Interest Check Thread

Hi! I’ve not yet posted any topics on this forum so do forgive me if I make any mistakes or anything. In short, after reading WIPS and works on here for quite some time, I’ve decided to try my hand at creating a story of my own. This thread is made mostly to know if people are interested in reading–or, well, playing–it. Just to be clear: you would have the choice to be female, male or nonbinary; heterosexual, homosexual, bisexual, or aro/ace.

Now, as for the story…

SUMMARY

The only present you were ever given by your parents was the shawl they wrapped around your little body before they left you in the underbrush to die. Though you were alone, and afraid, kept company only by the leaves and warm by the breath of the animals that watched you with their misty gazes, you did not die. Instead, you were told, the trees around you bent over and kept you safe from the scorching sun and heavy rain until you were, eventually, found by your true mother and father, a farmer and his pregnant wife. Alongside their own sons, one not yet born, you were fed, nurtured and taught the way of things, with a tenderness unfamiliar to you.

Since that very day, in the slight, sleepy village you call home, you have lived a life of routine—ekeing out a living through an unending cycle of growing, harvesting and trading fruits, vegetables and herbs with the other families. And since that very day, too, you have lost. Of your seven brothers, since you were taken in by your family, six have died. The one your mother was expecting, born lifeless. When you were six years old, three were taken from you, one by one, because of a disease that turned many women you know wives to widows, innocuous children to orphans. One took his own life in the wake of their passing. The very eldest one succumbed through a foolish incident out on the fields—an incident you, alone, were witness to. Your mother despised you from that day on to her deathbed. The last thing you remember of her, her face drained from all of its color and so much of its flesh, is how she spat on you and called you a curse–penance, for misdeeds she must’ve been guilty of in another life.

And now, barely a fortnight ago, your youngest brother, Iosef, too, has vanished, with not a word to you, or your father, or any of his friends. With not nearly as much indications as you possess resolve, only the word of your brothers implied fascination with the cult in whose shadow your village lives, you leave your home behind for the first time in your life to return your grief-stricken fathers only child to him. You do not go alone, however–you are joined quickly by an old companion of yours who worries too much, and your brother’s former ‘friend’, too, insists on coming with. Together, can you find Iosef, and bring him home safely?

(PLANNED) ROMANTIC OPTIONS

I have in mind (for now!) 3 romantic options!

  • Your (somewhat estranged) childhood friend, the tall, dark-skinned Astid. The two of you grew up together, playing along the river and scaring one another with tales of fanged beasts in the dark, before the two of you drifted apart, as old friends so often do. Still, through the years, while you’ve tried to keep your distance out of fear Astid would end up like your brothers, she has remained fond of you, and worries about you whenever she is not entertaining the village children and very much intentionally upsetting her father. Astid is female, uses she/her pronouns and is romanceable by all MCs.

  • Iszak (male; he/him pronouns; again, romanceable by all MCs), a travelling monk you encounter along the way. Iszak warms up to you quickly and feels for you when you relay to him what you’ve been through, because he has known a great many losses in his life, as well. Speaking of purity, honor, and duty in a rumbling baritone, Iszak is a bit peculiar, but seems trustworthy, and that is enough for you. Iszak is a behemoth of a man at almost 6′3″ with fawn skin, loosely curled, tawny hair and dark eyes.

  • The third RO would be Oryx, a… being more than they are an individual. They have pale skin, pale, long hair, and sharp eyes. Crowned in gold and glory as the object of worship of the Children of Oryx (in other words: the leader of a cult of their own), they hold life in their hands as one may so many grains of sand. They are mysterious, treacherous, and, as you quickly find, irrevocably interested in you–but not particularly in the way you may expect. As they themselves would say, they transcend age and gender. Oryx would be solely romanceable by female MCs.

… So! That’s that; that’s what I have thus far!

Thank you to all for even reading this, and I hope you’re all well!

This might be a super dumb idea, but I usually have no ideas, so I’m happy to at least have one right now, lol.

Intro

Being dubbed ‘Functionally Indestructible’ by LEHA (League of Extraordinarily Heightened Ability, universally known as the Syndicate) isn’t all just a walk in the park, you know.

