It’s already interesting
, if putting a sword so close to my neck wasn’t an interesting first impression, I don’t know what it is…
Love the use of the color mechanic in thr beginning, really caught me off gaurd
I’m also interested in beating him into submission! Destroying his ego would be fun! maniacal laugh I like Isra but conquering Michael is my true calling! wipes drool I hope the creator allows it.
Queues mental image of our Gabriels going all dominatrix on him
Poor Michael wouldn’t be able to sit for a week afterwards! And to add insult to injury then my Gab would have to nurse him back to health because she’s the healer of the group. Pfahaha! My Gab is a stoic-healer with a perpetual resting b**** face and a mischievous, almost sadistic side to her… makes for an interesting angel. I think we might be able to give Lucifer a run for his money. :3 That said I doubt the author is going to include such things… but its fun to dream!
Oh boy. I almost feel sorry for Michael.
Ah, who am I kidding, the prick deserves it.
I see a pattern here!~ Are all healer Gabriel sadists?? We should have a poll or something to determine how common it is.
Having to deal with a bunch of n00b fledglings day in and day out, hearing them cry, moan and snore as they heal and occasionally clean up their vomit and bio wastes… I think our Gabs have the right to be edgy. Plus there’s nothing more boring than catering to stereotypes, in this case the innocent, pure and caring healer. At least this way they’ll try their damnedest to stay alive and well during battles.
I don’t know. Sometimes it’s fun to grab a stereotype and play it to the hilt. Like the classic Bond villain. Sure you’re genre blind beyond belief but you’ll have so much fun in that volcano lair.
…I hate to say it, (much less think it) but I think what you really mean is… Give Lilith a run for her money.
@SweetScarlet
Thanks! I know it’s not for everyone, so you can toggle it off in the stats screen, but I’m glad to see you like it!
@Bierry1
There may be a consolation group forming… but don’t worry, there’ll still be plenty of Lucifer moments (just not of the romance variety)
@Ailef
Well, conquering wasn’t quite the way I imagined it, but there will be something along these lines.
@IvoryOwl
It depends on how much time you spend with Iro… she has a few tips and tricks she might be willing to share.
And I’ll certainly try to make sure that there are some kick-a** healer builds who don’t take sh*t from anyone.
@silent15
It is fun to play certain stereotypes for sure! ((I’m actually planning on having an achievement or two for playing certain archetypes))
@COGZealot
And I would dare say give Iro a run for her money. Lilith just wants Gabriel’s wings on her wall.
My main complaint is that the game is filled with large blocks of exposition and dialogue that give the player little opportunity to interact. I would suggest being more concise and trimming the fat, so to speak. Avoid lengthy dialogue or other situations including Gabriel in which the player is largely unable to choose their response.
As an example I favor an “enforcer” Gabriel; stoic, ruthless, zealous and dutiful. He decides the best course of action is to kill Daniel because he is Satanspawn and he sees it as his duty to do so. Although the text implies he has regret, he would not, because he is simply doing what must be done. If Gabriel is an extension of the player then it is important that you don’t make assumptions of what the player feels - the great thing about IF is they can make that choice themselves.
Of course it may just be I like things a certain way, so take this with a grain of salt.
It’s just the thoughts I had when I finished playing the update and thought “WTH Gabriel!!! Stop smiling all the time you’re supposed to be stoic and forbidding!”
I’m afraid I’m going to have to disagree with you here. If you eliminate every chance for written in reactions, then you end up with a horribly blank character with no real personality to speak of.
Surrendering a certain degree of character control to the author is not always a bad thing. Look at Samurai of Hyuga for example. Because a certain degree of control about characterisation is taken out of our hands, the PC has a much stronger and more memorable personality than otherwise. And it goes further than this. If a certain degree of characterisation is preset, then it becomes possible to have more believable relationships between characters as they don’t have to keep it generic enough to accommodate all possible personalities
For a triple A example compare and contrast the protagonists of the Witcher and Mass Effect. Shepard never really has a personality beyond the broadest strokes due to the need to keep the dialogue neutral enough to accommodate different playstyles. Whereas Geralt has pre-existing characterisation for the most part, while still leaving room for us to fine tune it to our liking. With Shepard you could never have the tempestuous relationship that Geralt has with Yennifer, as it depends on their specific personalties clashing in interesting ways.
I’m not saying to eliminate every chance for written in reactions. I’m saying less of that and more choices. If a PC has too much of a mind of their own then it undermines the “interactive” part of interactive fiction.
In general, I agree with @Sneaks although with this work, we are still just beginning the story and the contextual conflict needed to be given asap.
I do think Daniel is sort of rail-roaded - but if he wasn’t then the story would be over before it began. Yet, @Sneaks’ observation about anything but a nurturing attitude towards Daniel seemingly only there for fluff is spot on.
oh, and my Gabriel is the speedster stealthy scout type… usually me and @Sneaks are reversed in our MC characters, so this is very amusing to me.
But wouldn’t that create too many variables, some of which would outright conflict with the direction of the story? If we were allowed to kill Daniel then two things could happen: an enormous divine war between angels and demons because the kid was basically Lucifer’s grandson… or the story ends. If killing a character causes a game-over then what is the point of having that choice to begin with? I call those “false” choices because they’re nothing more than fillers that give people the impression of “freedom” but in truth lead to nowhere.
I think by the end of the day it all depends on how much work the author is willing to put into it. I personally can’t even grasp the difficulty in writing an entire neutral-toned story just so nothing steps over the people’s choices in terms of their MC’s personality. At the end of the day we’re all being funneled through a story so certain things have to be rail-roaded for the sake of it.
I think it’s been mentioned that Lucifer has had several offspring since he fell so Daniel isn’t unique in that respect so going to war over that would be pointless plus God really doesn’t want you to kill Daniel.
Not really talking about being able to kill Daniel. In context with my Gabriel he is zealously loyal, he got an order from God to protect the boy and so he will lay down his life to do so. Understandably other Gabriels don’t have a choice in the matter. God’s word is absolute.
But I think the different ways any given Gabriel can feel about the whole situation needs to be better represented.
pah! Double bladed battle axe all the way! My Gabe is a flying brick! ![]()
I can’t help but agree with that. I’ve created my character with a morningstar so that i could get a feeling of hatred from the MC towards Lucifer’s arrogance and downfall. My Gabriel wouldn’t smile when talking with Daniel, even tho he would be merciful, he isn’t the cheerful character.
He’s more of an idealist, a depressed idealist.[quote=“Sneaks, post:303, topic:15298”]

My Gabriel is more like a sorcerer, with his Holy Fire destroying everything while he shouts Explosion.
(Note that the catchphrase may change with time, it just happened to be Explosion with an epic voice.)
Sooo… your Gabriel is a Nokia 3310? Impervious to all sorts of damaged known to mankind and divinity alike?

When he falls, the floor doesn’t break him…he breaks the floor
