it may just be me but when i start the game and i see the backstory’s the soldiers “Leadership” isnt in bold i know its only a small thing but it looks weird being the only one thats not bold
Motto’s huh…
“If you must pay with blood let it be the blood of your enemies.”
“Honor can be regained life cannot.”
“It is better that your people be pleased than angered and obedient even moreso than both.”
The best wars are won before the first battle."
I might think of more later.
I found some family mottos on this website.

Early apologies, it seems the update may be delayed.
- Thanks to insight from discussions since last update there are some things to be added that’ll take some time.
- As well as there’s a deity game (still in the idea stage) that needs some work.
- Other occupying… factors.
As for the current discussion:
A motto for Honor, Bravery, Strength, Wealth, Cunning or otherwise relating to an attribute seems fitting enough.
@faewkless Thank you, simpler tends to get the job done. I especially like the first couple.
@Vman Old euro house calls I take it, I’ll investigated more deeply, thanks!
Deity game… Praise be the browny god.
Edit: Add on to the decision part. Your advisers might not have a final say in what happens, but I’m sure your partner will have something to say about it… or will they (a couple of winks to you drama lovers here
)
I would hope that my partner-to-be would have a say in it. While it is not one that I would enjoy earning, I suppose being rejected by a potential spouse also could be an achievement.
@Dark_Stalker It’s based off a true story → If you consider my dreams to be a true story Sooner it’s out of my head the better aye
@Norilinde Just as important as uniting the realm, is getting a proper heir to inherit. It’ll be doubtful your spouse whoever it may be would be willing to simply sit in the shadows as if their job was done.
That sounds like a fun achievement to have especially a series of rejections. Just how desperate would the situation get I wonder o.o
Rolo supported his point that taxes were high. The farmer being there implied he was struggling. True, he could have been attempting to get off easy, but that’s why I’ll be adding a chance for the MC to visit the city to see how things are for themselves. True it would be wiser to look into it more, verifying his financial records could take awhile and the people await a decision. Versus punishing him if he’s telling a lie or dealing with the consequences.
I think my concern is not so much that taxes are high, but whether or not my citizens can afford the current level of taxation. I would certainly hope that Rolo would be qualified to evaluate whether taxes are high, but he cannot know whether the supplicant can actually afford that level of taxation. The country is in such desperate need of funds that I would be willing to consider implementing high taxes for the duration of the current emergency. Whether my citizens would be willing to tolerate that level of taxation is a different matter but must be weighed against their tolerance of a country in disrepair.
Just as important as uniting the realm, is getting a proper heir to inherit. It’ll be doubtful your spouse whoever it may be would be willing to simply sit in the shadows as if their job was done.
As Elizabeth I of England and Queen Anne demonstrated, the succession can be secured without offspring of their own if needed, and that succession can be more successful than passing everything to offspring as Charles VI on behalf of Maria Theresa could attest. A ruler might therefore choose to neutralize likely threats to the designated heir while still alive. After all, if a war over the succession is likely anyway, it probably could be fought on more favorable terms by the recognized ruler than an unrecognized heir.
Excuse the late response, it’s strange how my replies don’t go through o.o my phone simply doesn’t like the forums I suppose.
@Norilinde Generally we would say, on the matter of taxes, that the farmer is a representation/representative of the general populace. Though if anything, I would refer to the stability level in the nation. Nothing that things are… reasonably stable and not shattering from overtaxation… yet. I would say you’re in the safezone. Though to reassure the new ruler, how would you suggest that be done?
I’ve considered the idea of adding the option to postpone the tax decision, but doing so wouldn’t help much as tax collection is right around the corner and there’s a bit too much to be done to call a second audience (after the report), and declare the changes in time for tax collection.