As the walls close in around you, you’ve bitten the bullet and sought out your previous allies. Even so, trust is a rare commodity these days - an impossible weight to carry on both sides.

Will you be the traitor they say you are? No matter.

Despite the world, you will scrape yourself off the floor and claw your way upwards - bloody tooth by bloody nail.

Premise

The MC has the power of being technically indestructible. They’re actually more fragile than the typical human - they still feel pain and they can (and often do) get smashed to absolute smithereens. But the catch is that they’ll inevitably reform and regenerate back into themselves. Like malleable slime in the shape of a person.

So. They used to work for a Syndicate that ruled the usage of supernatural abilities with an iron fist. (Hm, a shadyass agency? Wow, I’m so original, I say with deep sarcasm.)

The MC used to be sent out on missions with their trusted teammates and confidants, but one incident went majorly sideways. They fucked up and they were branded a traitor and a Flyaway. So they took off.

For the past few years, they’ve been trying to stay under the radar, mercilessly hunted down by a ‘Shadower’ - a Syndicate member assigned to gather info and follow them to the ends of the earth if need be: to secure the target no matter the cost.

But now, a new, citywide threat has arrived (tiptoeing around spoilers…) and things are getting worse.

With no other options, they’ve now gone crawling back to their old team to beg for help (the potential friends/ROs) - praying that they all don’t hate them enough to immediately turn them in.

Bonds are reforged, explanations are given, feelings rekindled, but of course, there’s always the lurking paranoia that… one of their teammates might be a shadower. And how would you know?

I haven’t decided on the ROs yet, but I have plenty of characters bouncing around my head and in my Google Docs that just might fit the bill…

Eyy hello guys! I have a short premise so far but have made progress for Chapter 1.

Basically, it is an anti-hero story idea I have for one of my future comics but decided to code it in CSIDE to further elaborate the story. Major Inspirations came from BNHA, Unordinary, Fallen Hero: Rebirth, and Death Note.

TITLE: Fractured Dawn

- S Y N O P S I S -

Synopsis:
In a supernatural world, you have always been powerless. However, when you discovered your unique, special ability, to what purpose will you use it?

Beaten and torn to shred by society, Diabolos, head of a villain syndicate, takes you in. Soon, you will emerge in the spotlight as both a hero and a villain.

- F E A T U R E S -

Areas I will focus on;

  • Infiltrate the hero academy and acquire intel for your syndicate, or betray them for your own interests.
  • Be both a hero and a villain at the same time. Literally. You may have different Aliases for each side. Commit crimes and save people at the same time.
  • Scheme and manipulate people, or try to save what’s remaining in your conscience.
  • Develop your newly obtained power, or attempt to solve things without it.
  • Seek retribution to those who wronged you, or find forgiveness along the way.

The story is more character-driven. Stats will still play a role, but I’m more focused on story-telling. The relationships and choices will heavily influence your story’s direction.

- R O M A N C E S -

Ah, of course… romances. Be warned, though. I will allow options for the MC to kill off characters, most especially the ROs.

Unfortunately, I can’t give much yet.
I have planned 6 possible romances (2 villains, 2 heroes, and 2 citizens) so far, but haven’t fully developed them.

Ah, forgot to mention. The mc can basically copy any ability for a day. After that, mc goes back to being powerless again… Yes, the latter is absolutely possible. In absence of your power, you may use other means. (personal skills or gadgets)

This sounds really interesting. I would love to read it!

This line has me intrigued, will the latter actually be possible? Owning the supers without using any powers yourself always has a special feeling to it and anyway it sounds like the mc’s power or powers may have kicked in too little too late anyway.

Ah, yes, indeed that is far too short to master any of the powers anyway, so the mc would basically be restricted to the most basic and obvious manifestations, might as well forgo them entirely then.
Sadly you said copy, not steal, or else they’d be really useful, as leaving a super hero or villain powerless for a day would definitely be something they’re not used to and would have given the mc an advantage in most situations. But,yeah, merely copying their powers for such a short time isn’t really all that useful.

