The Royal Legacy (New Poll on post #1466) (Hiatus)

i loved how gota did the heir things :), i remember having a girl and a boy, in the end i named heir the girl cause she was good with a sword and Smart, very Smart…cant wait to see how you do it :smirk:

Or you could have a rushed relationship, because it’s purely for power gain and both you and your prospective spouse both know it. So it is a relationship, based on power not for romance :stuck_out_tongue:

hey arcania dont even know if you remember me but im back

if you dont remember me we met around this time last year you gave me your skype account but we lost contact after a few weeks because my internet was cut out

Also i love what you are doing with the story its amazing but since we have Thalia as a paragon can we have a choice to reject Sebastian as a paragon ? if not and he’s a vital part of the story then its all good i’ll love it all the same.

Hope your doing good man keep up the good work.

@anon4518890 I did my research on how that was done, smart, very smart. Hopefully I can do just as well, if not better  I actually think I’ll have the MC start out with two children and the last child will be born from a union of the MC’s choosing, else adopted.

The details still need crafting, but we’ll see.

@EmperorHeartless For relationships I’m considering how to go about that as well. If they are a big player, I’ll likely have the relationsihp more detailed. If it’s smaller, or the MC is just piling on partners (surely to end badly, but who knows) it’ll likely be rushed.

@darren_muir Ah, welcome back Darren It’s good to see you up and about  Oh as a side note, remember you can click the pencil icon to edit your post, located at the bottom of your post. To answer your question, sadly you can’t. He is very much an important piece to the story, and realistically, as he points out, you need him.

As a side note, paragons don’t play the role of bodyguard as they did before in earlier versions of the game. And I’m holding up :relieved:

Excuse the late reply, this heatwave really messes with a person :pensive:

I’d rather expect if our MC is trying to rule an empire that it is only logical that they have some manner of political marriage. If nothing else it is the very traditional way of gaining allies, and the attendant land, troops and money.

That’s the plan. At the very least marrying off the MC’s children. Sacrifice their personal feeling for the sake of the realm or do right by the bloodline and continue the legacy.

I hope this does not mean that the main character will have no choice other than to go through with it. The advisors can advocate it if they wish but the main character is supposed to be the king or queen and supposedly has the final say in such things. It is one thing to have no choice in which advisors to accept and no choice in which paragons to accept, but to have no choice in the matter of marriage for a king or queen of all things makes our character feel powerless in the most important matter. I would be more than willing to suffer the consequences of making that decision one way or the other myself.

Considering you don’t appear to be married at the start of the game. I would suggest it only make sense to use yourself to consolidate your rule even before any pre-existing children.

Far from it. Regardless of how much detail goes into interaction with said partner(s) of the MC, no one, but the MC decides who they marry, decide to have children with, adopt, raise, or otherwise marry off.

With that said, the MC’s decision could lead to a situation where they are forced into such a position. An example could be getting captured, poorly managing groups and relations that would have otherwise been capable of rescuing the MC, then awaiting rescue only for them to fail- granted the option for a marriage or death.

@chrisbat That’s true and right. I believe that to be the best course of action right now. Speaking of, an early marriage might even be a nice boost. Though in the long run… that’ll likely affect any future proposals from a more powerful figure. Ah, how the smallest decisions can affect the largest.

@Arcania Thank you for giving the main character the final say in the main character’s marriage. As long as the “or death” option remains, I am content. There are some issues on which my character would never surrender and that is one of them.

For the weekly budget allocation, I think it might be helpful to list in parentheses next to each item what social aspect is improved by that budget item. I find it hard to memorize exactly what affect each item will have.

It appears that the main character is given an epithet based on clothing worn to the coronation. I hope we get the option to instead adopt the epithet resulting from freeing the slave. I can’t think of one I’d be prouder to bear.

When the supplicant claims his family will starve before winter with current tax rates, none of the options allow actually verifying the truth of his claims. I would prefer an option to send tax assessors to investigate the claims with the authorization to adjust his tax rates accordingly. I have no desire to have my citizens starve to death for numerous reasons but I would not adjust tax rates without an impartial assessment in favor of such.

I must say I am particularly looking forward to the apostate route.

This is true, I suppose it depends on the options which become available both immediately and later as to what is the wisest course of action. Of course if you hold out long enough what with being sent naked bathing attendants, you can always father a brood of children to marry off. It worked for the Hapsburghs.