As for the succession bit. I’d planned for the MC to either have an heir with their spouse and if that’s not an option simply adopt (otherwise legitimize a bastard child), regardless being acceptable. But ignoring the actual heir factor and simply declaring a successer regardless of whom it might be… I like it, I think the planned drama level just got an extra dose. (Who will be the heir to the throne of Imortallia? Let the subterfuge begin)
Family/Clan/House Motto’s are still being welcomed before the code vault is sealed and set
Edit: A request to a benevolent ruler with time on their hands! If you could see and let me know, what’s the most amount of money you can end up by the end of the demo, do let me know. (merchant background + stinginess + debt)
@Arcania Tax and census records seem to me the best way to reassure the ruler. I presume the country keeps tax records and census records that are updated from time to time. I would like a clerk to bring the tax and census records out of storage to the farmer’s hearing. I am aware they may not be up-to-date, but a 5 minute conversation seems rushed to me for deciding whether to change an entire country’s income by 50% or more. The records could include such things as: size of household, location of property, things produced, rough amount of each type produced, amount of tax assessed, amount of tax paid in amount X of currency and amount Y of produce which is worth amount Z of currency.
It would also be more meaningful if the farmer were not there just to represent himself but all of his neighbors on whose behalf he had been chosen to speak. He could bring sworn statements by the neighbors verifying the particulars of his story. Recognizing that country farmers might not be literate, they could have paid a scribe or cleric to write their accounts and add his or her own signature confirming that the accounts are true to the best of his or her knowledge. One of my clerks can verify that the statements exist and all tell approximately the same story.
Sworn statements by the heads of various guilds (I presume there is a Merchants Guild for example) describing the conditions caused by taxation could indicate how much wealth citizens need after taxes to survive. I also presume the heads of guilds would probably be located in the capital so could be summoned to testify at the hearing.
I realize this potentially makes for a longer hearing, but if my citizens want short and entertaining royal hearings as opposed to carefully considered and just hearings, then they are in for disappointment.
So simple, yet so clear. I doubt the guildmasters would miss this event. I believe it would be worthwhile to summon the guild masters and hear their accounts.
This actually sounds like an opportune time for a merchant background, ruler to have some insight on the matter when reviewing the finance reports.
Is it strange that when I play TRL and the dressing scene comes up, I simply can’t for the life of me, decide what to wear to my own coronation ~.~
Even as emperor I’m indecisive when it comes to myself >.<
Isn’t it clear that your suppose to wear mostly white with black accents, then publicly behead some people to dye it.
- The paragon de pargun, undeclared at this time, guards as sleep.
Shouldn’t you put a “them” or some gender nuetral word here? I know it changes later but it looks too weird to ignore.
- Serenity’s profile: Honor and loyalty has been deeply ingrained into her. She…
Need a space before she.
I almost liked Thalia until I saw her perception of me… Actually everyone’s perception angers me except Artemis’ and Serenity’s…
You’d think Serenity wouldn’t consider me blind to warfare as a soldier or inquisitor.
Becomes an apostate, welcoming the taint… still 100% pure. ;>
- Each of your advisors pass down a report sheet with the words summary at the top.
Isn’t summary one word…
Why does the game start with an 1^9 debt?
I’m told I have inherited 7000 crowns but I had only 4000 to spend.
I don’t appreciate that lord of the north achievement…
All the non final choices for paragon Sebastian lead to the info pages, it’s redundant.
Why is the slavery choice irreversible? It seems like you should be able to change it with enough crowns.
I hadn’t thought of someone looking at it before the information was set. I’ll get to it.
Will do
I wouldn’t put too much faith in the perceptions, as they aren’t quite updated… and their based on first impressions >.> I mean… you are kinda late to your own coronation.
Still shows 100% purity even with an apostate background hmm. I would justify that as a, the MC hasn’t delved into the taint officially yet but that wouldn’t very much make much sense given the background. I’ll have that fixed. Speaking of, I noticed stats barely shifted in that scene. Things are going to get a bit more… drastic.
Summary one word? Yes, yes it is
Father + Failed Econ class + debt = inheritance.
Hmm… doing some quick medieval CSI here… Did you happen to meet any strange looking fellows seeking “shelter for the night” on your way to the city? You didn’t happen to throw crowns out at anyone chasing you would you? If neither is the case… o.o
Oh? Don’t like the north do you?