I love stories including being able to be a hero / villain, this would be really lovely to read!

I’m gonna batman the CRAP out of this! Screw power’s, I’m gonna own my enemies without em! Basically, I like the idea. I like it a LOT.

Hell yeah :joy_cat::smile_cat::smirk_cat: lol a powerless beating the crap out of powereds is SO satisfying…

The plot is very intriguing! I’m curious, however - I suppose the Shadower is a different threat altogether from this new citywide threat. Thus, why does the MC even find a need to emerge from hiding, to ask for help from the very people that may end up betraying them?

@Sophia your plot sounds really interesting! I love the title as well, and am definitely getting Fallen Hero vibes from the premise. I look forward to see how you’ll develop this story!

Mostly because they need the help of the group’s supernatural abilities and information/they’re the only people they know who might possibly hold any remaining good feeling towards them. Of course, there’s still player agency, but you do still care about these people, and they you.

Plus, they cultivate a near-constant paranoia in the work environment of the Syndicate. It’s not like anybody’s loyal to them, so the MC probably hopes that ‘all men for themselves, I’ll help you out’ wins out over ‘that’s my duty to turn you in.’ Reporting them would put the reporter in a tricky spot too. The situational equivalent of a gunfight standoff. To get those powers back on your team - high risk/high reward gamble.

But you’re right, it’s a real risky gambit that doesn’t make a lot of sense! I’m still working out the kinks, so I appreciate dumb stuff being pointed out, so I can reconsider! Happier to grab a plot hole earlier in the concept rather than later.

I have some time next week but I’m still indecisive about which of the two projects to work on. Both have their plot more or less done.

  1. The Wopuas: a tiny adventure, will involve gnomes and fairies and RO’s https://dashingdon.com/play/lisamarlin/the-wopua-a-tiny-adventure/mygame/
Plot 'Wopua'

You’ve probably never seen or even heard of the Wopua. Not many people have. And for those who do, no one believes them.

This is not surprising as they are very, very tiny creatures that are very necessary: or did you think trees grow all by themselves?

Forget everything you know about plants, animals and the forest. There are many more, mysterious forces at work here.

You are born into a Wopua community, living and working deep in the roots of a large tree. Everyone has their role to play, each making their own contribution to this carefully-balanced society.

Almost as soon as you’re born, you realise that you’re different. You’re not quite sure why, but almost as soon as you draw your first breath it’s clear that you don’t fit into the pre-set norms and structures.

As an outsider, how will you find you path and purpose in life? And how will you manage to fit in?

  1. Get out of here! Escape game, no RO’s
Plot 'Get out of here'

Your whole life you have been stuck in this camp, mining away at the coal. No one here knows a different life outside of the camp and everyone is content with the way things are. Well, not everyone… The camp is heavily guarded and there seems to be no way out.

But for what reason?

Who can you trust? How far will you go to escape?

Which are you more interested in?
  • Wopua
  • Get Out of Here!

I’ve begun working on my new game, and the Title has yet to be decided. In it, the main character (you) will be a human thrown inside a Mansion as the maid/butler of three vampires— one of which has been confined into their house for being a dangerous criminal.

It will be character driven, and it will focus on the relationship you’ll build with the three vampires while going on with the story.
The vampires are going to be gender customisable— either male or female, based on your preference.
All three of them are going to be a romance option, but I’ll probably make it so you will have to choose only one of them at some point in the story.

It’s still in its very first stages, I’ve only written the bones of the first chapter. I’m also terribly new to choices script. Before continuing, I wanted to see if anyone at all would be interested. Looking forward to your thoughts:)

I’ll always reserve my judgement until I actually see something, but if you can pull it off, I would be heavily interested in this story.

Hii guys…I have become an ardent fan COG games and have recently decided to start my own text based games…

But …I am suffering through the dilemma of choosing the game idea …whether it should be fantasy, historical, adventure…and how to convey those ideas in a form of interesting text based games…

I wanna know about experience of all the people …when they started to write their firstever COG WIP.

