@Shoelip
Oh okay, you’ve gotten about half way through. I’ll fix that error today
I supppose they’re similiar, but doesn’t mustard gas slowly decompose your body?

Oh yeah, when I try to use the candle on the third witch/warlock I get this error:
line 1317: invalid ${} variable substitution at letter 651
@Samuel_H_Young When it comes to checkpoints:
*create cp_health
*create cp_variable_a
etc.
*set cp_health health
*set cp_variable_a variable_a
etc.
That means cp_health will store the value of health as it is at this point in the game.
*choice
#Restart completely
*goto_scene startup
#Return to my previous checkpoint
*if witches
*set health cp_health
*set variable_a cp_variable_a
etc.
*goto_scene witch_fight
*if traps
*same thing here
*goto_scene traps
*if vampire
*same thing here
*goto_scene vampire
That will set current variable values to the value their cp_ variables hold at the checkpoints.
I played through again and chose the candle, and I got a similar but slightly different error message.
line 1317: invalid ${} variable substitution at letter 648
I don’t know what this is, but I guess it’s a bug… It’s really strange though.
If I choose to snipe the witches with the Bogart’s poison, and then choose to target the sexy witch and either one of the other two first, it says the former falls unconscious and the latter two just fall down “immobile”. Then when I fight the remaining witch, whichever option I choose seems to freeze both the game, and the CoG forum tabs in chrome, but not any of my other tabs…
I’ll fix all of those errors later today
While playing through again I chose to play a male, and chose to have the Bogart (Can I just call him Humphrey? That’s clearly the best name. :D) support me in combat with his snake form. The witches then started referring to me as “She”.
I can’t exactly remember all the other choices I made, so hopefully that’s enough info to fix the problem…
EDIT: Oh yeah, I also chose the third witch as female.
@Shoelace
Those darn pronoun variables mess up no matter what I do T.T
Hey everyone, I’ve fixed all of those errors, and now I’m gonna edit the assassin battle to where you don’t kill them initially and can choose what to do with them afterwards, kind of like with the bandits.
Hey young can you repost a link please
Tanks boss
I love the game
@JLBH
Thanks:)
The toad poison thing is quite odd. It seems like whenever I snipe Velefira and the sexy witch I then go on to fight with Hestia only for my next choice to freeze both the game tab and the CoG forum tab… but only those tabs. This seems to happen every time I choose to snipe those two. When I choose to snipe Hestia and the sexy witch The fight with Velefira continues as normal, but once it’s over the other two are still awake and attack me as if I never used the poison on them.
Finally, if I snipe both Velefira and Hestia it seems to act as if both of them are both already dead once I’ve dealt with the third witch. This seems to contradict other examples of the poison’s effects which indicate that it is non-lethal.
I also noticed a typo when you encounter the bear in the forest path. One of the options is “shoot the assassin with poisonous darts.”
I had some thoughts about the flow of the first combat. Obviously this would be more work, but I think these ideas might make the game a bit deeper. The first two fights with Velefira and Hestia work well, but it feels a bit disjointed sometimes when you get to the third witch. I think part of it is that with the first two you got to choose how to react to them with all your tools when they first attack, whereas with the third you immediately start attacking her in close combat despite her not taking any hostile action towards you, I guess it makes sense to assume she’s hostile, but on the other hand it could also make sense not to, and either way though it seems like it’d make sense to be a bit less reckless with someone whose abilities you don’t know. This could also help to make the third seem like a more credible threat, or a more credible victim, since right now she feels more like an obvious trap you can fall for if you decide to.
While I’m on the subject of her being an obvious trap, in both the instance where your conc bomb them with Humphrey or snipe the two first witches with darts, you end up in a situation where you’ve neutralized the two obvious threats without exposing yourself to any danger, while still leaving the third which alive. In both cases though, she tries to give you her healing kiss, despite you being clearly uninjured. It makes the trap feel even more obvious.
I hope you don’t take all this criticism badly. I’m only offering because I already think the game and author are good enough to be worth the time i takes to write all this stuff.
@Shoelip
All feedback is welcome, especially thorough ones like this. I think I’ll have to go through the sniping part very thoroughly because it seems to be very muddled.
