Tally Ho Spoilers Discussion

Ahahahahaha! That was so precious, I swear! I absolutely agree with Myrtle here. But just out of curiosity, what did you think all those Shakespearean verses meant in the book?

Actually, I couldn’t understand most of what they meant either, but the one about as soon as something shrinking (?) as soon as it grew felt very offensive to my poor male Haze. :joy:

The one about “As fast as thou shalt wane, so fast thou grow’st…”? The sonnet is about how someone should reproduce asap to preserve one’s beauty in one’s children, as beauty in one’s self will fade over time.

If I may bring up Choice of the Vampire, it’s not too dissimilar to Silas Hope’s recital of “But if thou live remembered not to be, / Die single, and thine image dies with thee.”, even though it’s from a different sonnet.

I usually picked “Take all my loves, my love, yea, take them all…”, because the full poem perfectly encapsulates the “wow, we sure are making a mistake here” feelings I have towards the whole situation.

Valentine has a similar set of choices involving musicals from the 1900s too. I was hoping that Vyv would have something like it (Maybe with painting titles? I can see Gustav Klimt’s The Kiss being one of the options.) during that scene in arena’s balcony. It’s too bad things got interrupted there lol.

Oh man, this was killing me! Thanks! Now that you mention the original context, I remember reading it, but what does it mean in HAZE’S context dammit?

My favourite one is “Blow blow thou winter wind” because I figured (except for the bold one) most of my MCs wouldn’t want to “go the whole way”, but also because I always presume sex without attachments - especially with someone like Haze - to lack warmth and comfort. Sure, Haze will make you shiver and tickle you in all the right places, and it’ll be fun, but it’ll leave you feeling cold and dead inside. :joy:

Edit: Whaaaaaaaa- I’ve romanced Valentine so many times and have never got that far.

The Kiss is a very pretty painting indeed but I’d prefer to go Starry Night Over the Rhône, or, if my mind’s going to dirtier places, The Scream.

Oops, I’ve turned this thread into an NSFW one. Gotta stop, gotta stop.

Maybe it’s just a thing about how “time is short and beauty is fleeting, so let’s not waste any more”?

Here’s the thing though: That quote Is really sombre in the original source–there are lines in the song later about how the winter wind is not as bad as a person’s ingratitude, most friendships are fake and love is foolish. Which, like, goddamn. Who hurt you, Haze?

And er, before I read too much into this, I always thought the line was just referring to how the tryst took place outdoors during a chilly autumn afternoon. :flushed: Didn’t even consider whatever you wrote. Moving on!

Yeah! You’ll get that part slightly before you went night-swimming together. It’s cute.

I didn’t particularly understand anything about the verses either, I just picked the shining ruby verse (if I remember correctly)

Anyways, thanks for finding me adorable (??) (If that’s what you’re trying to say by agreeing with Myrtle  )

Wow everyone here is thinking it was a hook-up with Haze while I’m here thinking they were talking with each other like trying to establish themselves as acquaintances before being friends-then lovers

I knooowww! :-(( Given Haze’s mental health, there’s a high likelihood that the smallest things will hurt them and they’ll lash out in return. I know the epilogue didn’t go into it, but it’ll be very difficult making a happy life with them after the honeymoon phase. Anyway, YES! Definitely reading too much into it. I like your original interpretation about it being a chilly autumn afternoon much better :beers:

Ah, yes, night swimming. This made me realise that I’ve only managed to successfully romance Valentine once and I hardly remember anything. But every time I try, I get waylaid by Rory, or by Frankincense AND Rory, or even Haze.

Okay now I was going to say you are adorable for thanking us for calling you adorable, but that would be too much, so I’ll just say, you’re welcome!

Can you guys give me tips on how to be sucessfully inducted in the Cadbury Secret Circle? What stats would make it easier for me to boost my invitation?

I would say your actions matter more instead of stats. The only one you truly need is >40 Observation or Intellect so you’ll notice Regina calling you for the stakeout mission in chapter 6. The rest of your build can go according to your own playstyle, really.

Showing that you are a good snooper/interrogator during the foxhunt helps a lot (which also means you’re most likely to be Ambrose’s prime suspect, but it’s fine). Letting Figs be exposed as the fake Professor Hickory during dinner time would also improve your chances, as is going along with the stakeout at Dr. X’s mansion instead of the other two events in the next chapter.

No such thing. I think it’s a rumor.

Finally, I have received the best ending in the game by being admitted to the Secret Circle! After frustratingly trying for many months my hard work has paid off. Now, off to the sequel then.

You gave me hope and I am very much happy to be with rory

Hello, would anyone be so kind as to share a Haze walkthrough that gets them to stay at the Roman Wall? I know I need soothing 66%, but I don’t have the code since I bought Tally Ho on the app store, and if my character is so soothing, I can’t seem to get Haze to like them, and if they’re not, Haze leaves during the scene, so I’d be more than grateful for any tips.

First, if you email customer support with proof of purchase, I think they’ll unlock the code for you.

Second, I think getting Haze to stay at the Roman Wall is pretty well covered here:

Here I am again! I apologise that I keep asking questions, but unfortunately, despite emailing customer support with proof of purchase asking for the code, I haven’t received an answer. How do I get Aunt Primrose to like me enough that she’ll help me find employment with an earl?

