The Wight King(WIP) - Chapter 6 added (12/01/2023)

I had actually never deeply considered the psychological implications of undeath, so thank you for offering your perspective on how it would effect someone. I suppose the predatory mindset the majority of undead in different works (those I’ve read, anyway) have makes sense, especially in the cases of those that have no choice but to prey on the living to perpetuate their existence. I suppose the MC I create will become somewhat cold and logical after fully embracing undeath, much as you said, but will not engage in wanton violence. He would kill if he deemed it necessary to do so but spare those whom he believes will not cause much trouble for himself or others, though he may occasionally spare even those who can pose a threat to him if they seem like good people, such as Asterius, whom we fight after breaking out of our tomb (not that we win against him).

Oh that’s perfectly fine, why would I want to be mortal? I just want keep my skin. Don’t want Mr. Skintaker to get any ideas. Besides lack of mortality is a good elf draw anyhow.

Myrimidons? Like there’s a race of Greek people that are sociopaths?

It’s okay, they’re patient. They’ll get your skin eventually.

Yeah they’re just ancient greeks

To summarize very grossly they are a hive of insectoid creatures capable of taking on varied and highly specialized forms depending on their role, some of them humanoid.

They sound like a pain to deal with, so the only reasonable course of action is to make them the Nerubians to my Lich King.

How humanoid are we talking here? like anime monster girl humanoid, genestealer humanoid or both?

They sound very adaptable. Definitely sounds annoying to deal with. Especially if some of them are skilled enough to shapeshift into other people and mess up the society like how most doppelgangers do.

They are incredibly dangerous, they’re not only very adaptable, they are fiercely and coldly intelligent. They could be a major existential threat to the species of the surface world if they were more aggressive or expansionist.

Monster girls… ugh.

Myrmidons tend to adapt according to certain patterns that are proven effective. It’s possible for isolated hive members to adapt in unique and unpredictable way, or for hive drones to grow “wrong” to become deviants and sometimes develop new and different adaptations which are either purged or assimilated. Deviance is very common among vagabonds whose connection to their hive mind is either severed or tenuous.

For a common Myrmidon adaptation, the most humanoid it gets are bipedal insects with a general humanoid construction, think upright posture, hands, usually specialized warriors who adapt this way to use weapons.

But there are rarer forms, for examples, one that adapts to be able to communicate with humanoids better. While clearly still somewhat monstrous, their shape and abilities are tailored to seem appealing and facilitate communication with other races. Or deception drones able to mimic humanoid form.

Purely technically, I’m not going to say there’s a hard limit to how far removed from the average myrmidon certain adaptations can get. So it could be possible for certain myrmidons to be even closer to humanoid species than this.

Knew it, gonna have to keep them in check so they don’t eat the world and what better way than to use necromancy, I’d bet undeath would suit them just fine.

This makes them even more dangerous in my book.

Oh no, they can be anime monster girls, thats how you turn them into waifus! the world will be doomed if the insects realize how to weaponize the horny.

Wow like Chimera Ant from HunterXHunter

So… They’re hivers? Can we have a Beep?

But when does a comet become a meteor?
When does a candlе become a blaze?
When does a ripple become a tidal wave?
When does the reason become the blame
When does a man become a monster?

I’m only interested in the undead, sorry

Better them then the Night Clowns I suppose.

They’re kept in check by leaving them well alone. They have little interest in the affairs of other mortals beyond ensuring their own survival, if anything they’re willing to cooperate if there is something to gain.

They are not so active overground except for particular places where their hives open to the surface, the most of their civilization spreads through the underworld. And like the dwarves they are very busy with the things from deeper below.

Vagabonds often look for work as adventurers, their particular skills are set to good use in underground exploration and survival.

Oh they realized. But when I say the “diplomats” are humanoid, it’s just on the surface. Peel back their finery, look closely at their features and the illusion would fall quickly. They are made to appeal to humanoid beings, but the illusion can be broken quickly if you look for it.

I tragically don’t know much about this setting, but I think that might true in certain ways.

I’m just a man… :smiling_face_with_tear:

P.S. Oh yeah I just remembered it’s because of you that I’ve been suffering from Thunder Bringer addiction.

I can’t talk about the Jester cults now, people are going to complain I only write lore again!

Try all they can not to confess, in the end, it’s all the same once I apply all the pressure.

Oh reasonable sociopaths. Finally some real diversity.

I mean… I didn’t want to say anything :face_with_open_eyes_and_hand_over_mouth:

I just have this picture in mind of a human making a giant praying mantis in disguise very uncomfortable.

“You are being rescued, do not resist.”

Or the infamous, “Worry not human, we will dispose of the corpses.” Locust swarms the still warm corpses of friends and foes.

Everyone’s a critic.

Reasonable sociopaths and psychopaths are always fun to play in IFs lol the sheer surprise the other characters have is usually a hilarious mix of fear and grudging gratefulness especially if the maniac in question saved or just didn’t decide to make them a casualty in their murder spree.

I mean that’s a free meal if anything.

I just want you to reach your full potential, I know you can do better than this, you are better than this, you wouldn’t want to disappoint… (Checks notes).
Insert older family member here. :innocent:

I mean not like we all have the same value of corpse.

It can gnaw someone’s face off, AND be flustered.

Joke’s on you, I don’t care what they think about me. :triumph:

True, but I think no matter your outlook on corpse etiquette, watching something eat your own right in front of you without warning will probably not be a great experience.

If it lives it can be an undead.

See if it wasn’t because this is the actual word of god I would doubt it with all my being.

I’m sure that would only stop some people, just look at our world.

Just in general. There are always exceptions…

Each myrmidon hive is different from another.

I’m not saying it would. Or should, for that matter, if theriantropes are fair game so would be the myrmidons.

It was more of a commentary on the idea that even the most humanoid of them are still rather far up the monster scale.

That is certainly a type of character you can play as here. I think personally they are more interesting than murderhobos. It’s more compatible with a story too.

What if it’s a robot?

Murderhobos are weird be a well groomed serial killer. or live in a bag of holding

If yes then I’d say robots and whatever living metal/rock being that may or may not exist count too.

I don’t think the warning would help either, however reasonable they may be.
