Either that or they are just trying to kill you with spices, or not…But maybe…
Thanks all, for the kind words, likes, and comments. I’m encouraged to steam ahead with this next section–currently working on additional material before the Poisonous Intent chapter. (Most likely–although we shall see how it goes–with Janie, Phil, and Edie!)
@Shockbolt That’s most likely due to the Rascal’s personality…
@Noctis You are correct on the middle point, but the other two don’t directly affect the Rascal’s relationship with Phil.
@moonwalkerdragon Thank you! I have a fun time writing him. He’s hilarious. He’s also the oldest of the Watchers by a few decades, even though he is relatively new to Earth, so his perspective is interesting to think about!
@Jinx_the_Atomic_Cat I was going to go with shale and dry dust, but an alpha tester dissuaded me…besides, I suppose only archaeologist/geologist readers would had have any idea what that’s like.
I’m open to suggestions, if you or anyone else has any!
@BK64 You must mean Phil; she’s the veggie of the alien crowd. (:0
All: I adjusted the stats slightly, as @Eiwynn mentioned --both what they do, and how they’re integrated with the game. What do you all think, do you like the tweaks and changes? (Or are they very noticeable?)
Hello @Fiogan
I really enjoyed playing a monster hunting spy type.
I like sal I always enjoy fellow suave folk .
It makes getting brutally beaten by that squid (Everytime) worth it.
(Also Clive sounds adorable)
Question: is Anthony in any of the last scenes, the ones after the squid that is?
@faewkless I’m so sorry! I hate it when that happens to me like those ten times I lost the final battle in @Lucid’s Lost Heir II for instance…. I’ve been working on balancing the squid fight, and I need to maybe do some more work. Or add a teddy-bear style option, which I was considering anyway.
(And thank you! I think Clivey is adorable too. If the story was set in our era, he’d have bought every bit of memorabilia from Downton Abbey…he wears Union Jack pyjamas. So much fun, hehe.)
Everyone–I’d be interested in hearing who has won or lost that squid battle, if you don’t mind sharing! I’d like it to be a bit half and half, at least on a first play-through, if possible.
@moonwalkerdragon Oh yes! I’ve yet to write the entire winter, which will be centred around either Anthony, Reggie, Edie, Sarah, or possibly Janie or Phil, depending on the Rascal’s path (and how much time and branching I can manage). But he remains key to the plot till the end, I’m happy to say.
This PJ’s reference is so lost on me, care to elaborate for the unenlightened?
PS: keep up the excellent work!
PPS: 40k in 11 day omfg! You go girl!
PPPS: It never rains in the UK, it is just liquid sunshine! XD
Delighted! Flag nightshirts, basically! Flag tea cosies, traditional biscuits–Clivey is deeply enamoured of his temporary home. He’s the ‘more British than the British’ type, or he tries to be.
This was absolutely super. Very British, very charming and very funny.
I haven’t actually found any path apart from Edie and Sarah with another character which I can’t remember, looks like it’s time for detective Moon.W.Dragon to search for the path
Even when you rescue your belongings and clothes (the scene even mentions you getting dressed properly) we’re apparently back to just our dressing gown in the next chapter.
Otherwise, yeah, I agree with most of the others around here, keep up the good work.
@Zanite Thank you! I’m so glad you’ve had fun with my silly little electropunk world. (:
@moonwalkerdragon Sorry–I’d meant partly the Rascal’s overall goals (Do you want to stay with the Watch? Flee to the continent and eat oranges all day? Run off and join the Family?) and partly the Rascal’s relationships. Edie’s and Sarah’s romantic scenes are probably a bit more obvious than Reggie’s and Anthony’s for now, because I haven’t written the second scene with the latter two yet. But I shall!
@idonotlikeusernames Ach, good catch! I fixed that in one scene but not the second. (I even have a variable for it.) I will sort it out for the next update; thank you. Also thanks much for the kind words–I’m very pleased you like it thus far!
I do, the Robot is my fave so far.
Ah ok, so you either have the Sarah ending or the Edie ending. That makes sense now .
Oh, I honestly just guessed xD I didn’t pay too much attention to what decisions raised or lowered her stats; just that I had a real high rating with her o.o
I think I made it obvious I won xD With a harpoon no less :o I haven’t replayed it yet but to me the scene was more about what your Rascal would do than the obvious choice. By the way, is there a way to allow Eddie to finish her spell for the sake of seeing what it does or is the only way to win is winning single-handedly (for the most part)?
@idonotlikeusernames Yay! I had a grand time writing it, because it finds humanity so very odd and puzzling. Also I love its monotone voice.
@moonwalkerdragon Sort of? I’m hoping it’ll be a bit more complex than that, but I’ll have to see how it pans out when I get to that point!
@Noctis Yes on all counts!
The solutions are definitely keyed to your stats. Having obvious choices for a Rascal fighting seemed counter-intuitive!
Also yes, you can win the fight by just avoiding the squid for two ‘turns’. And Edie finishes her spell, and whammo. She’s not really asking you to take it down, just distract it long enough for her to finish a rather long (very long) spell.
I’m pleased to say that the fight counts marks against the Rascal, Edie, and the Squid–I’d feel disingenuous calling it a points system, but it does track blows and their severity. All one has to do to win is stall the Squid and stay out of the way for long enough–although the Rascal gets kudos for winning from the others later (Phil, for instance), if that’s important to your MC.
Step 1 in my master plan to make Phil love me: beat all monsters. Gotcha.
First time commenting on this piece and holy smokes is this a good one. I had no idea I would enjoy it as much as I did. I usually don’t play the rogue type character but I have to say you good sir/ma’am make me love being a charming devil of a Rascal. I enjoy the characters you created and how we get to play our Rascal in different ways. I also very much liked that our gender and name weren’t chosen until later. It gave us the chance to build our character and see how others react to us not based on gender but our personality. Also if I’m being honest I enjoy the path we get from losing against the flaming land octopus a little more than the winning outcome. Though I’m being biased as I do enjoy Sarah’s character a lot. I’ve never known I liked my woman scaly until now. I can’t wait to see where this goes. Keep up the excellent work and consider your fan count increased by one.
@Zsero is a woman of my heart… “devil of a Rascal” is perfect descriptor for the character I love too… and I enjoy the defeatist path as well better than the winning path.
I have a feeling we will get along famously.
I finally found the way to lose to the squid :o It took my longer than I’m willing to admit to discovering this tid bit. I Harpoon’ed it, daggered it, and froze it (next I’m going to to drown it >:D), but I couldn’t lose to it Dx Then I realized oh hey, let’s drop the discretion and charge it xD I have to say, I have to agree with Zsero, the losing path is a bit more full filling than the winning path but I’m sad there was no Anthony and I’m still three coins in debt :c But hey more friends with more interesting characters
