Also, I was wondering if we could have the option to use the medicinal salve from the herbalist to help out Aevar and his dragon and/or the injured blue from the race?
@SeventhJackel. Thank you Yeah I skipped a small section I was having trouble with and kept writing. Then decided how I wanted the missing section to be written and wrote that later so it ended up being a fairly large update this time.
So, colour personalities. Yes and no. Well yes and yes to a point but the way your stats work are already flavoring the text, especially in the later sections and will probably impact the text more but the specific colour will also sneak in there from time to time as well. What dragon you start with will have natural inclinations for their stat levels so unless you change them, they’ll have a tendancy to act in a particular way.
It’s also going to affect your racing style since if you try to handle the course in a way that needs high agility but yours is low, it’ll come out differently than if you had a high stat.
So as an example since a black dragon starts with a much higher aggression stat, unless you’ve worked hard to reduce it, their behaviour is going to come off as being a bit more snarky, opportunistic or aggressive in places. (Or the opposite if the aggression stats are low. Smaller dragons like greens will start off the lowest). I probably will also use some colour referencing/flavour text here and there on its own though as well.
Her color also could have come up a few times such as when Aevar was complaining about his rivals black dragon.
Just wondering how so? (Are you talking he should assume Sary with be similar to the rival’s black dragon if she is also that colour? Or something different? Was just wondering what your thoughts are on that )
@RanchoJoe Probably not. (It’s a no at the moment anyway). His dragon was badly injured and is already being treated properly. Applying an extra “first aid” type salve isn’t likely to have a great enough effect to get him racing by the following day.
I’ll think about whether I’ll put in an option to give it to him to speed up the healing (and increase good will). That might work?
Thanks for all the feedback everyone! Appreciate it.
I think the wonky stats that were pointed out should be fixed now (There were some extra zeros involved, sorry about that!)
Honestly my first reaction was to feel a little defensive since Aevar seemed predisposed against my dragons color, but I think her high aggression and general willfulness means it is something my mc is concerned about. And self doubt tends to lead to being defensive so I guess that explains that.
I’m contemplating putting some chapter headings in. This is obviously a very rough sketch, just wanted to see what it would look like. If I can get it to look good enough, and the chapters don’t start to get muddled towards the end, I might add them
Will we meet our parents?
My MC has so much bragging to do.
Love this concept - I think the dragon and header together fits perfectly. Well done.
Thanks @Zolataya
@faewkless I was thinking I might like to do that but haven’t quite worked out how to put it into the story without it seeming forced or cheesy. Hopefully I can work out a way to give you an option to visit them/invite them to visit.
The family meeting could be for the winter solstice or whatever big festival people do in your world. MC could be like “I’ll take care of cooking the meat ;)”
laughs Yep that could work
Quick question: how old is the character meant to be exactly?
@moonwalkerdragon Sorry not sure I understand the question?[quote=“moonwalkerdragon, post:91, topic:14263, full:true”]

Sorry, Auto correct is going hey-wire
No problems, I love the auto correct that pops up on my phone sometimes.
Currently it’s set as 17 years at the start of the book. (Which is what it was in its original incarnation as a short gamebook). I’m thinking about bumping the age upwards a couple of years though.
I know I said “No more dragon types” but I’m considering adding one more. I’ll have to see how much of a pain it’s going to be to work it in coding wise, (I’m starting to worry I’m going end up with difficult to manage stats). Does anyone have a particular “want” for a wyvern to be added as an option? Do you think it’ll add something to the game or not really. Not garanteeing anything yet, just fishing for opinions at the moment
General species summary:
Wyverns
Although referred to as “dragons” wyverns are actually “close cousins”, being genetically distinct enough to be their own species. At a glance, the largest difference is the lack of forelimbs. Instead wyverns use their wings to walk, and have clawed fingers at the wing joint to function in a limited way as hands if necessary. Wyverns are pale pearlescent in appearance: white with an oil like shimmer to their scales and wings.
Additionally wyverns tend to be finer in stature: being long and lean with larger wings, rather than muscular and stocky. This lends them unparalleled agility and decent speed, but they are definitely the weakest members of the dragon community.
Another unique fact about wyverns is their tendency to hide their eggs in the nests of other dragons to raise. Of course if none are available, they will incubate the nests themselves, however they are not nearly as diligent parents. Because of this, they will only lay small clutches of one or two eggs at a time, making wyverns comparatively rare. The hatchlings are able to fly soon after hatching, leaving the nest before the “foster parents” can hopefully notice the switch. The young dragons will usually seek the company of others of their kind while growing and it is not unusual to see small flocks flying together for company and safety.
Wyverns are generally hardy, intelligent and independent. They are not welcomed by most wild dragons and will usually be chased away if they venture too close to an occupied lair. Bonded dragons tend to be far more tolerant than their untamed counterparts and will sometimes even befriend them; but some still hold to old prejudices, and will look down on their two legged cousins.
Wyverns are accepted into races, but are not seen as a traditionally “prestigious” species, causing them to be uncommonly trained for this purpose.
If you do decide to add a Wyvern - then I’d suggest making it a “Pearl” color… fits nicely with your descriptor. If you decide on a dragon, I’d love a Titanium or Composite dragon to represent a “modern” variant of dragon.
But I understand that the code grows like vines everywhere - so I’d be o.k. if you stick with what was.
I would love a wyvern in the story just because I’ve gotten hooked on a mythical beast story at the moment and its set in a wyvern kingdom soooo…
And if you do a Dragon can you do a multi coloured black and white one just to make things interesting .
I like your take on wyverns. That would be a fun play through, however having to write a unique reaction every time you meet someone new would be a good deal more work for you the author. I hope you let us meet a wyvern rider whether you decide to give us the opportunity or not.
From the way you word or, it sounds like there’s potential for a confrontation should the MC’s dragon ever meets a wyvern. I have a feeling you wouldn’t mention something like this without reason, so is it possible there’s gonna be a non-MC wyvern rider down the line?
@Zolataya- Ok pearl sounds simpler. Haha more dragons in all sorts of metalic colours->you’re right the code is going to start growing like vines.
@moonwalkerdragon Thanks for the feedback. I’m trying to avoid the same colour popping up more than once or complicated colours as it’ll create confusion when calling races in particular. Hmm I’ll think about it
@SeventhJackel and @RagEgnite It was one of my thoughts for something to happen a bit later in the story. I was wondering if people might get annoyed if there were wyvern riders about but if I didn’t make it a possible option for the mc?
Thanks all for the feedback I’ll take a look at the coding and see how hard it’ll be to add something like this in or not.
