh I would have skipped if you didn’t include f/f this time

Looks like a bug at the start of Chapter 1:

*if (b1_Ending = 0)
//...
*if (b1_Ending = 1)
//...
*else
//...

second if should be elseif. Currently the parameters set by b1_Ending = 0 (if that condition is met) are immediately overridden by the last else and quite lower as result.

The hype is real I can’t wait to honestly dig into this next one, also dang I was really hoping that Dismas could of been a potential romantic option but alas it wasn’t meant to be.
