Welcome to the Family: An Outcast's Beginning-WIP

Hmm…I’ve never even heard of Metal Gear Solid, @RagEgnite , so I guess I couldn’t really comment much on that one. But I do know that Cloude has his issues just like everyone else in the household, his are just more about confronting others rather than about how he’s treated.

I guess Sorro and Vessan can kinda resemble those examples, though! Oh well. That’s just how I draw, I guess, haha.

@LOR Metal Gear Solid is pretty epic :o best tactical espionage game in my book. Oh, getting back on topic. I read through the concept and I gotta say, I really like it. I especially like how your artwork is drawn in an adorable shoujo-esque style.

@Batinthehat
Ahhhh, I see. I usually only play RPGs so that may be why I didn’t know about it.

And thank you! I usually have to be in a good mood to draw or else I mess up and get really frustrated, so it’s nice to know these drawings came out good enough :slight_smile:

Speaking of drawings…!

I have finished drawing my favorite twins, Tome and Lyfir.

Here they are:

Appearances:
Tome has pitch-black hair, very pale skin, and gray eyes.
Lyfir’s hair color is more of a normal blonde with purple eyes and an even complexion.

So, yes, these twins are pretty much nothing alike at all whatsoever :smiley:

Sounds interesting, looking forward to the demo ;o

@LOR

The ending to the 3rd game is rather depressing.

@LOR

My favoritist personist everist. You never fail to impress, dear.~ :stuck_out_tongue:

And I was wondering why there’s so many kids. Lust is the factor. You silly parents.

@ClockDS Yes, they’re those parents, sadly. At least they have a sense of duty, though and don’t solely focus on each other.

Ah, yeah, I figured something like that, @RagEgnite , 'cause Cloude does have that sort of sad/stunned/mollified look to him.

Thanks, @Pqfire09 ! I’m aiming to have some sort of demo out soon-ish (like, around the end of March, beginning of April), since I’m mostly trying to get the writing and choices out of the way, then I’ll get more into the complex coding part.

Hi there~! I’ve been a regular forum lurker for a long time, but your intro and character bios have made me excited enough to make an actual post. This game seems like it will fit right up on the list with my other favorite choice games(and I’m picky). :3 Can’t wait to see the demo.

Also, on the matter of having the Mr. and Mrs. as potential romance options, I agree with what has been said so far. If you only allude to it, that’s fine, but if you choose to expand on it that would be quite interesting as well.

@xPikachurin
Thank you for the compliment and leaving some feedback :slight_smile:
Now I’m really thinking on how much the Mr. and Mrs. will be included. I’m not 100% yet, but I think the degrees will differ depending on which one, as well as the actions/choices. Like, it wouldn’t be exactly the same with each of them. I’ll probably make them more difficult to get, too, since they’re not as obvious as the children are.

Just a total random comment, but I’m glad other people are into the parents too. I thought I was the only weird person who actually REALLY wanted them to be a big part in the story.~ :-"

I think cloud is mortified because he walked in on his parents…'nuff said.

@trollhunterthethird Pffffttttt…!
I literally had to take a second to crack up, imagine that, then just laugh again at how so terribly messed up that would be…
Oh, poor little Cloude.

@trollhunterthethird: …Oh, that’s just terrible. :-))

@LOR: Oh, it most certainly *does* make sense. And, with a cast as large as this, I’m definitely hopeful that you’ll be able to make any and all personality differences come across reasonably well.

Vessan, despite his more intimidating demeanor, also actually manages to somehow look physically *younger* than either Sorro or Derrin, at least in my eyes. Though I kind of like the thought of what that could imply about him, I’m assuming that at least *that* wasn’t intentional.

