This will be a amazing game , I prefer shifters, I always play rpg like rogue or assasin. I love be a bad girl :ar! The mark its a snake so it will be a chance of use poison or other subterfugies? It will be usefull to take the power. Shift the personality of somebody in the court , open mm … Maquiavelian possibilities. I want play this game and hope I can be bad and selfish, not the boring typical good silly hero
@wolfwriter20
Can some provinces produce more (not entirely just most of the time) individuals with a certain mark than others and therefore the province is reflected on that?
For example: one province may produce more people with the mark Alizabet and therefore the province is more technologically advanced than the others. Another province could produce more people with the mark of Valdiir so it is a military province that makes the best warriors. Also a province that produces more people with the mark of Jin-Yaan may be a farming province or a province that contains the most unsettled land due to the elementals ties to nature.
If this is not what you have in mind what kind of backstory do you plan to give the world our character will be a part of?
@MaraJade The snake is more an allegory for the ‘trickery’ aspect of Shifters, I don’t think they would really have poison powers. But I imagine that they have an incredible intelligence, especially if I choose to make it that they retain things they have learned even after they shift back to their normal form. But then that begs the question of how much can a mind take before it breaks? Can the player absorb a limitless amount of information, or does it have a limit? Having a limit would be more challenging to write but would create a certain level of challenge in the role of a shifter. Hmm something to think about.
Oh, and you by no means have to be a goody two-shoes, being selfish and wicked is definitely an available path.
@Massgamer, Okay, I see what you are saying. I think that could work quite well, especially if I go with the idea I have that the lesser gods–whose mark you bear–were once the rulers of the provinces before Taluud united them all into Kalimuun. That way, like you said, even though Descendents from different lines will come from the same province, there would be one type that is statistically more likely to come from said province. I think that would work quite well, especially when the provinces begin to secede from the Empire in your characters present time.
@wolfwriter
Does everyone in the game bare a mark if not what is the ratio of marked and unmarked people?
Also do you plan to have factions in the game and if there are will there be an unmarked faction who don’t want an empowered ruler?
They will be destroyed.
@MaraJade :L “typical good silly hero” uh?. You looking for trouble, cause heros aren’t above holding grudges.
* Mara uses her shifter powers to transform in chuck norris and send Claudian to moon* Never figh with someone who can shift to Chuck Norris
Chuck Norris ain’t got sh*t on Cole McGrath, the electric man! (Uses Powers of Cole McGrath to kick MaraJade’s (who is disguised as chuck Norris) ass)
@MaraJade That would be true except for theres only one real Chuck Norris and thats Chuck Norris, no one can copy him (and his third fist(located in his beard) ), So ha!
Chuck Norris ass is unafected by electricity its like earth type pokemon And touch my avatar its no good idea subdermal poison, like poison ivy * Mara shift in Umma thurman and kiss Cole* :*
And blink to Cloudian, good silly heros dont fight ladies.
@MaraJade
Justice is never sexist!
@Cloudian and @Headhunter180
You have my support against this common enemy of good!
Mara start to cry poison tears, nobody loves little Mara =(( turn around and see she is the only vilain, now seriusly, I love bad caracters because usually are more cunning and interesting than hero, luke v darth Vader, Harry potter v Snape or Voldemort. And love using cunning strateguies Moriarty style
@MaraJade I’ll back you up. Playing as the hero all the time can get boring to me.
Actually it is @Massgamer some heros never hurt ladies, but there are some that do, its all about personal code of ethics. I myself follow the code of Chivalry, which doesn’t have anything to do with sexist.
@MaraJade there are cunning heros! Batman for one, hes the worlds greatest detective. The difference is deviousness, villians have it while heros(usally) dont.
Well you got the point with Batman, I love the mitical 60 tv and Tim burtons. But I dont see him like typical modern hero or movie hero so plain than paviment. Its a tragic hero, similar Sherlock Holmes or ancient greek heros with weakness and bad moments. I love Jason and Ulises for instance they are cunning clever and sometimes selfish human and complex. No sugar emo heroes or incredibles killing machines without brains or worse the antihero bad use in action movies. In other hand, a good choice game have to be something similar to a bad or selfish path to be credible for me and garanty at lest to separate paths in a story ( or maybe i love the dark side too much ) Post scriptum; sorry for wall of text
For one to be able to shift into Chuck Norris, one must first touch Chuck Norris…I wish you the best of luck with that
Oh, and @massgamer current mythos (i.e. my notes) has it at around every one in a million children is born with supernatural powers. They have a population comparable to that of Earth.
How much (If any) will your mark have on your players mentality and/or the way they are treated by other empowerds
also I’ll probably go with shifter the first time through they seem like kind of the underdog
Well, I don’t think the mark itself has an effect on player mentality, but some of your past certainly does. I try to leave most personality defining choices to the player, however, so as not to make it feel like they are railroaded into a certain type of character.
It is something that has proved challenging so far, even in the introductory chapter that I have written.
And I think the Shifter is really cool. I can see how you might think they are the underdog, but they really aren’t. Did you ever read the Animorphs books? Once you absorb an identity, it is a part of you…and you can change into it again at a moments notice. The higher level you are, the more identities you can absorb, and the more powerful of creatures you can shift into.
At least Im not alone!! I think powers shouldnt decide karma, but probably the way players mentality. A shifter cant be a pure force berseker, dont have direct powers for that, so they have to use cunning and sneak. I like your psicologic character development and the way society see the powers of each mark. Its almost like table rpg, So 817819 welcome to dark side pd: ( My apologies for my horrible english
@MaraJade Your English is fine, I think I understand what you are saying. The power you have will not affect whether you are good or bad, but what you choose to do with said power will begin to reflect on you, and as the story progresses people will respond to you based on if you choose to protect the innocent or exploit them for your own gain.
I’m really hoping that with the powers, it will be diverse enough to make for compelling re-plays. Like you said, you cant just go through blasting everything as a Shifter, you have to play it a little smarter than just being a beserker. It will take more time and a lot more writing, but in the end it should be totally worth it.
The demo will be up on Tuesday, November 13th and will include the introduction/Chapter 1 and a part of Chapter 2.
