@Quoc_Anh Thank you! I’ll try to get an update up soon. (Been a busy week unfortunately).
@LadyRavanna Thank you for all the feedback, I appreciate it
Some of the stuff you’ve mentioned about dragon colours I had been thinking about. The short answer is the limited colours are there to help minimize the difficulty in getting stat checks to balance (and ending up with lots of bugs if they start getting too complicated) is why there’s only 3 dragon colours at the moment (to fit in with 3 main physical stats). I haven’t completely ruled out more dragon colours. If it looks like adding more to the storyline, I might go back and add more at a later time. (I have had a few requests for it).
I’ll admit to a “Pern-esque” influence over why the subtypes of dragons have different physical characteristics. At the moment I’m probably going to leave that be, especially since there are references to colours and traits scattered through the story that I’d have to find and change if I revamped that. Again, not ruling it out, but adding more dragon colours with different traits would be the more likely (and the easier to implement) option.
I do really like the idea you had about the physical characteristics affecting their base personality/interactions though! I might see if I can work in some personality stats for the dragons as well. You will get some opportunity to alter your dragon’s stats regardless of colour through interactions and training as the story goes along.
Yeah only female. There’s a few things I’m considering doing with that (yes including eggs, you’re getting ahead of me lol). but I haven’t entirely decided yet. The focus is the races (and I have a rough idea of pretty much where I want that part of the story to go I think) but did have a few other possible sidelines in there. Keeping my options open at this stage
I’ve written another two smaller sections, (I think it’s about 6-7000 words from memory) but it needs proof reading and bug checking still. Haven’t finished all the fixes that were on my “to do” list from the previous update. (Have been pretty busy lately). Will try hard (but no promises as it depends on what happens with my free time) to get one up within the next few days if I can.
Just as an aside, for anyone following this, are small updates annoying? Would you prefer less frequent larger multi-chapter updates? Or are smaller more frequent updates ok?
Might take me a little bit to finish coding them in, but I am going to add in an aggression stat for the dragons so as such I’ll probably add in black dragons since I have another stat to play with and make adding another colour in worthwhile
No probs, then in answer to your question, unless I get more time over the next few days than I’m anticipating (which is possible, I may or may not have some extra time depending on something), next update might be another 1-2 weeks away by the time I’ve updated everything on my todo list
It is against forum rules to ask about updates. It applies unnecessary pressure on the author to push their updates forward. Rushed updates can contain many mistakes and errors, these things need time. Also, saying that a small update is ‘annoying’ is rather inappropriate and rude. Better to keep that kind of opinion to yourself.
It’s ok, Although AnonymousIII did ask when the next update was coming out (which as Nathan said is technically against the rules) I was happy to answer as I was wondering whether anyone following this thread would like smaller or larger updates which would relate to what I was releasing and when, so in this case Anon was just answering my question
Okay, so not a super large update but since I’m looking pretty flat out for the next week thought I’d update what I have. (As usual, you might need to clear your cookies or open the link in a private window to get the new files to show up.)
I’ve added another scene (it ends with the start of a training session as I haven’t finished all the options for this yet). It’s now about 50,000 words all up.
I haven’t finished all the edits I need to do (described in the last update post). What I have done is:
Italics for thought communications.
Removed italics that say when stats are changing. (Although I have decided to leave in the italics that tell you if you’ve gained an item).
(If anyone finds any of the above two I’ve missed could you please let me know? Thanks )
Set a stat for dragon aggression.
You can choose to want to look for any colour you like at the start.
Added in a black dragon as an option.
Fixed stats for first training session.
Fixed Jayna’s bar on the stats page.
Hi All,
Reasonably large update, I’ve added about 25,000 words bringing it up to around 75,000 in total. It’ll finish at the end of the chromatic (beginners) race for now.
I’ve been writing/coding for much of today and I think my brains gone into meltdown mode. I’ve read it over a few times but I’m still picking up grammar issues and stuff that needs a bit of rewording. Sorry if I’ve (probably) missed more. (I’ll have to come back to it when my head is clearer).
I’ve also added a brief character summary list accessible via the stats page. People wont show up there until after you’ve met them, so if it looks kind of empty, check back later
Since I figured I should write stuff down while I don’t have writers block, I haven’t finished all the fixes in the previous post. I will come back to it though and make the changes. (Haven’t forgotten)
Really appreciate any/all feedback. Thanks guys!
(As always, the link is in the first post :). It’s also best to open the story in a private window to cancel out any cache issues)
Failing to successfully fight back against the Dark Stanger reduced my MC’s health to 0% but the game kept on going
Edit: Letting Aevar choose where to go in the city bumped his relationship stat to 110%, which is a bit much for someone the MC known for all of 5 minutes
Oh wow, crazy stats. Thanks for finding that @RanchoJoe, looks like I’ve probably added some zeros to single digit stat changes I think at a guess. Will go over the code and find the bugs
Wow you’ve added a lot since the last time I played.
@RanchoJoe already pointed out the problem with the relationship bar for Aevar, but I noticed it started at 60% when we first met. Already my highest relationship at that point.
Also I was curious if you plan to give Sary different personalities or racing styles for the different color options. I picture a more sarcastic relationship with my black dragon. Her color also could have come up a few times such as when Aevar was complaining about his rivals black dragon.
Altogether I enjoyed what you have so far. Keep up the good work.
