Choice of Rebels Part 1 WIP thread

But summoner 2 is a game that was for ps2 I believe … Then again it didn’t like the first one.

I really love how this game is turning out and I can’t wait for the next update!

Just a question, and I apologize if this has already been asked, but were the Forgotten Gods worshiped only in Whendery, or did this religion have a presence in Shayard?

Thanks, @mistylavenda! It hadn’t been asked. The Forgotten Gods are just a Whendish thing. The Shayardenes were Xthonos-worshippers even before the Karagond conquest, but their version of the religion had a rather different flavor.

Apologies to everyone for how long it’s taking me to produce the next update… latest excuse is being involved in a car accident in Ethiopia. Thank God, everyone’s going to recover and the police let us go after 4 days with relatively limited attempts at bribe solicitation. But it ate another weekend that I was planning to spend on writing Rebels. :frowning:

@Havenstone I dunno. What was the description again?

@ghostface22 I played both Summoner and Summoner 2 (Summoner 1 was for PS2 and PC, Summoner 2 for PS2 and Gamecube). Summoner was darker and more immersive (my fave bit ‘ad to be wanderin’ through Lenele at night or sneakin’ as Flece in the Tower of Eleh), and I prefer it ta 2, despite the odd graphics, occasionally weird voice actin’ and stupid summon mechanics.
2 was… well, it had everything Summoner lacked, but it lost the darkness and realism in exchange for something more spiritual - some bits (like the Perduellion or the final battle) scared me more than anything, though, but I never connected with it the way that I had 1. I love them dearly, the both of 'em. Lovely music, too. Diamonds in the rough, those games.

Well, here’s from the jongler prologue: “The Halassurq Empire had a tumultuous relationship, at best, with your Karagond masters; the two great powers were at war more often than not, and it was well known that their religion was a blasphemy against Almighty Xthonos. Sharing tales from the eastern continent smacked of treason in a way that the songs of other Karagond provinces never would.” That, plus they have Theurgy, is about all you know.

@Havenstone
Thankyou kindly.
Nnn… Sounds close to Halassar, what with a different religion - worshippin’ the benevolent mother goddess Laharah (who in Medevan religion is the backstabbin’ hateful sister’a Urath, their main god). Orenia worships the dragons, I think, and the Munari are polytheistic, though Halassar seems to think they only worship one god.
But I digress.
Dark magic (Nhuvasarim (kinda like necromancy/blood magic), and east, well, Halassar did have more of an Indian-desert thing going on then Medeva or Orenia (in its defense Orenia was more like China). I don’t remember much of its relationship with the other countries, (haven’t played the games myself in years), though I remember that it implies throughout the game that even though it’s small as compared to the other kingdoms it’s pretty powerful.

EDIT: I remember that Medeva also had that Tome of Nhuvasarim an’ the people that practiced it, but that was more of a cult - Hallassar was the one that used to have a monarchy and aristocracy (?) practicing it.

Well, the Halassurqs do also worship the divine feminine… but overall I think it’ll be different enough to escape plagiarism accusations.

half paganism systems are divine feminity based due they need tons of babies and they are certain women has to be in the process, for them magic and mysterious.

@Havenstone Hope you’re okay. Next time you need an excuse not to write your game try something a little less dramatic, will you?

All good, thanks. And I’ll do my best. Usually the overseas trips are good for my writing…

Very good game ! I like the aspect where organize attacks !

Thanks, @supermegafly90! I’m finally getting some dedicated time on game-writing. Hope to have a comprehensive update soon for Chs1-2 (including the tax collector raids).

Excellent! Looking forward to the update

The rebels who will be remembered with you in legend include:

  • Breden Reaper, charismatic and eloquent helot
  • Elery Skinner, brilliant helot tactician
  • Zvad of Whendward, outlaw and ex-mercenary
  • Suzane de Firiac, passionate and idealistic noble

Those who have died for the cause include: - Radmar Millstone, physically powerful and short-tempered helot

HELOTS:
Most of your fellow helots are afraid that your rebellion will only make life harder for them. Almost none believe that you will actually liberate them.

ARISTOCRATS:
The aristocracy hold you in contempt as a helot upstart.

PRIESTS:
The priests of Xthonos dislike you for your impious offenses against the Imperial religion.

MERCHANTS:
While most merchants think your rebellion is bad for business, a few of them see opportunities in working with you.

My anarchy is so low - I guess I have too many scruples?

Yeah, 2 is just about as low as you can go and still actually qualify as a rebel. Congratulations!

XD

Error in stats screen. Went intellect route. “line 18: Non-existent variable ‘wisard’”

Oh wow haha, I usually end up pretty successful and get a pretty low anarchy - around 5 - but with 2, it doesn’t seem like anyone likes your cause :stuck_out_tongue:

I say Mr @Havenstein sir, I was sitting here, avariciously (and shamelessly so) eying this thread, and I thought “Hold up, he said a while back he’d start work after his missus got settled… And now he’s back to writing again…” - So, have we a new plan of estimates for updates and suchlike?

@Smeet, that should be fixed. Let me know if you get it again.

@Drazen, yes, I’m back to work now. I don’t usually find self-imposed deadlines to be very useful (ie I don’t keep them)… but just so you all have a stick to beat me with, let’s say sometime in the next week for the Chs 1-2 update, end of Jan for Ch 3, and end March for Ch 4 and the beta of the game.