I’ll review the redundancy with Sebastian’s scene and see about fixing that asap.
Update: Could you actually send a screenshot of the repetition or explain that more? I don’t seem to be seeing it.
Once your nation dawns an age of slavery, you will have the masters. They won’t be so willing to give up their slaves, as well as the traders who won’t be so keen to lose profit. The attention that will call for will be overwhelming as is. Then there’s dealing with the whole dominate the known world thing and defend your borders as well as other affairs.
- Or think of it like this. You now have thousands if not hundreds of thousands of slaves in your nation. Suddenly you abolish it and you have not only multiple factions turning against you internally, but you now have an economic issue to readjust. Vice versa you declare slavery isn’t allowed, then decide to start having slaves… the effects that results become an issue.
Or simply put… the code it would take to change from slavery to non slavery or otherwise and how it’ll affect the story would be on a painfully epic scale.
This is kind of out of the blue, but the title of Emperor/Empress, King/Queen and parts of what @Knightstrike and @maj12 mentioned on culture (at least of what’s been displayed so far)
I’ve been considering implementing a unique culture of sorts. Though unique isn’t the right word here. Rather than having a more European touch on things, as it currently seems, a more… open touch is needed.
With that said, rather than the gender specific title, a more gender neutral and unique title for a ruler is needed. With much thinking, reviewing, researching and the likes I’ve boiled things down to… Kaseer, Vear, Vicar, Mo’er, or Archon. I’m leaning mostly to the last one currently. Let me know if anyone has some input on the matter or can talk me out of it.
Edit: On a completely irrelevant note. If someone is familiar with Japanese history, mythology, culture - I would appreciate a pm to discuss it.
Archon has sort of religious connotations. Same as Vicar.
Unless you plan for a theocracy or a head of the state with strong ties to a church, I suggest for you to consider the others instead.
I could help you if you will give me ideas of what kind of nations/kingdoms you want to have.
Europe is a large continent, just to remind you. Hahahahah…
For example, do you want something French-inspired? German-inspired? Etcetera…
I could also help you with the Japanese, but you will have to tell me specifically what you want.
Out of those options I like Archon the best. But that’s probably because I think it sounds the best when said aloud.
But if you want more options…
High -enter noun here-
Grand -enter noun here-
Great -enter noun here-
Over -enter noun here-
I think you get it. It’s actually quite easy to make a gender neutral made up King/Queen equivalent. But you could tell me I’m the Great Pickle, the Over Bunny, the Grand High Brownie Thief, etc and I’d just accept it. I’m easy like that. Other people… Generally not so much. Lol.
Could I marriage people then killed all his heirs and then kill husband to obtaining their men and fortune… Just marriage and still married is boring and no very Mara.
I don’t really have anything to screenshot it with me right now. It was the scene where they Sebastian wants to be your paragon and you can have him explain what a paragon is or test him by throwing Thalia at him. But every choice that doesn’t end the scene goes to asking him for information including, the aforementioned sicking Thalia at him.
Lack of a proper update relationship doesn’t excuse it, they’re all getting force fed wasabi and horseradish for a month.
I would never throw crowns at random people, maybe peasants but not someone trying to kill me!
@Knightstrike To my understanding and knowledge, Archon is originally a term for both a civil and religious leader. Vicar does come from religious connotations. I actually didn’t have much of Europe in mind when I was scratching out the game.
As for matters of Japan the matter is very general.
@Monk65 Archon is really beginning to grow on me. I’ll really note these suggestions in mind, though…
the Grand High Brownie Thief
Blasphemy!
@poison_mara Why marry them in the first place? Couldn’t you have simply disposed him or otherwise assassinate him? Although… what’s stopping him from trying the same thing on you? That just gave me an idea o.o A couple trying to assassinate each other on a daily basis…
@Dark_Stalker I’ll look into that, how strange o.o
I think I’ve boiled things down to either Archon or Achoni.
Why? Because if not marriage not heritage XD marriages are justified because creating alliance and political and military. And if no heirs you could get other part possessions.
