@Shoelip I didn’t sorry to say but in my defense I had just gotten off work and was too tired to read through them
Found a typo -" You are one of a twelve pro-gamers that have been selected to Alpha-test the corporation’s next VR." You would either replace the “a” with the word “the” or just remove it altogether.
@NatetheGreat Thanks! And great name! Yeah I think originally it was “one of a group of twelve” but I thought it was redundant.
This is amaaaziiiiiing!!!
@CitizenShawn I think you should provide a bonus for the different body types. If Anreal is supposed to be a realistic simulation, the abilities of the avatar should be affected by their physique.
Is the uncategorized gander something very common and legaly acknowleged in your gameworld or is it just a personal quirk of the MC, and will it matter later when it comes to romance? If yes, you should allow it both for the real body and for the avatar, otherwise it might be better to leave it out for both and keep a binary gender for both bodies like in most other games.
I don’t know how to code it either, but some other WIPs, including When in Rome by @Caroline and Choice of Rebels by @Havenstone have this option, I’m sure they can help you if you ask.
You might give them some money for the beginning, or allow them to sell some of their original weapons or armor to the blacksmith and buy something new instead.
OK, if he’s upposed to be so intimidating that the average MC should be frightened to attack him, you should make it clear in-game. And an unwinnable fight also sounds like a godd idea for me.
I think it would be fun to play a buff wizard, fat rogue or scrawny warrior. It would be most amusing to see a scrawny warrior lifting a sword twice his/her size or a fat rogue trying to stealth through a crowded room. Can’t forget the buff wizard that strips down to their undies to use blind “magic” on the enemy.
If you do allow non-binary gender for the player but not for the character it would be more realistic, but that’s about the only benefit. Maybe you could have some other character or you own possibly take issue with it at a few points during the game.
@Xhandas Thanks a lot! I’m really glad you liked it!
@WulfyK I’m actually going to retool the combat system to make it quicker/a little more high risk. So there’s probably going to be some room for body type bonuses, but I think I might need to add more than four body types, don’t you think?
Uncategorized genders aren’t a part of Sovereign’s game world because I don’t think that a majority of NPC AIs would accept just “a third gender” as part of their reality. It might work in Knights of Sidonia, but I think there are limits to what a pre-scientific culture could embrace. They’d either be outcasts or prophetical leaders, I feel like. The simulation is meant to simulate “human life” so you might get some people that want to be classified as another gender than they were born, just like real life, but no fantastical make-believe genderless Ken-Doll.
Yeah I’ll definitely make Aurelius more intimidating.
@Outrageous I agree, that would be funny! I just feel like it would be really easy to max out your stats by focusing on a magic class and then choosing all of the Strength and Dexterity building extras. It would be fun coding in some funny descriptions for “other body types” though xD
@Shoelip I agree, I think I might want to go for realism. I suppose you could design your avatar to LOOK gender neutral, but it’s just personal preference at that point. Maybe I’ll provide the option for a “nonspecific” avatar gender that happens to look “in between.” But you don’t really care whether the avatar is male or female.
QUESTION: I heard that the combat was a little static and too long. Do you think that’s true? Should I make the combat quicker?
Reminds me of SAO. Soo badass haha. Keep up the good work! :ar!
The problem with trying to be realistic about gender issues is that realistically, people have issues with gender. One thing is that you have to separate gender and sex. Androgynous people are not hermaphrodites. If you’re going to try to be realistic about it though, then some people will judge you for this. Especially since this being a game, you made the choice yourself. You could say easily enough that the NPCs don’t have any sort of problem with it, I suppose. But it’d be implausible for a group of people from our society, especially one as attractive to extreme personalities as the world of internet gaming, to not have a few people with some issues. And it’d also be a missed opportunity.
I’m support more body types and varying stats for them, I’m always in favor of more choices.
I think you could make combat quicker, though maybe it only seems long because of Flurry’s defensive fighting style. Since he’s the one who wants the fight, it would be better to make him fight more aggressively.
Could you then explain what uncategorized gender exactly means in this game? It would help if we all knew what you had in mind when writing this as me or some others might have quite different definitions.
“The thought makes me kind of nervous, but how else am I going rebuild your family’s wealth?”
“your family” should be “my family”
“Huh?” Cory sputters in astonishment. “Why do want to help?”
there should be a “you” between “do” and “want”
“What they don’t know won’t hurt them, right? You”
you what?
ps. I love this game so far, although i’m finding that(so far at least)the companions all have the same script and that if you choose to go solo that the PC says their dialogue instead.
is that just for the beginning of the game? or just for this stage of the demo making process? if it’s neither then i would suggest either giving them distinct personalities/dialogue or to trim them down to just Cory(as an example) and add the option to pick his class.
also i love the option to lie about who you are when in the game. it adds an extra layer to it.it’s also fun(ny) to play as a guy playing as a girl(or vice versa)
@WulfyK Yeah, I’m sorry I’m very pro-“Do whatever you want” but I have no idea what to say if someone tells me they are “not a boy and not a girl.” I honestly just put it in there because I saw that a few other WIPs had that option and CoG likes to be open to players of all situations/preferences/persuasions/whatever. So I’m not trying to be insensitive but it’s really hard to come up with options for “boys” options for “girls” and then a whole third option for people who just didn’t pick one. So that’s why it is the way it is right now.
@AdamGoodtime Thanks! Helpful typos, three points! Actually the last one is just where I stopped writing the conversation and I guess I forgot to go back and add more! Yeah, the dialogue kind of just throws your companion in and if you’re alone replaces you. I will add more companion-specific dialogue in the future, such as romancing and such, but I thought it worked out alright with the game so far. With a finished game I don’t think people will realize it as much because they aren’t restarting after only a few choices.
But don’t worry, there will be companion-specific options later on! Their class matters too in how they can help you accomplish certain missions. But yeah, I took the semi-easy way out by making the dialogue pretty ambiguous.
I like the combat. leave it alone ;p
@CitizenShawn: On the gender topic, you could possibly have both mental and a physical gender. That would mostly cover transgenderism, and having the current “Undecided” option as a mental gender would cover some other options. Loving the demo, by the way, the concept is great.
@Zolo999 I know, right? I liked it too. But it could always be better.
@SteampunkNinja Yeah I might go with something like that. But in reality if you choose something like that, I’m just going to turn all the romances on so you can romance whoever you want, so it’s something that can wait till the end, I think.
@SteampunkNinja The word for physical gender is sex. Mental gender is just gender. Although really the line between physical and mental isn’t exactly a line so much as a blurry area.
Takira morimoto…American is not a race. what are they mixed with? are they part white? black? Mexican-american?
and I can’t select certain options
race 2
noun
each of the major divisions of humankind, having distinct physical characteristics : people of all races, colors, and creeds.
• a group of people sharing the same culture, history, language, etc.; an ethnic group : we Scots were a bloodthirsty race then
(above was taken from my computers dictionary)
American is a race,as is Canadian,Japanese,Russian,Italian,etc.
race can mean either country of birth or skin colour(Caucasian,Asian,Hispanic,African)
there’s probably a word to differentiate the two meanings, but a have no idea what it is.
