The Superlatives: Shattered Worlds — Hunt a killer and save the solar system!

It’s not ‘hate’ the game is getting.
Just disappointment and confusion over what happened

Hate ? Where is hate on any comments? The fact someone doesn’t like same and have different opinions doesnt means the others are hateful for the game.

All opinions are exactly as valid. I didn’t like it I didn’t feel it was my character at all and romances are exactly same . But I don’t hate it. If i hate something i say I hate it. I just found it worse that first one and that wasn’t was I was expecting from advertising.

Guess you are right. Hate might be a strong word on my part. Sorry. But I think the edit in my previous post shows my confusion. I wouldn’t say this game is flawless either but imo opinion it’s enjoyable enough to leave me expecting to read more positive reviews not just negative ones?
Anyway what I tried to say that for me this game was better than what I expected based on the reviews I’ve read here.

Can you describe “what happened”? I genuinely don’t understand where there is a broken promise or something. You don’t like the sequel. It doesn’t have the “care” for you, but it seems like it does have exactly what the author cares about:

I.e., you don’t like the interplanetary issues and conflicts that the game centers on. It’s a more remote and less NPC-centered game. That’s fine. But ??? It’s not like there is some betrayal of expectations. What are the expectations based on? How do you feel about Grand Academy for Future Villains getting a sequel? What are the demands and expectations?

People… prolly expected something on par with aetherfall, with a new mc.

As for Academy: a good continuation of the story, preferably without cutting of branches.
I know it’d be hard seeing the endings but I trust in the author to find a way. If they need help, the community is here to lend a brain.

I was expecting an action packaged game where we were a kind of Spectre like in Mass Effect and negotiating with diverse groups like in first game but bigger scale. Some kind of Steam punk 007 in Space far more action and fast pace and moreimportance of previous npcs.

So, briefly coming back to Academy: Is there a chance it will get a developer’s diary? No matter how far it is yet? Might be a goid thing?

Now back on topic

Just to briefly chime in here…

When I ‘finished’ writing Werewolves: Haven Rising, I kicked the last 3 chapters over to Jason and he came back to me with extensive notes but was very clear with me that the branching in the last few chapters was ‘not sufficient.’

Basically, he told me what could be better and what kind of content needed to be added, and I spent an additional 2 months writing approx 50k more words to flesh it out. (that’s half the size of a regular novel.) In the end, I’m very happy that he pushed me hard on that, because the final product is SO much better due to the tough love, and I think I learned a lot as a choicescript designer from the challenge.

TL/DR, I can’t speak for other editor/author pairings, but Jason absolutely got me to polish Werewolves, and as a result it was pushed back at least 2 months. But it was better for it, and I think the results show in sales numbers, reviews, and reader satisfaction.

Probably not a developer’s diary, more likely an open WIP for the first few chapters, once a save game for GAFV has been implemented and players could test an import.

I think that’s a great idea as I am not confident in my quality as a serious beta tester as I am not very professional. Still in a more relaxed fashion I could be somehow of utility. I hope so at least.

I mean, yes. I remember that. It’s unfortunate that major changes were needed at full draft–but the lack of branching in that draft of Werewolves was prominent. And that’s something every editor evaluates. One piece that I pushed on for Aetherfall was a lack of a satisfying branch/conclusion of the Gatsby storyline, but the rewrites and additional content it would have required meant the author spent her time on fixing other elements of Aetherfall.

I tend to read “rushed” comments as “there was a lot of buildup and I didn’t find the latter part of the game a satisfying payoff”, but it’s tricky to know how to engage with comments that are more in the line of “I feel like the author didn’t care about the work”. It ends up being more about speculation about how an author might have felt when writing, which isn’t as helpful.

Anyway, seconding @GreekWinter’s comments here; the editorial process has been thoughtful and rigorous, and I’ve never been in a position where I’ve been pressured to finish a milestone before the game was ready. I’ve also spent a significant amount of time on revisions and polish - and, for what it’s worth, of course Blood Money wasn’t perfect when it shipped, because nothing is!

In my experience it’s not a case of careening ahead to churn out cut-rate material at top speed. CoG doesn’t treat authors like battery chickens or content farms, and especially given what a trainwreck a lot of the game industry is in that respect, I’m extremely happy to be working with them.

@poison_mara for what it’s worth I’ve found your comments on my work very useful - thank you for your time

Personally I think CoG games are (in general) better written than some of HG and I believe that is due to the works of CoG editors (being profesional and all). So I’ll leave that here.

I think it’s the author’s direction that is different from everyone’s expectation. The book 1 was strong; perhaps too strong that I still want to meet the old characters, but the author apparently didn’t prefer that and decided to develop new characters. Unfortunately, none of the new characters are as strong as the old characters and that leave us (or just me) dissatisfied with the very little interaction our MC had with the old characters.

Now the debatable ‘rushed’ comment. Perhaps it’s because some of the scenes are pretty much the same no matter which route you pick. Of course it’s difficult to be totally different but you could make small changes depending on who said it based on their characters (see my previous comment about conversation between ROs) AND we know the author could do it as we have seen in the first book but somehow she didn’t do it.

Sequel is tricky; I could mention tons on series that started with a bang and went down on the second book. Not that I say this one was a flop; but it did go down few notches.

Sorry But not consider a game as good as the original is not WHINING. People were giving constructiive criticism to a game we have bought. It is like you are saying we can’t say our opinions about games that we have paid or something.

I don’t see anyone whining here. We all gave critisms and opinions. Everyone gave reasons why they aren’t into the sequel or why they love the first more. So you’re saying we shold just buy and shut up?

Just want to remind everyone to keep a cool head and do not engage. People are free to provide their own opinion but use care when providing them.

Thank you.
