The consort eventually dies, quietly, with little more than a footnote to mention it.
I wanted to say thanks very much for the changes made. I love that Choice of Games actually listen to complaints like the ones surrounding Tomas, and implement changes to rectify the issues, as opposed to getting defensive about it like some companies do. While I did interpret Tomas as rather sexless, I can see why others would have issues so it’s definitely a good clarification.
@FairyGodfeather You don’t have to be strongly gendered to desire sex. My interpretation of the original version was that sex had taken place, but that it had been left vague so as not to traumatize players. The game said Tomas was infertile, not impotent, he seemed to have an unhealthy fascination with the MC, he had turned you into his slave/toy, and you were newly married, so it was both logical and reasonable to think that sex followed.
Anyway, it’s been rewritten, so there’s no point in continuing to hash over it.
@R3dSt1ng While it isn’t possible to push magic up to a 99 without killing anyone, I’m fairly certain that you can get it up over 90 without killing anyone if you start out with it as your high score.
@P_Tigras I know. I’d just assumed different from you and Marajade. I do think that both interpretations were valid, although I’m also extremely glad that they clarified.
@p_Tigras You can, in fact you can get all 3 of 4 scores above 90 with the right play style. And the other isn’t far behind. At least so far as I’ve tried.
Hello, I’m new here. I’m really quite new to CoG, and this was the first game I played.
I loved the de Vega storyline, although I thought he was moving a bit fast after his wife died.
I’ve read most of this thread (my eyes were going funny trying to read it all); what’s this about a rape/assault? When I’ve played the game I’ve kept my character away from Tomas as much as I can (on one I managed to resist the mind control so it’s all good). I don’t know if I missed something or have forgotten…
Also, I really wished there could have been a part 2 of sorts if you ended up with Mendosa at the end of the first installment. It took me a little while to realise you *had* to end up with the King.
With regards to what people are saying about not killing people, how did you achieve that in the end, and how did it end? I remember when I played it, I had to kill the King because he was getting out of control. I think Juanita died as well, but I can’t remember. I haven’t explored all the options yet because I got so caught up in playing Heroes Rise.
And of course, when I finished Choice of Romance, I ended up marrying de Vega. I ended up really liking his character, I liked the sneaking about with him if you choose to have an affair.
The rape issue was patched out before you got here.
In short, Tomas de Reyes can mind-control you into marrying him, and in a previous iteration of the game, many players drew the obvious conclusion: that you were going to have sex with Tomas once he married you.
In addition, it was impossible to resist Tomas de Reyes’ touch regardless of your magical strength, and that rubbed a lot of players the wrong way.
As for not killing anyone: You can get through the entire series without murdering anyone. If you maintain a solid relationship with the Monarch, and you haven’t committed any crimes or done anything skeevy (note that this is kind of weirdly done; for example, even if the monarch is the one to order the Consort or Juanita killed, you’ll still be in the crosshairs), then the monarch won’t turn on you and you’ll live with them until they perish of natural causes. Note that if you do this, Juanita will take the throne, and you’ll be banished from Orovilla (but get an estate for your trouble).
Thanks for your reply. It was confusing me that there were mentions of it. I can imagine it being frustrating not having the option of resisting Tomas’ mind control.
And thanks again, I’m going to try that out when I next play it.
Aren’t there quite a few different endings with regards to Juanita? If you kill off the monarch, you have the option of killing Juanita or something? I’m a bit sketchy on the game as a whole, it’s been a little while since I played.
As far as I know you can only kill Juanita before you kill the monarch. If you kill the monarch and haven’t killed Juanita yet then its too late to get rid of her.
If you kill the monarch by coup d’etat, you have the option to have Juanita removed as a threat. This does nothing but affect the epilogue. Likewise if you kill the monarch by poison with Antonio as the declared heir; Juanita’s claim is not strong enough to push him off, and she can be disposed of at leisure.
If you kill the monarch by poison (or survive her reign’s natural ending), and Juanita is the declared heir, Juanita declares herself Queen. You can kill her by rebellion, but not by assassination. Likewise, if there is no clear successor (this means that Antonio was the heir, but was killed by assassins), you can contest Juanita’s claim by force of arms; again, if you win, she’s dead.
Better to leave Juanita alive for my perspective thou.
If Juanita is alive and was declared heir, nonetheless whether she was marrying Sahran prince or Aguilar eldest, she will become Queen Juana and will eventually take your first son as her successor later…
but I have a question to this ending, can we have this ending plus marrying either Vega or Mendosa without assaulting the King by poison?
I mean, every time I had an affair with either those two, my reputation sink down slump, rather fast, so the King would ended up killing me, burn me to be precise. And I have to poison the King to achieve this ending…
Yes he almost oblidges you to let you in i have to say him NO GO AWAY four times and he still trying enter in my room, and after that game ask you again if you want go bed with him and why, its really boring and make me angry.
Oh yeah I forgot the end bit where you can kill Juanita. Prolly cause most of the time I get killed or have to start over
And I too found it beyond annoying that no matter how much I told de Mendosa to go away he kept insisting to come into my room. And even after all that he still tries to get with you the next day.
We need an option to ask the Monarch to execute Mendosa for continually trying to get in the Consort’s pants. S/he was never nearly that much of a dumbass about it in the first game.
@Jemojaku: If you want to outlast the monarch without murdering them, you have to be completely squeaky-clean.
