@Sneaks I would prefer to romance Benny the Goblin instead of playing as a goblin.
@Sneaks They are pretty cool, but I like vampires and werewolves more. Plus, I donât think I could pull off a goblin character
Personally I like the demons more ⌠nothing like some manipulation and charm to get what you want
Hmm, vampires are too popular, I may have to vote for something elseâŚ
Thatâs such a hipster thing to say.
But there is a reason why Vampires are so popularâŚthough Iâm not sure if itâs just because they are so well known? But in that case werewolfs would be more popular as they are now I guess?
Well for me itâs Wendigo - Vampire - Werewolf - Goblin - Demon.
You know, now I think I like goblins even less.
Werewolves are cool tooâŚ(howls sadly)
I had much internal conflict over whether I love Wendigo or Vampire better.
Then I realized that even as a powerful Wendigo, I still need a job.
For me, I love playing as a vampire the most. Demon follows at a close second, then wendigo, then werewolf, and finally goblin. Itâs not that I dislike goblins, I just canât relate to them at all. Iâve always liked vampires so I usually default to them if given the choice, although I also like the choices given to the vampire MC in this game immensely.
Vampire is my favourite and then itâs a close second of either wendigo or cubi.
More precisely, goblins ARE magic. Unlike other species, who have to consume and expend energy to perform their abilities, fae are their own source of power. The glamour spell goblins wear every day is taught to them as children, and comes naturally to them.
There are other minor spells and charms known to goblins, but theyâre some of the most technically-minded fae. They tend not to use magic for frivolous purposes, or to change the laws of nature. Their relatives (who will be visiting for Homecoming) donât have the same restraint.
Interesting question! I actually hadnât thought about that; I should at least give the vampire a default servant. Victoriaâs not going to be opening her own door for visitors.
Hm, I should change that.
EDIT: Ha, @AAO beat me to it. I added /GQ to her gender description.
@Sashira Another quick vampire inquiry: are they emotionally stunted in any way? With a vampire MC/Victoriaâs motherâs death having been fairly recent (being partially the MC/Victoriaâs own fault), they both seem sort of indifferent to it.
They also seem to have come into their vampiric own rather quickly, is it natural once turned, or did they have a mentor of some sort?
This characteristic is often given to vampires to explain how they could feed/hunt from humans, as well as outliving those they care about.
I literally yelped when I saw this. I blame you @Sashira. Now my neighbors and everyone else within a 4 mile radius knows how obsessed I am with this game.
That was the intent behind making Victoria withdrawn, and making even popular vampire MCs keep their distance from the other students. Victoria I think will work - if the MC can get through her defenses, they can start to see the emotions sheâs been keeping to herself. Vampiric MCs need some revision; rather than keeping it unspoken, I should give them more chances to reflect on their loss, like the wendigo with their issues.
Someone who is going to be turned into a vampire is carefully prepared beforehand. Victoria or the vampire MC would have seen their mother feed, had their potential abilities explained to them, and known long in advance what their new life would be like. Their servant was also familiar with the needs of vampires and was around to help them adjust.
Itâs true that being raised by a vampire gives someone a more pragmatic outlook on life and death. But they do have emotions similar to humans, especially younger ones.
Annnd I just found my spiritual identical twin. Seems like weâre going for the same kind of playthroughs.
The gameâs fun to play as always, but there are a few criticisms I have to make.
@Sashira, I hate to bring up the issue of racelocking yet again, but itâs honestly a complete dealbreaker for me, and it gets more irritating every time I play through. I believe you said that since the Wendigo myth was specifically Native American, it made sense to make the Wendigo character a Native American.
But you havenât applied this standard consistently to the other monsters. The succ/incubus is specific to Judeo-Christian theology (which involves some geographic constraints), but it isnât racelocked to Western Europe and the Middle East. There are vampires in Asian folklore, if âVampire: The Masqueradeâ is any indication, but all the names available for the vampire come from Eastern/Western Europe. There are goblins in Hindu theology, but the available names for the goblins are (I think) Welsh.
So again, whatâs with all the racelocking??? I donât find it racially offensive, but itâs an extremely annoying constraint in character creation.
Secondly, letâs talk about the incubus. I mentioned earlier that the incubus didnât have to be an Impossibly Beautiful Edward Cullen expy. This is only partially because Iâd prefer to play an edgy, hideous demon. My understanding is that incubi, like other demons, are often driven by hatred of humanity, not necessarily by lust alone(see âParadise Lostâ). But in the section where the incubus has to state how they feel about their partners, all the options are some variant on âI really, really like sex.â Why isnât there an option to play an incubus with a personality similar to a human serial killerâcraving sex but hating those who engage in it? Or why isnât it possible to play an incubus who dislikes sex, but enjoys the process of degrading humans?
Third, unless Iâm looking at the wrong version of the game, I notice that âIsseiâ and "Sagawaâ (from the Japanese cannibal murderer Issei Sagawa) are still Wendigo naming options. That seems rather disrespectful of the dead.
Finallyâand this is more a comment on the way this thread has been progressingâare we seriously arguing about the offensiveness of the term âsapiosexualâ? Weâre creating art here, not making a political statement. And before anyone tells me that art has political value, I would like to point out that art has historically had the political impact of a wet paper bag.
The cubus is a specific kind of demon that is said to be extremely attractive and suduses humans to steal their souls. So in cubus cannot hate sex because that is how they feed.