And I’ll add in *if statement in there for players who haven’t been hurt
Hey everyone, I’ve corrected a couple typos, and altered the assassin battle so that you don’t kill them initially (unless extraneous circumstances arise like if you blow them up), and then have a choice of how to deal with them.
Now, I’m gonna work on fixing the sniping section. After that, I hope to finally fix my checkpoint system, but that all depends if there are no more things that need to be fixed.
Having said that, I’d love to hear what you guys (especially @Shoelip) think of the updated assassin fight.
Well, first play through, I died horribly.
Second the same. Seems to be really common now… If you fight Hestia with the staff the description says you decapitate her, but then you knock her out later if you choose to incarcerate the Illusionist. The description of the fight with the illusionist still seems to be the same as before, if you use the candle or kiss options, but now she wakes up from her injuries after you loot the group even though you stabbed her in the stomach and chest… I don’t know if that was intended or not.
This is a minor typo, but Hestia is called a Cadaver when you use the chain to bind her and hit her wrists.
In a way, the fact that you now only have the choice to kill them as helpless prisoners (or with massive overkill) makes it even more dark and morally questionable… Not sure if that was intentional or not. A way to change this this might be to decide whether you want to go for a kill or a disable on a per opponent basis. Of course that would add more variables…
It seems that they always escape and try to kill you anyway.
In fact, even if you execute them they come back to life and kill you. Now it looks like the only way to progress is to destruction nade them, leading to only Hestia surviving… then you can beat her fairly easily, though this time it’s lethal.
Is there any way out of this situation without either you or all of them dying? Do skills have anything to do with it?
It would probably help to add a line where you discover the third witch’s name, since as it stands you seem to just make it up… which I guess is fine too, but it’s not really clear.
Eh, I get the feeling that I’m a lot more interested in these characters than I’m supposed to be… Well, I blame your humanizing artwork. They look too human in your pics (especially Hestia) for me to think of them as inhuman monsters.
@Shoelip
That decapitating part must have been an error - I tried to go through all of the fight scenes and make it so you just defeat them instead of killing them.
I haven’t changed the illusionist part because I’m still contemplating what to change that to.
And that cadaver part must be left over from when I was taking out all of the deaths. I’ll fix it.
It must be an error that if you kill them they come back and kill you, which I’ll fix.
You say it’s dark and morally questionable, but the way I see it is that you’re a bounty hunter who’s supposed to rid the area of evil, and people who sacrifice the innocent to demons for power definitely fit that category. Think of it this way; are Aragorn and Gandalf morally questionable for killing orcs? They beheaded them and were never thought of in a bad way for that. Also, remember that this is medieval.
Sure, but they are still helpless prisoners at one point. So do you sink to their level? I guess so if the alternative is death… Just kind of a bummer to me. They aren’t orcs. Orcs (in Tolkien) are like sentient zombies. They were once elves, until twisted, tortured, and mutilated by Melkor. They are technically victims, but they have been changed beyond all recognition. Orcs never surrender. In a way, Orcs are tolkien’s greatest weakness as a writer as they are not very compelling villains without any real way for the audience to identify with them.
Not that this is really applicable, but I should point out since you mentioned it that medieval witches were almost always perfectly innocent women used as scapegoats for other people’s crimes, or just bad luck. I guess you could say I believe rather strongly in redemption, but if that’s not you, then don’t feel like you have to change the game to fit my tasted. I imagine it’d be a lot more work than it’s worth if you aren’t really into it.
I think I should requote the part of my post I edited in later since it seems you missed it:
“Eh, I get the feeling that I’m a lot more interested in these characters than I’m supposed to be… Well, I blame your humanizing artwork. They look too human in your pics (especially Hestia) for me to think of them as inhuman monsters. :p”
@Shoelip
Yes but those are historical, falsely accused witches.
So maybe I’ll change it so that killing them is the slightly immoral thing to do, whereas just incarcerating them is the morally better choice, and they don’t escape and kill you?
Because remember, they’re evil assassins who were promised powers beyond their wildest dreams if they kill you, so they won’t simply run away or become allies with you.