For Aunt Primrose to help you, she has to like you more than 65, and your Renown has to be at least 65.

The Dos and Don’ts of Making Aunt Primrose Like You

Do

Summary
  • Give her an excellent dinner (Chapter 1)
  • Give her an excellent birthday gift, including helping Rory say a few words before giving the gift (Ch. 3)
  • Ride your horse well if you ride with Aunt Primrose (Ch. 4)
  • Assist Valentine to ensure an excellent party (Ch. 4)
  • Suggest waltzing instead of doing the Lindy Hop if you stay with Valentine after setting up the party (Ch. 4)
  • Reattach Figs’ beard for him with Persuade > 35, or create a diversion by juggling and balancing with Bold > 40. If you create a diversion by starting a fight with Col. Firesnuff, concede victory to him once Figs’ beard is reattached (Ch. 5)
  • Give Carlington your full attention when he and Regina talk with you and Valentine (Ch. 5)
  • Choose the attractive pastel boat (Ch. 7)
  • Nod comfortingly at Primrose while Inspector Ambrose speaks (Ch. 7)
  • Say that Rory would never steal from their dear aunt if Rory is the suspect (Ch. 7)
  • Go to the police station to talk some sense into Inspector Ambrose if Regina, Valentine, or Rory is arrested (Ch. 7)
  • Tell Primrose if Mopsie makes plans to break the suspect out of jail (Ch. 7)
  • Win the Exotic Animal Show and the boat race–these are probably the most important (Ch. 8)

Don’t

Summary
  • Criticize Aunt Primrose, even in private
  • Get caught hanging up or disposing of Figs’ painting (Ch. 3)
  • Speak to her in favor of Figs unless you have Persuade > 45 (Ch. 4)
  • Get caught doing the Lindy Hop–it’s safest not to do the Lindy Hop at all (Ch. 4)
  • Disrupt dinner, particularly by trying to give Figs a note on a napkin, letting his portrait offend her, or saying anything rude to keep Figs from eating the pie (Ch. 5)
  • Help the suspect escape the police station (Ch. 7)
  • Spurn the crowd before the boat race (Ch. 8)

I have to say, this is the favorite book of mine in all of cog and hg. Admittedly I haevn’t read that many of them, but this is still pretty frickin good. It’s safe to say the only reason I’ve made an account on this forum is to write here.

The depth you go to is ridiculous, with all the branching paths and narratives (most of them continued in the sequal no less), and is my second favourite thing about the book. The first favourite being the wonderful charecterisation. In my first playthrough, I didn’t even realise most of the characters, um charecters, except for mopsie probably bring bipolar. The way you handled the charecters, especially haze, is definitively better than most actual novels I’ve read. Everyone from primrose to Frank has a background, unique motivation, and actual personality. I’ve got no idea how one does that, bit it’s impressive.

I thought I had seen most of what there was to see when I had toured prison, been hired by X, done the poly route and the hazel route, but that was a month ago and I’m still finding new things. Like say baiting haze and running off with her, writing a novel, editing the scandalous novel instead of burning it, and so on

Arguably I like this installment better than cakes and ale, but admittedly I’ve been through that a grand total of three time, so chances there’s a lot still there. Still, this is one of the best pieces of literature I’ve ever had the pleasure of reading and for that, I thank you @gower

My only gripe, and it’s a trifle really, is the Frank individual romance. I have no idea how to go about it and Its infuriating. Like, I’ve literally never managed to even accomplish the ‘midnight liasion’ with her and I’ve heard tumors of it being possible to marry her. I spent an hour at it today and while I managed to discover at least three unrelated and new routes and two hidden achievements, that still somehow mysterious. (Monte Carlo, marriage at sea)

Thank you so much for this post, and thanks for specifically mentioning this:

Because it’s the thing I care the most about in my games, and a big part of the reason why I write them! And also the reason why I’ve been spending the last week writing and rewriting a scene with a new character, because I want to get her voice just right. I can’t wait for you to meet some of these new characters in Tea and Scones.

For some reason, the Frankincense romance is the hardest to trigger. Some numbers are clearly a bit too high in there, and while it sort of works, personality-wise, I could probably stand to nudge them down ever so slightly. On the other hand, if searching for it led you to find new routes and hidden achievements, maybe it was all worthwhile in the end.

A suggestion that I give from time to time to people who have a hard time triggering Frankincense’s romance is to pick the option that allows the MC and Frank to already have a previous relationship before they arrive in Ritornello. That should steer their relationship bar up and also make the relationship checks a bit easier to go through.

But there are other things that can smooth the path towards the romance, even if you’re set on having them meeting as acquaintances or enemies for RP purposes. Generally, I think spending time with Rory and Frankincense during the foxhunt will give you more chances to trigger the romance (and also to bring Rory and Frankincense further apart, if you want). Spending time in the hunt probably means that you won’t have time to do the Inncer Circle missions, but the story’s like that, there’s only so much one can do in one go-around. Anyway, hope it helps!

How can I get Figs and Mopsie to elope? It’s one of the possible choices when setting up Cakes & Ale, but I can’t seem to actually achieve it in this game. Thanks in advance if anyone can help
