What kind of stories do you want to see for Choice of Games & Hosted Games?

It would depend on what changed, I suppose. Imagine what science would look like if we were all living under Eastern-bloc type restrictions on research and publication since the 70s.

Hence the ā€œnecessarilyā€. Although sociology is a science too. Hmm.

(And to think I originally was simply wondering whether or not my space opera would fit the bill.)

Now I’m wondering what one might call a story taking place in a future of an alt-history world. Alt-future?

Sounds good to me. Could be really fun to read.

Colossal story in a tang or joseon dynasty, i’m happy when there’s some people create it recently, but most of them doesn’t update anymore or rarely update their forums

Medieval with grounded combat and warfare. Or fantasy with makes sense power level and lore which backed those power/magic like lotr. Really hate fantasy which the story solution is brute force unexplainable magic power or deus ex machina coincidence story the way how harry potter done it.

I’ll echo this one. It’d be nice to have fantasy magic at a ā€œrealisticā€ level. Magic is too often ā€œGandalf at the top of his gameā€ and not enough ā€œI have just enough power to open this door right now. Give me a week to recover and maybe I can break into a vault.ā€

Huh, actually, I would like to see prison life style games. I don’t think there aren’t many games like this in here or in the other forums.:+1:t2:

Can you make a cultivation base martial art like in manhua?

I was just thinking that a historical romance set in Joseon Era Korea would be interesting to read. You would play as a noble. It would have court intrigue and maybe you have to choose between which prince to support in the succession struggle. I would love a gisaeng (courtesan) love interest.

I know this comment was from a while back, but I have a small sample of a game I’m going to be working on later down the road. It’s only about 20k words in total, but I’d love for you to take a look as someone who’s looking for more horror based stuff. Would be interested in hearing your thoughts on this very rough draft! https://forum.choiceofgames.com/t/golden-eyes-wip-the-bureau-horror-spin-off-project-20k-words/144834

Any story as long as there are strong, well-fleshed out characters.

I think i’m starting to be overwhelmed by all the fantasy wips out there. I really want a slice of life game set in the modern world. Hopefully, with a theme, like being an actor, a musician, or a webtoon artist. Or maybe the run a bookstore, cafe, or music store.

I want a game where, if the characters are in a profession/serious hobbyists in something where they might, predictably, need flashlights, they’d actually have the sense to carry flashlights instead of using their phones. Seriously.

Social Services of the Doomed gives you the option to carry a big, heavy flashlight around as your everyday carry for your civil mediation services. Handy in several ways!

I think I know what you mean, a future but not a teleporter/food replicator kind of future.

A Mass-Effect kind of future, where it’s the future but a future that’s just the what the present would be if science was a little more advanced than it is now.

@HarrisPS does a lot of slice-of-life IFs, and they’re quite good.

Intense enemies to lovers. I’ve never seen anything as hardcore as I would like. Like the one in The Cruel Prince. I know this IF called A Court of Serpents that is based on that novel, but it’s been a while since it last updated.

Oh well, there’s a reason why I’m making my own IF now.

Side stories based in game universes like mass effect, baldurs gate, horizon, the walking dead etc. Kinda did that already. Just more of it.

There are copyright issues preventing that.

It’s legal if you make something that sort of captures the spirit of the thing but is not the thing, like if you have this space adventure where you play the commander of a ship who tries to get all species to work together, and in the course of events has a few relationships with one or more of them, then you have Mass Effect in all but name.

There’s one IF like that, it’s pretty good.

Baldur’s Gate is effectively a hero’s journey game, a villain does something bad to the protag in the beginning, then the protag goes on a quest to find the villian, and the whole story is basically exploring and doing things and picking up and dropping people. Then they meet the villain and there’s a boss fight. Defeating the boss ends the game.

Walking Dead isn’t anything that special, it’s just people trying to protect themselves against something that turns people into zombies. The thing that makes it special is the same thing that makes anything special, they have characters that you can identify with and relate to.