Speaking of resemblances… did you intend to make Lyfir and *Sorro* look like twins? :open_mouth: Other than different textures and styles when it comes to their hair, they appear to be practically mirror-flipped versions of each other. (Not to mention that, personality-wise, they both seem to be quite the charmers.) Come to think of it, it kind of makes Sorro and Vessan seem sheerly unrelated in comparison. :expressionless:

I also very much approve of fully developing the parental figures, as well as ensuring distinct differences between the two characters in terms of interaction and/or potential romance. I would expect nothing less.

By the way, it seems that a few of your posted links have stopped working. The link to Allyne’s picture, bizarrely, no longer works at all. Derrin’s second link also doesn’t lead to anything anymore, but I *did* notice, from what I can tell, that his original link now appears to lead to his second “attempt” anyway. (Marjoine’s picture also appears to be noticeably brighter than I remember it being before.) I’m assuming you’ve been trying to update the pictures?

@Shenrai
Ah, thanks! As for the links, I am trying to re-do many of the pictures for the characters. The only pictures I’m really keeping are Derrin’s and Cloude’s, since I’m happy with those ones. But I’ll either do one of two things: draw them all individually again (like before just way better looking :stuck_out_tongue: ) or I’ll draw all of them together (including the parents). Or I might do both. It depends on my free time and my mood.

But Sorro and Lyfir looking so much alike was totally a coincidence :expressionless:
Oops. That’s another reason for me to re-do the pictures…It’s true that they’re both charmers, though, they do have their differences. One of them is how Lyfir is simply friendlier, while Sorro is more introverted and likes to read rather than be with others. But that doesn’t change the fact that he’s perfectly all right with people asking him things that he’s knowledgeable about.

So, yes, I’ll be re-drawing them either way. And I hope the characters’ personalities and tendencies come out right to everyone else. My favorite part of writing is creating the characters, which is what I naturally do first. After that, I create an interesting world surrounding the created characters.

Basically, I like my characters to be very interesting and always somewhat strange. Because that’s what I myself like best.

Oooookayyy…
I have a question for you people out there, and some comments here and there about progress on the game. So, would anyone truly, genuinely, seriously care about having or not having a stat system? I was thinking about making the game whereas past choices and your relationships with the Valences/people have an effect on how things turn out in the game instead of a stat system. On the stat screen it would display your relationships, your name etc., and maybe some of the things you’ve found out throughout the game so far concerning your origin and past. Or just other info you’ve found out that may or may not be interesting or important later on.

Would that be alright? I mean, if the whole idea of not having stats isn’t something that people would be okay with, then I’ll just put them in like a normal CoG game. But if no one really cares, then I’d rather not. I’m still getting into the whole coding thing, so the less of that I have to do, the easier life will pretty much be.

And I’ll probably start posting potentially very stupid-sounding questions about coding soon, so please be prepared. I am trying to learn what I can, though, through what’s already been said/asked.

The first demo I put out though will only be the prologue, not even the first chapter, just a heads up.
But, um, yeah. Other than that, questions, comments, I’m okay with that stuff.

I definitely wouldn’t mind. I never look at the stats myself when I play a CoG game. I just play and see where the story takes me. c;

And, like you said, it might be easier to do that as well if you’re new to coding. I don’t have a CLUE about coding, which sucks 'cause I do want to make a game myself, but I’m sure you’ll figure something out, dear. :wink:

I wouldn’t mind too much about the absence of a “normal” stat system.

@LOR Wow I didn’t even read this before I posted my own topic on the subject of stats.

I’m doing something extremely similar with my game. I’m ditching the normal stats in favour of relationships and possibly a popularity/notoreity stat. It’s just such a huge hurdle for my gamer self to accept that it’s okay to not have typical stats.

I can’t speak too much about it (since it’s for my contest entry) but if you want to PM I’d be happy to speak more, or to wait until April.

@LOR
You have to use whatever stat system works with your game, even if that’s just relationship stats and a few event flags. Forcing in whatever you think “normal” game stats are isn’t doing anyone any favors.

@LOR Who says that the stats have to be traditional?
