Where are the other Choose your own adventure games?

Hey all, I just found a great new CYOS (choose your own story) website! It is called the Never Ending Tale and is user submitted, but there are also pro editors. You can even go and add a few pages yourself. This web is exciting and contains a wide variety of topics/themes; you’re sure to find something you love. The link is: http://www.coder.com/creations/tale/ Happy adventuring!

These comments sure go back, don’t they?
Anyone know if Alter Ego was made using the same basics as ChoiceScript? I want to know if it’s possible to do icons like that in CS, and make it go to another scene after a certain number of icons were clicked, etc. etc. etc.

No, it was prior to CS. It’s actually a port of a game from the mid 80s.

@therealtree how do i use the site? i went there and i got really confused.

@QondasDyablo It seems complicated at first, but as you get to know it it becomes simple. First read the front page, then “You have one page left!” Link, and then find a link to the Stacks, which is the CYOS part. Or you don’t have to read any of it; just go straight to the stacks. I read it all but found it didn’t make much difference. Once you are at the stacks, click on a tale, enter it, and start reading/playing! Feel free to post if you have any more questions.

“Don’t take it personally, babe” was the only visual novel where I wanted to be cruel to my admirer. Arianna is an annoying, entitled, manipulative brat, and I hated seeing my character getting instantly interested in her.

Are any of these games available on Kindle Paperwhite?

@Hildigard Amazon is moving away from publishing games for the e-ink Kindles. If you want to game they want you to buy a kindle fire instead. (Which is backlit, and so not great for reading, and there may be better tablets out there.)

If you want your kindle for playing games on, and bought your kindle extremely recently, I’d see about getting it returned and getting a Kindle Fire. (Assuming you don’t have issues with the backlight.)

Great one about a guy who runs away from home & you guide him as he braves the streets of LA…

I wouldn’t have even noticed if you hadn’t linked to that.

Someone in the comments section mentioned that the story was plagiarized from over here:

I don’t know if anyone has mentioned this yet, but Alter Ego is actually by Dan Fabulich.

EDIT: Nevermind xD I thought it was.

@Samuel_H_Young Alter Ego isn’t by Dan Fabulich, it’s by Peter J. Favaro. Dan got permission to code up the web and app versions.

I suspect that Choice of Games came into existence because of Alter Ego.

Yeah I realized that. Well I’m glad that happened.

There are lots of new CYOA stories at http://dendritestories.co.nz/ - written by users collaboratively, so some of them are pretty crazy (but cool).

Oh man…there was this really cool one where you played an emperor well , his.apprentice.

Thing…and you play for about two gundred yeats of.actually playable.time, the game tries to say its like a thousand but not really. The branching options while a. Little boxy and with the feel.of forcing you down certain paths…like those fun but. Annoying books this genre is based off of are fun, althouhh thw “you die if you choose c or.g instead of.p” annoys…anyways, anyone have am idea? Its a choose your own adventure game…as in from.that website.

Boy, do I wish Dan had rewritten it to make possible to be gay, but then again that would have required making a almost a different game entirely, as it says in the Alter Ego Faq.

Can anyone tell me what game it was where you played an emperors apprentice and could eventually one way or another take over the empire yourself…about a thousand year timespan on CYOA.

Going to hazard a guess that you’re talking about my story Eternal.