@Norilinde You are the crowned ruler, it would be a shame on me not to have the MC have the final say in everything, especially when it comes to marriage. I think I’ll make an achievement in honor of that statement, “never surrender”.

Actually, that just might be possible to work out without all the info being squeezed together. (Budget)

The MC’s first title comes from how they choose to present themselves. There are many other titles the MC can gain, what they go by, I think I’ll give the MC the ability to visit Artemis to have her agent spread word of “discovered monikers”. (A show of which the mc favors). Liberator/Subjugator sound like fun ones to use.

Rolo supported his point that taxes were high. The farmer being there implied he was struggling. True, he could have been attempting to get off easy, but that’s why I’ll be adding a chance for the MC to visit the city to see how things are for themselves. True it would be wiser to look into it more, verifying his financial records could take awhile and the people await a decision. Versus punishing him if he’s telling a lie or dealing with the consequences.

As am I, it should be quite a bit of fun.

@chrisbat Having a brood of children is one thing. Being able to marry them all off is the troublesome bit.

Edit: Add on to the decision part. Your advisers might not have a final say in what happens, but I’m sure your partner will have something to say about it… or will they (a couple of winks to you drama lovers here )

could we get a little more from our past when you are asked about your past and you get the options of Soldier, Apostate, Fosterling, Inquisitor, Merchant can we get something that comes with the backstory’s like lets say if i pick merchant can i start off with i little bit more money if i choose soldier maybe i could start with my army getting a slight boost in morale since they know a soldier is in charge and not a diplomat and if i choose ringleader when the slaver comes for an audience he will instantly know who you are because he knows of your past exploits in being a smart and ruthless leader of mercenaries and cutthroats well you get where im going with this im just wondering if out backstory can give us a little boost in the future ?

also why did you remove the backstory of ringleader that seemed like the best one

This may have been said already, but will there be a chance to create a family motto? Not to borrow from Game of Thrones too much here, but I do know, especially older dynasties, would pass down a key sentence or phrase to successors. It could add a bit more backstory to the family and give others an expectation for Behavior.

i love this idea

and/or if we cant have a family motto maybe something like a family sword past down to each through the ages or a family signet ring or something like that

This also may have been covered, but can we start an annual fair or competition? Durring this time, a town or city (our capital city) with a fair had a huge boost to tax revenue, interaction with hundreds of new Merchants, soldiers, and an arms competition brough in talented knights that you could stea…recruit from other lords.

I know the idea of a colosseum for gladiators was thrown around, but this way your paragon could fight others, gain experience, win glory to your name, and you could sneak in a registration fee :smiling_imp:
One of the only real downsides is increased crime with so many more people.

Thank you. As funny as it is, I had a short scene run through my mind after reading that post.
" Well done my son, you have proven yourself a worthy heir and can now inherit the family lion."

  • picks up and hands over a fully grown lion who then proceeds to maul a servant*
    “Thank you my liege”

Marriage or death… That sounds… I don’t know how to describe it… Anyway a brood of children… Is they’re artificial growth for them? Like speeding up the pregnancy/growth or growing them in a dish?

I need soldiers and chips.

@darren_muir The MC’s background choice is one of the largest decisions you make in the game. For replayability sake and all. In other words, it comes up and affects things quite a lot through the game.

For the boost bit, notice the bolded text when picking a background, that’s the main stat affected when choosing. Merchant already gets a boost in monet, soldier with army, ringleader doesn’t exist- otherwise it would have made sense to involve it with slavery.

At the time, there’s a more detailed post above discussing the change from ringleader to fosterling, I can link it to you if you want.

Keep the prologue in mind. The family sword and signet ring is sometihng the MC starts with. You didn’t… lose it… did you?

@Vman That actually sounds like a pretty nice idea. I know the idea of a family crest came up a few times, every time I start working on it something else comes up and it vanishes… but a family motto, I’d rather it wasn’t static so if it’s added the MC won’t be able to create their own, but choose a preset one. That way it can have an actual affect on the game.

I’ll be completely ready to listen to suggestions on family mottos (preferably unique ones and specifically not from GoT)

@Vman The Colosseum would have definitely taken sometime to work out. It’s coming down to have an arena.tournament vs a fair. That actually doesn’t sound like such a bad theme to add to the MC’s coronation…

@Dark_Stalker Shame Imortallia isn’t that advance >.>
