"Werewolf: The Apocalypse — The Book of Hungry Names"—Unleash Rage and wield spirit to heal the land and rebuild your fallen pack

Most paperback books don’t have a wordcount over double the Lord of the Rings trilogy, Hobbit, and Silmarillion combined.

Also, which series are you talking about?

Hi All –

Please remember to leave a review if you liked the game. Reviews, especially over the first weekend, can really make or break a game.

(There’s already a stupid review on GPS that’s making my blood boil.)

Thanks!

Congratulations to Kyle! Having played the demo this book looks fantastic, possibly one of his best. It’s been fun to see how he’s developed and grown as a writer.

With that said, it’s definitely sort of jarring to realize one’s been priced out of supporting a COG work, and I don’t think it’s all that fair to dismiss people expressing those feelings.

Kyle (and all writers, frankly) deserve to be well-compensated for their work, and the price point makes sense for a book written at the sheer size and scope of Werewolf. It’s massive, and any reader can and should recognize that and frankly commend Kyle for his talent and ability to write such a massive literary work at such a high quality.

But we are also paying for a game, and I’m sure that there are gamers who will compare this price point to works like Scarlet Hollow which is only $5 USD more expensive, or Stardew Valley which is $15 USD at full price, or Night Road which is $13 USD at full price, and I can see those players choose to spend their money on those instead. Especially those who live in other countries where $20 USD is a much bigger ask than here. I think at the end, whether or not this game is worth $15-20 depends a lot on whether or not an individual considers this a book, a game, or both.

For me personally, I balk at the price because of the addition of DLC. It becomes frustrating knowing that I’m being asked to pay (at full price) $20 for a story that has built-in, pre-planned DLC. Does the massive word count include the DLC? Or is it not including it? How many words does the DLC add? How much DLC is planned for this game? Regardless of DLC price (in this case being $1), it feels kind of weird to ask $20 for a game and then go “Oh, by the way, can you slide us an extra dollar for the full game?”

Does it give it a negative because “it’s only text, no graphics”? I used to see those on Steam a lot, and they made me think there should be some way to filter out reviews by people who’d lose an intelligence contest against your average cabbage.

Holy…14.99?! Idk if the prices for all choice games went up but that is A LOT especially when i do not know how much wording is in the book, and to top it off steam gets the dlc for free but on phone u don’t get it free which doesn’t make sense. And other choice games are like 4.99-7.99 so 14.99 is a little too much…I do hope the price gets wayyyy lower because jesus christ that’s a lot for a reading game…

Unfortunately, a 1 star rating gets factored into the public rating regardless of cabbages.

It is, which is why it’s a little weird that last year’s releases around 1.5mil, both of which were anticipated sequels by established authors, got priced substantially lower and without a drop of DLC. Guess PDX wants their money’s worth.

(TBC, I don’t think the price is unreasonable, it’s just pretty clear that theres a markup for CoG vs HG products, and again for licensed products. Night Road and Fallen Hero: Retribution are at the same price, despite FHR being twice as long)

I paid the 14.99 and .99 on Googles app. More than I expected, yep but Im good with it.

I am uncertain while in story, text keeps enlarging. Resized back down several times. Furthest I got is choice of moon type and had to resize about 4 times from large back to regular.

@jjc73 You should not be paying the $0.99 today. Send a receipt to support@choiceofgames.com and we’ll refund it. Send your webstore account as well (make one at Profile - Choice of Games LLC if you don’t already have one) so we can credit it to you there.

As for the resizing font issue, update to 1.1.3 or later of the standalone GPS app.

DLCs are extra content specifically for tribes and do have more than enough to deal with a .99 cent add.

So far that I know of. Liked the demo enough and its got a lot of alternatives, lots.

Not sure how to update or where exactly.

It’s not that COG is the markup. Our pricing is the same across labels, and it’s based on wordcount.

The markups are for internal art and for licensed games.

Fair enough. That’s more what I expected tbh.

HOW? It’s been out for less than half a day!

Because you don’t have to play the game all the way through to leave a review on GPS standalones. In fact, you don’t even have to buy it. If you download it–which doesn’t cost money, since it’s free to try–you’re entitled to leave a review.

In other words, “people suck?”

There are literal haters that just love to hate. Ive noticed this happens to a lot of inclusive titles regardless of never reading it. Could be cause of price, though. Some also target upfronted costs with a DLC content right out the gate.

Idk otherwise and its crazy.

I will rate it when I can. Still dealing with other things and at work.

Update must of stopped it that just landed in stores already.

The only thing thats weird so far is Im constantly being told I’m not 21, which just feels…weird? Like, werewolves live a while. But most of the cast is mid twenties from what I see, so, at least being lower 20s dosent seem like an issue with elder status. Just feels strange

I’m not talking about whether or not the content justified $0.99–I’m talking specifically about the idea of Day One DLC in a text-based game.

They’re “elders” because everyone older than them is dead. And they’re your elders because they’re literally older than you, if only by a couple years.
