"Werewolves 3: Evolution's End"—The ultimate battle of humans vs. werewolves!

Finished this a while back and gotta say i love it. Gonna say tho, not enough Maker shenanigans
Maker best girl!

I agree with all of this but, at the same time, I can’t help but get a sense of “been there done that”
When we are forced to escape from Maker’s lab in chapter 3, I was actually really looking forward to having to help guide the pack through the wider world and maybe interact with regular people and see what they make of werewolves.

But, only a chapter later, we’re back to an isolated location from which we will inevitably have to escape whenever the government or HSM decides to attack us as they are wont to do.
That will make it the third time this has happened.

That’s fair, and some more interactions with regular people definitely would have been interesting. Maybe we’ll see some of that in Book 4?

As it is, I kind of saw the “here we go again” aspect of things as a pretty realistic depiction of life on the run, while it’s the chance to explore new dimensions of lore and build relationships with other characters that keeps the story fresh for me.

I totally understand your feelings after hearing you explain them. I hope you still enjoyed the book in other ways?

For what it’s worth, book 4 is intended to be all about reversing the trend of running and going on the offensive–both in the integrating with normal humans aspect (Ahote’s outreach) and taking on the government openly (Sonoma/Onyx’s ‘outreach’.)

Werewolves is one of my favorite CoGs, so I’ve already played this a couple of times already.

The characters were really enjoyable and it was nice to interact with more members of Sonoma’s pack. Especially Winter since she had essentially graduated to a main cast member by the end.

And then I found out why.

She’s a hidden RO available for straight male MCs. I say “hidden” since this game was advertised as having 5 ROs, she doesn’t have an affection meter, and she’ll only be interested in you if you’re single in Book 3.

I was not expecting that. At all. It’s always nice when a game surprises me like this.

I thought Winter was more of a fling than a true RO? I’d definitely love to see her as full RO though - she’s pretty cool.

I took a look at code after playing through the game and Winter (MAJOR SPOILERS) has a relationship flag. The code reveals a lot more, too: The MC can end up impregnating her.

Oh wow! Good to know!

I don’t understand why either, but this is the case for almost every 3+ game series I can think of so it’s not a thing that’s unique to Werewolves. It just seems to be How It Works.

Unrelated, as awful as she is I was sorta hoping for an ending where you run off to be mad scientists with Maker.

Agreed though there appears to be something being set up for book 4 if you took Maker injected. On a somewhat related note I know that it won’t be coming out for a while but in 4 will there still be a option to carry out Sonoma (trying to turn humans into Werewolves even if kills most of them and turns the world into a Social Darwinism hellhole like in most chaos endings in SMT except with werewolves killing the weak humans instead of demons. Maybe with an option for a player who was injected to try to continue Maker experiments making things even worse) or Williams plans (trying to “cure” all werewolves even if it kills most of them, could also be a nice paraller with Williams if the player ro/closet friend are one of those who die) in their place with them no longer having power or being dead. Bad endings are more interesting if they are a result of the player’s actions rather then a failed check and a extreme mc should be able to take the “nuclear” options

this is my second playthrough, and i enjoyed it. never really would’ve guessed maker’s secret, i always felt she was sort of suspicious, but i thought she just wanted to take sonoma’s place as packleader. i did like the bits and pieces of foreshadowing before the big reveal and thought it was brilliantly done.

i’m on a quest to do the different branches now, but that said. i have a question: if i chose to take williams’ side in book 2, do you get more opportunities to bond with him in book 3? during my first playthrough, i stubbornly refused to take his side and he only appeared during the confrontation with maker before leaving. i was sad that there was no opportunity to bond with him further, so i was wondering if this changes depending on the sides you picked during the second book?

Tbh I’m kinda disappointed that if you end 2 going with maker to her facility it plays up this whole mystery/conspiracy thing and rhen in 3 its like

“Nah Sonoma was actually in the basement the whole time and she’s in charge again. Mysterious sect of wolves at Maker’s beck and call? No they won’t be mentioned again.”

You can supposedly sleep with sonoma twice.

Can you romance Maker or Sonoma? They seemed to be the most interesting character out of everyone.

you can have a fling/sleep with sonoma in book 2, i believe. not sure if this is continued in book 3. maker’s not a full fledged ro, but [spoilers] your mc has a bond with her. [/spoilers] i also read a comment where the author’s said she has some intimate scenes with the player, though i’ll have to check on that with the proper source to confirm.

Yes, of course. The prose is, as always, detailed and enjoyable to read. I enjoyed deepening the relationships with the different packmembers. And I particularly appreciated how exploring the Nail led to both rewarding content and alternatives during the final battle. I am looking forward to Book 4

I suppose, my other main “complaint” would be that I wished Williams had featured more. Given his connection to the main character and the fact he was such a long-standing villain, I was disappoint that; at least during my first playthrough; he only showed up in the Prologue and Chapter 12. Even the final battle with him felt underwhelming compared to the epicness of Book 1. Lapu and Maker’s chemicals seemed to have done most of the work.