Start small, with something that can get you familiar with coding. Don’t aim for a publishable work straight away. If you do, there’s a high chance to get burned out before the end. Interactive games take a lot of work you don’t see on a single playthrough because of the choices made by the player along the way. Don’t worry about genre too much yet. By experimenting with small projects like this first you’ll have a much better grasp on what suits you by the time you get to your first big project.

If you’d like feedback on your practice projects, try posting them on the workshop thread.

(My first ever WiP was wiped from the Internet when Dropbox stopped being useable to host ChoiceScript, thankfully. It was over-ambitious in concept, and the writing was horrible.)

Contests or game jams are also great ways to gain experience. Don’t think there are any planned before the next Halloween, though.

Hey people lol I got this weird thing in my dream (more like a nightmare) a few days ago and trying (and struggling to make certain things work in an IF/ cyoa style, which is making my brain hurt
:joy_cat::smile_cat::smirk_cat:) to make it…

This will be titled Broken Worlds, a fantasy horror (with weird and dark humour)…

Plot

You (MC) have terminal cancer (the type of cancer will be the player’s choice) in last stage and doesn’t have much time left, a month at most.

Then a dangerous and evil cult kidnaps MC to use them in a ritual dun dun dun to release an ancient evil entity. You were selected cause your parent who abandoned you at birth (it was supposed to be MC’s mother, but thinking of making parent’s gender selectable) once being the leader/head (more like the Queen/ruler) of the cult who has more power than any human (mortal) but left the cult and ran away when your parent was pregnant carrying you.

You get super-powers cause of the failed ritual.

This world has many superpowereds that uses either biological powers/ abilities (superpowers) or supernatural powers/ abilities (magical abilities) (no one can use both except for you (MC)).

Important Characters

Ava(f) /Abe (m): Your closest childhood friend, who protects you with their own life and kills anyone to save you (not an RO, at least for now)

(Still figuring out parent route)

Nic (Nicolette) (f): (RO) A silent yet confident girl who meets you and falls in love but doesn’t knows 'bout your cancer.

Joker (Jake) (m): (RO) An underling cult member, has no confident, ironically gets scared very easily and covers it up with untimely jokes. Only cult member that treats you nicely.

Echo (███████) (m/f): (RO) A brooding Villain with (biological powers) sound amplifying, sound manipulating and turning sound into energy powers, wants to defeat two of the most powerful Heroes, the duo of sibling heroes Empress and Erode and show their worth to everyone.

Empress (Celeste de Vries) (f): (RO) Celeste along with her twin (younger) brother Erode protects the city and defeats Echo everytime. Loves spotlight and very charming. (Biological powers) Emotional manipulation, Communicate limited amount of birds and Command (limited).

Erode (Vespian de Vries) (m): (not an RO) Vespian along with his twin (older) sister Empress protects the city and (actually follows his sister) helps her defeat Echo. Hates attention on him, hates talking, loves his sister and more of a Vigilante than hero if not for his sister. Can degrade anything that’s not alive, can manipulate and communicate with dead (limited) and can produce an indestructible black shield (can’t use on himself unfortunately) (supernatural powers).

Features
  • Your gender is customisable.

  • Option to stay with your other parent or your Aunt (mother’s younger twin sister, this choice will impact the reputation even before you get the powers, infamous/ famous)

  • Get a supernatural pet (customisable) that can be a companion, a sidekick and help you keep your unstable supernatural powers in control.

  • Make weirdest damn experiments using both magic and science individually and/ or combining them.

  • Your biological powers will be according to the selected cancer type (still figuring it out).

  • You also gets extremely powerful and volatile supernatural powers (will be according to the selected evil entity, there will be seven evil entities you can choose from).

  • You can be both evil and good unlike the superpowereds in almost all the superpowered stories.

  • Can kill or control other powereds (including ROs).

  • Conquer and rule the cult (like your parent that abandoned you and the cult alike once did) or destroy the cult completely.

  • Find the past 'bout your parent and why they abandoned you (possibly find them alive
    :roll_eyes::smirk_cat::smiling_imp:).

  • Unleash the evil entity that gave you the powers and serve it or banish it or bind it to you forever.

Just give me your thoughts and suggestions…
