Considering Moravia is the name of a real territory in the then-Czechoslovakia, i figure it is on that part of the Danube (Germany/Austria/Czechoslovakia), by Bavaria. Coincidentally, close to Oktoberfest

You’d expect Czechoslovak and Magyar influence to be quite present then, the fact that it isn’t and French influence is inclines me to the map I’ve re-posted above.

Not necessarily Magyar, take slovakia (which is basically my best guess for the location of Moravia), it doesn’t have, as far as I know (please correct me if I’m wrong), any Magyar influence. The Czech influence is a bit trickier, mainly because I am not sure Czechoslovakia exists in this world. Maybe some kind of Czech republic, but Alex probably made the whole thing very vague exactly because he doesn’t want to locate Moravia in a specific place and then be forced to include that kind of cultural influences.

But hey, this is all nothing but my guess. You might quite possibly be the right one. Still, how would you justify, with that location, the project Alex has for the 70s?

This world is fictional - who knows how WW1 broke when Austria faltered in the East or Turkish fronts… perhaps Germany did advance troops this far into the dual monarchy to prevent uprisings.

I mean this is not unusual - Russia used captured minorities and armed full brigades of them to fight in the war, so if Germany felt the need, I’m sure they would have advanced as it is portrayed here.

Edit: France was a major arms dealer in this time period … ie.Renault engines were far superior to the British versions used in tanks so - why would there not be French influence? They sold arms and components world-wide during this time.

If anything it is Italy which is the less believable influence based on pure projection ability - they had so many troubles in Africa and the Balkans, why would they continue to overextend themselves even that much more?

Two words, “Il Duce”. Fascist states to not tend to be the most self-aware in their often grandiously bellicose and bombastic foreign ambitions.

And they still do. But you’re right in that they were more influential in this, mainly because the US wasn’t during the game’s time period.

Am I the only one who was planning to accept Italy’s offer, use the money to provide jobs and unemployment benefits and then promptly ignore them?

I mean, given that we don’t share a border I doubt Italy can do much if we refuse to ally with them and frankly I had no plans to nationalize industry and drive out foreign investment anyway so attacking Moravia would mean damaging foreign businesses, including their own.

If you do that, they will simple cut off the money.

Eventually, but until my party takes power that’s several years of monetary support. After all, I can hardly ally with Italy if my party isn’t in power?

And frankly once my party does take power, why would I need their money? At that point, assuming my character wasn’t an idiot, he should have saved it up and used it to slowly improve infrastructure in the poorer neighborhoods to try to spark an economic upswing in the country.

Because Moravia might not be the most stable country, and with an economic crisis it’s better to keep the Italian support.

And lets remind ourselves that WW2 is at the door, pissing off the french isn’t really a big problem (it’s not as if they will act in time or strongly enough to save us from the germans), but pissing of Italy (and their German friends)? Not a good choice. As soon as the war breaks out Moravia is one of the first countries to be invaded. An alliance with the Italians would spare our country from a large part of the war’s atrocities, I think.

This being said, given the history of my country, I hate fascism, so I will gladly spit on Mussolini’s hand as soon as I grab the money he offers me. My only wish would be to do the same to Salazar and Franco. Moravia isn’t going fascist in my watch, only highly conservative. Yep, in New Order I am obviously going for the alliance with the conservatives option, no way fascism is taking the reins of the government on my watch, and besides, I am basically role-playing in the New Order path as an “infiltrated” democrat that joined them just to destroy the movement from the within.

I doubt Italy would help us, I think when it happens the alliance will end.
The same would happen with the alliance with France.

Enough.

The author has asked not to devolve his WiP thread into morality arguments about ideologies and beliefs. I’m going to move some of the posts to a new thread.

Please stop and think of how your post will be giving feedback for the author and his game -

These might have been answered already but 2 questions if I may:
1.) How long is the game expected to be?
2.) How much influence does our background choice have?

I really love the game and I was wondering; will there be an option for our character to take over our party?

No, you will not be able to take over.

Is it possible to switch to the other faction instead of staying with the faction you chose at the beginning? This question may have been answered already, but thanks in advance.

Even though we can’t take over, can we break from our own party as we did on the budget vote, but in a more significant and permanent way. Say Wulf believes the time for armed revolution the proletariat is upon us, but my character believes in the slow and peaceful evolution to Socialism (As Marx did). Would we be able to permanently break ranks from our party to stop it?

There’s a socialist republic path if we stick with Wulf where we will be able to decide our actions during the takeover and a social democracy path if we try to moderate the party. New order have the same possibilities by either sticking with Riga or supporting the conservative coalition.

You will not be able to break from your party. You will be able to go for the moderate party, where you will forge either a right alliance with the National bloc and the Prince to make Moravia a paternalistic authoritarian right wing state under the crown or you can make a left alliance with the SDP and continue with the Parliamentary Monarchy dominated by the left alliance
In both moderate path, the leader of the radical party will have their power undermined.