On the other hand, the final battle with Maker was a highpoint. A very good and unique take on your classical vampire vs werewolf showdown. I enjoyed the contrast between her spiderlike creepiness and the player’s bestial wolf.

Happy to surprise you, heh. That whole section was completely unplanned, but just sprung from me one day wondering how some members of a dying society might react to what they view as an extinction event. Some might rage, some might despair, some might hope, some would make more werewolves!

Keep her alive and side with her in book 3 and then see what I have planned for book 4 *innocent whistling

If half the ‘bad’ endings I have planned for book 4 are as epic as they sound in my head, you’ll have a hell of a time. I fully intend on making mass extinction, murder, or forced evolution possible. Since Sonoma, Maker, and Williams can be alive or dead at the end of book 3, who you let survive and who you kill will drastically change the possible endings.

Only in the HSM prologue which has a fairly lengthy scene where the MC has a discussion with him (and/or a fight with him)

I planned on a bit more, but Maker kept taking up all the space in my head. If you keep Williams alive in book 3, I’m planning on having him show up more often in #4.

Someone has to make the MC pay for what they did to Maker at the end of book 3 (or be the last remaining cards Maker has in-hand after losing the Nail and her facility if she’s still alive.) Honestly, I wanted to use them more in book 3, but I had a bad case of ‘too many antagonists,’ and stuffing them all together would have felt silly. Now that the HSM is toast, I have room to let the story breathe.

You can sleep with Sonoma in books 2 and 3. It’s not a full romance really, because she’s on permanent ‘it’s complicated’ mode with Onyx. Also, you can sleep with Onyx. It’s complicated.

I genuinely didn’t know where else to fit him in other than where he already is. Maker was definitely the main antagonist of Werewolves 3 and Williams was more of a foil against her than a foe of the MC. I don’t know if it came off this way during your playthrough with your choices, but Williams genuinely wants to help and save the MC. When he’s in his right mind he won’t hurt them, or at least he won’t do anything he considers ‘hurting.’ Choosing to keep him alive in the end will lead to more dad/MC time in the next one.

I was so, so happy with how that fight turned out. It’s rare that I’m able to get exactly what I see in my head to come off in text form, but that one just flew from my brain to the page like magic!

Silly question, but how did you feel about the scene before that where Williams first shows up in the Nail? It’s one of my favorite scenes.

You said pregnancy. Can other ROs get pregnant too? I noticed 1 and 2 has so many branches a testament to your writing so I wanna ask caused I seem to always play the same route no matter what I do.

I was so happy to get back into this world. This was just as entertaining as the previous ones. And all the routes you can go down? I’m going to be overloaded with saves … again.

Questions about ROs:

Is Onyx the only other new fling for a female MC? I did the threesome thing with Inferi, which was a pleasant surprise.

I don’t play male MCs, so that was pretty cool learning what could happen with Winter.

Also, could you maybe, pretty please give us a hint if anything is going to happen with Maker if you go her route? I promise I’ll give you a virtual basket of cookies. :cookie: Lol. This is the second time (I think) my MC noticed her wearing perfume, and the little bits of affection she shows just makes my MC want to run away with her.

Anyway, very fun story. I just adore this colorful cast of characters and the different ways you can play your MC. Looking forward to the next addition :grinning:

I just finished it and got the Pacifist achievement. I chose Jolon as my lover, got close to Elder Ahote for charisma, and had Dena as a BFF. I’m glad to say it was worth the wait.

It was interesting to see the conflict between Sonoma and Maker and how the pack felt about it.

I have showed interest in Onyx considering how Sonoma treats him. I felt so bad for him after encountering his confession towards her. I like Kotori too I plan on using the quick character maker to see what I can do with both.

The battles at the end had me on tenterhooks because I didn’t know which side to choose. I have ti admit that I felt bad pushing Williams in the fire since he saved my character, Fala from Maker. I did it because I promised Jolon to finish it.

Amazing work, and well worth the wait. I was astonished to see how much details from the past games continued over, like references to Wilu or Rost. Considering there must be so much more variables in the previous games, including ones that I’m not even aware of, I can’t possibly fathom the amount of work and effort that went into crafting these stories! Playing Book 1 and 2 again right before 3’s release really helped me apperciate this attention to detail.

Ironically, I think the part I enjoyed the most in Book 3 was the short road trip section, seeing how the wolves interact with the mundane society. I do hope Book 4 expands more on this aspect. Maybe going even one step further to push the mc directly into politics?

It was a bit of a shame there seemed to be no proper closure to the feral plague situation. It was a slight letdown that seemingly no real breakthrough had been made, despite it being one of the catalysts for the events of the latter half of Book 3. Even if the problem wasn’t completely resolved, I hoped to see at least some explaination of its cause. Maybe I didn’t pick the right choices to figure this out?
