"Vampire: The Masquerade—Sins of the Sires" is a finalist for the 2023 Nebula Game Writing Award!

Since we’ve now devolved to discussing whether or not the mods are hypocrites for not removing a snarky “I voted for the game and I like it” post in here, let me try for a final time to explain what the purpose of THIS THREAD was. It was not, repeat not, intended as a place for people to fight it out over whether or not the game is any good.

This thread was the equivalent of a celebration of the work of the author. Think of it as you might a birthday party. Everyone is invited to the party, everyone can have some cake, everyone can celebrate the special day.

But, if you came to the party to say how much you hate the birthday boy/girl/person, and you want to talk about how the birthday person doesn’t deserve a party, you’ll be ejected from the party. You can talk about how much you hate the birthday person’s work literally anywhere else it would be appropriate to do so, just not here.

You’re right. I did expect that folks would intuit “Nice Thing Happened” as a place to celebrate “Nice Thing.” That was wrong of me.

I myself laid out those expectations after the first round of comments denigrating the achievement. I did so first with some dry humor about no one attacking past finalists, an attempt at humor which you immediately attacked as tone policing, before considering maybe my intentions were just to josh folks into thinking “wow these are maybe hurtful remarks to read on an announcement thread about a good thing that happened.”

In fact I don’t think anyone here has ever policed tone. After that, I straight up have said, as have mods, as have Abby and Jason: this isn’t the place to criticize the game. Not “criticize it nicely.” Not “I don’t like the tone of the comments here” just: no.
