I don’t see it as horror. Like you said @Samuel_H_Young it is dark I really don’t see it as gothic. Also I think there is action, and adventure in it. So more like Dark Medieval action adventure Fantasy.
@Samuel_H_Young I did not mention the bear fight because I thought the weapon inefficiency is a bug. I mentioned it so you know where I ended up so you can play to that part yourself in case you wanted to see what it looked like.
I didn’t copy the whole paragraph as it is too long. The beginning is important: “In a series of rapid and fluid motions, you unravel the poison filled vials from around your waist, sever a small section off your garments, uncork one of the vials, stuff the rag into the opening, and slam your flint and metal together, igniting the rag. As the bandits become nearer in proximity, you cast the vials through the air while the flame consuming the rag reaches the flammable contents inside. The improvised explosive detonates in a cloud of pitch black smoke, vibrant green flame and raw power. Sarrivan is engulfed in the explosion which sends him careening into a nearby wall, burning debris hailing down upon him.”
@Storm I find vampires, gargoyles, witches, vampires counting salt etc. as gothic horror elements. There is definitely high fantasy too, but it’s primarily gothic horror in my eyes. My game is pure gothic horror and I see many connections with Trial of Demon Hunter.
it is gothic and fantastic but i couldn’t found horror anywhere. There is no part of it scary ,or profusely bloody so no horror at all
@Storm
@MaraJade
I agrew with you guys:)
@Dseg
I’ll fix that part today hopefully. And I agree with you on the Gothic elements
@MaraJade Gothic horror is the name of the genre. I don’t find anything scary in any kind of horror, gothic or otherwise. I used the term “horror” simply because it is part of the name of the genre I am referring to.
@Storm
“Dark Medieval action adventure Fantasy.”
hahaha
@Samuel_H_Young I also thought of adding vampires counting salt, but then cut it because I will allow the players to turn into a vampire. It would be silly for the player to be forced to stop doing something because they have to count salt grains.
However, I will implement vampire invitation because it offers a good balance. When the players are human it gives them an advantage over vampires and when they are a vampire, they have to find a way into a house if they want to reach someone.
@Dseg
Your game seems awesome, and the spells you created were really cool
@Samuel_H_Young I am planning for it to be awesome, but it will be for people to decide. I changed the magic system. Instead of players having to learn individual spells, they will have to be proficient at elements.
So instead learning healing, resurrection etc., the players will have to simply have their light high enough. That means light of 1 offers you to heal a little bit where light of 10 would allow you to heal any amount of nonlethal damage. However, sometimes spellcasting will be unavailable if the players don’t have the required element high enough. Good news is that, at least in theory, I can come up with an unlimited amount of spells like that as all the spells would depend on context and situation they are used in.
Also, the game is based on my stories which have some lore and there women are much better at magic than men. I had to change that for the game because players who wanted to experience magic to its full potential would have to play as a woman.
I hope this wasn’t too long and confusing.
@Dseg
Not at all! I can’t wait to see it published. Have your other stories been published:)?
@Samuel_H_Young Nope. I have wasted a lot of time writing a novel I couldn’t finish and what stories I have are too short and too few to be published. Instead of writing more and publishing them, all gothic horror stuff will be adapted for CS at one point in time or another. When it comes to writing, I shifted to zombie apocalypse. I will focus much more on gothic for CS, however. CS games take writing time roughly as much as a novel, but are much easier both to write and publish.
@Dseg
Awesome:) I personally prefer interactive over conventional novels. Though CS novels are a little easier to write, they include coding so that kinda evens the difficulty out. However, I agree that they’re MUCH easier to get published.
@Samuel_H_Young Now I started thinking about writing everything ever in CS.
@DSeg
I totally agree! I’ve got the whole Demons Among Men series (which consists of 8 books) planned out for CS
@Samuel_H_Young I have always wanted to make games, but found all the programming languages too difficult to either learn or use if I managed to learn the basics. Even the ones that say they are made for complete beginners in programming. They all lied, except CS. Have you tried reading the articles here: http://choicescriptdev.wikia.com/wiki/Index You’ll see how easy coding in CS actually is. I learned most of the things from the wiki articles. The article for *create seems to be outdated. I don’t know about the others, but they are probably not.
@DSeg
Yeah Ik:P I’ve nearly completed a CS novel, remember? And CS is actually pretty fun, too
Yeah, it’s funny and not only that you even don’t need a pc to code, you could do with almost anything with internet. So it’s awesome!
@Samuel_H_Young I thought this would help as you said you were a CS novice. Don’t think I am underestimating you or something. I hope CoG publishes Demon Hunter some day. It is great.
@DSeg
Oh I wasn’t taking offense at all. Thank you very much
Yeah so… I got caught in a death loop during the vampire battle. Survived the first fight the first time I did it but got killed by the chandeleir, then when I went back to the first fight with him I got killed by the every time and my equipment used didn’t reset to what I had actually used…
Ran into a few minor things too. For example during the battle with the assassins I felt like it could be better when telling me which assassin I’m fighting. If you enter that encounter with Boggart in your backpack and use the silver chain option on the first combatant (haven’t tried any of the others) you don’t manage to kill them, yet after my first kill I only have to face the 3rd Assassin?
If you choose the Silver Chain option with Boggart out of your backpack, the term “*goto face Hestia” comes up and it says before and after that you “quickly retrieve your silver chain,” even though I only used it once. Following this path also means that you supposedly face Hestia and Venagfire(?) although it only mentions you actually defeating one of them, supposedly venagfire(?) survive having her throat slit and turn into Hestia.
Another problem that I found following this option is that it mentions “your fallen boggart” even though it doesn’t your boggart being hit. I haven’t tried any of the other options for this fight so I don’t know if those have problems.
Following the Forest option gives you two chance to change the Boggarts form, however following the Trail option only gives you one.
When fighting the bandits, I chose to project daggers and in the text where you describe your options, it’s missing a second quotation mark. (Haven’t tried any of the other options yet.)
If you use the makeshift poison bomb during your fight with Sarrivan the game mentions “As the bandits become nearer in proximity” even though there are clearly no bandits.
For the next few problems, they only appeared when I followed the forest and chose to turn Boggart into his transformation (electric viper) at the second chance:
Dodging the roped knives during the ambush, and then trying to use your silver chain to stop yourself from falling into the pit will make the term “what you can only hope is a reassuring expression” comes up three times, I think it’s once for every paragraph.
Minor typo: " you Harlow alights at the top of the depression" came up on the same page as the previous problem.
Choosing the “release iron” during the fight verses sarrivan causes a section where Boggart flies over Sarrivan and stabs him with his tail, which causes an electric current to flow through Sarrivan. If he’s in his viper form, shouldn’t he not be able to stab someone with his tail? Let alone fly?
Anyway, that’s all the errors I found although I didn’t explore a bunch of the options. Hope that helps.
