I just played a mobile choice game. It’s mostly linear and the MC is well defined, but the characters and plot are interesting.

The game is Red Spider: Vengeance on Google Play or Apple apps. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=air.org.rpgdl.wasp.RedSpiderLilyforAndroid.en

Warning: the game is not for children and has sensitive topics.

I found an article about a company doing something similar to choice of games a few months ago.
http://www.themarysue.com/oms-games-story-games-and-narrative/ and just remembered it a few minutes ago and figured maybe others would be curious.

The company’s https://onemorestorygames.com/ and they’ve a post on their blog linking to a discussion on Diversity in Games. https://onemorestorygames.com/2016/03/14/wp-diversity-in-games/ (Which I’ve admittedly not listened to.)

I haven’t actually played the games, I had a poke at them but they didn’t quite seem my thing, and the price for the software to make the games seemed really prohibitive to me. Although that was a few months ago and things might have changed.

There’s a contest at chooseyourstory.com for the best school based chooseyourstory game that ends June 20th and first prize is a $25 gift card. That’ll probably result in more IF games.

As far as choose your own adventure games go this is about as expansive as they come. I would say it is more story than game, but it has 13 different epilogue endings. Many branching paths that are completely different from eachothers. it is crazy long. (and fortunately has a go back a page button as every choice that doesn’t branch into its own path or continue a path kills you.)

Regarding Eternal. Doesn’t your character default as a straight guy? I started to play that game but my character ended up raping someone(?) and that’s when I put it down.

In the comments someone said that a fellow named Cygnus was gay, but I assume he’s not a romance?

Yes the main character is a straight guy. There aren’t really romance choices the way there are in COG games. I recommend it for the narrative alone brutal and twisted it is quite good, the struggle path is the only one where you rape anyone I think, and stuff like that is meant to illustrate the horrible psychological damage that has been done to your character (if you are talking about the fight with mistress, otherwise I never got that… the story is definitely a midfield and you’ll be best friends with the go back a page button, but at the same time the choices that do matter are a lot more branching than most cogs.

You never rape anyone actually.

There is one bad ending where you go nuts and try to rape and kill one of the svelk mercs working for you, but you never actually do so and she kills you first.

Now there is a bit where Mistress technically rapes you since at one point she magically disguises herself as your other love interest at the time and you end up having sex. But then the Eternal and Mistress have a severely dysfunctional relationship.

EDIT: Actually I’ve gone back and reread the bit that I was thinking of and you don’t even do a rape attempt at all. You just try to kill her. Its just before you completely go off you were having a sexual relationship with her.

NOT that you’re lacking suggestions (!) but Tin Man Games also has a new subscription series (you get about ten minutes of play per week for months and months, ending up with a MASSIVE story - the first month is free).

The first story is Choices: And The Sun Went Out (itunes or android) which is about ten months in, finishing in December, and the second will begin release in the next month or so (I know, because I’m writing it). Further shenanigans are in the works at this very moment.

Of course, there’s always loads of delicious new material in the IF Comp, plus you can always just meander through ifdb.tads.org .

hmm not sure about advertising/mentioning other sites, as not done it before. But google zombie high, bit different to COG but definatley worth a read. the company who published it have others too, but they’re kinda a one trick pony in my opinion :p. (sorry if that wasn’t ok, as said unsure)

Zombie High is Delight Games? You’re certainly allowed to link to their games on this thread.

What do you mean by one trick pony though?

ok, cheers wasn’t sure and yes it is. Well loved zombie high as had some really appealing features like only being able to play as female and has that plot twist later on. but not too keen on any of their other games, except detectives choice 1, that wasn’t too bad.

I haven’t played their games. I might own a few. I was watching their video on their site.

Really disliked delight games. No real choice, as one option is death and the other continues the story, or some are just stupid (one of them had a point system, in which making correct choices increased points).

On the playthrough where you wake up in the future and create a new empire and you get into the svelk city with the help of mistress creating a portal for you to join her there is a option to rape mistress daughter while she encourage you to do it

Ah yes, thanks for reminding me. I was only remembering the potential dead end during the normal path line since it’s usually the one that’s brought up. I’d forgotten about the future one. I write so much sometimes that even I forget all the little details I put into the story.

There are quite a few platforms for interactive fiction other than CoG - try searching for Inkle, Undum, or Twine games. Fallen London is a classic, of course. Recently I’ve been quite into Abigail Corfman’s works - you should try out her “16 Ways to Kill a Vampire in McDonalds”, or “Open Sorcery.”

I humbly present Victoriana, my own
steampunk Choose Your Own Adventure game.

It is set in the year 1888, featuring many curious contraptions such as the Pegasus Steamcycle and Telephonic Tea-Kettle.

Victoriana has been downloaded by over 11,000 Android users, and I have just finished the iOS version.
