SoS: The Mortal Coil (WIP)

Looking forward to meeting Sabriel the most. I always had a soft spot for Auriel in Diablo, so hopefully she’ll expand on that for me.

Darn, can’t romance Lucifer. I guess my first Gabriel will just spend all of his whole time trying to get/stay on his good side. X>

Just finished reading the update and I love it…i mean a can be a Medic wielding a battle-axe that’s really awesome…good job…

Looking foward to the next update…

@Alder
I’m glad this feels like a different version! I will say though that he still can be very arrogant and manipulative, but I think his reasonings are very different from most portrayals of Lucifer.

@readher
I’m excited for everyone to meet Sabriel, especially since she is not a fan of Gabriel at first. Auriel is a separate character from Sabriel but she too does exist in this world (anyone catch the story with her in their playthrough?)

@Littleprince
It’s easier than you think, I can promise you that! (And oy vey, for his whole three seconds of screen time Lucifer really seems to be stealing people’s hearts)

@Rakkun
I’m so happy to see people trying out some of the stranger pairings for the intro! The one thing I really wanted to stay away from with this game was doing too much railroading in the beginning with weapons and personality/battle preferences. That being said, if anyone encounters a passage they think feels really discordant for their weapon and attack preference, please drop a note.

And while I have no ETA on the next update (other than soonish) there is a scene about Lilith and Lucifer and what they’re doing while you are fighting demons up on the tumblr if you want something to tide you over

I’m screaming!!! I’ve been on a college visit in California almost all week! I come back and my angel baby has more storyline? I’m throwing myself into this masterpiece at 5:30 A.M. and I’ll report back if I don’t pass out first.

Haha, oh my gosh, @Dae-kalina. Iain’s just going to be that fed up guy asking what on Earth he did to warrant getting paired up with the weird new guy, isn’t he? Loved the li’l interview excerpt, hehe. :blush: Also, I’m only assuming Gabriel might come off as a li’l weird considering their experience with humans is probably limited, but… then again, my shadowboxing Gabriel doesn’t seem to be socially awkward so I might not have to worry about that. :stuck_out_tongue:

…I must read that.

Well in my playthrough, those three seconds consisted of him saving me from being eaten by a monster, showing a lot of interest in me, and sharing an… intimate moment… :blush:

Are you really surprised? :stuck_out_tongue:

@Dae-kalina In terms of power level are Archdemons weaker than Archangels?

Sorry if it already been asked but has it been revealed why Gabriel was selected to become a archangel

@Dae-kalina I just read the tumbler excerpt for what was going on with dear old Lucy and Lil. Oh my gosh, Lucifer’s reaction to Lilith threatening Gabriel! It just confirms my head cannon that Lucifer is Gabriel’s father (been convinced of it since I read that one post you did in the blog on Angel relationships) And that Lucifer really wanted to be a doting, overprotective daddy but the social construct and his position in Heaven didn’t necessarily let him. Cause oh my gosh! The man had a panic attack over the THOUGHT of anything happening to Gabriel. (I am probably way off track but a little itty, bitty fluffy part of my soul hopes it’s true on some level.) Let alone I like a glimpse of what might be our biggest threat, and possibility that Lucifer isn’t our true bad guy in this story. (Maybe a really dark grey on morality scale?) I’m just saying you spoil me with this! I’m too excited now.

Cause I really want to do a playthrough with a fluffy Gabriel who is magic flinging medic and a doting little ‘aunt’/Guardian, a big sap and secretly loves hugs. I’m loving testing all the mixes on the weapons and tactics. (then do the complete opposite. I like to see all the possibilities my first playthorughs are always the emotional, slightly awkward does what they think is right and sappy.) Though, yeah, okay, enough rambling. I’m just so excited.

Sleep is good, my friend :sweat_smile:

@Lithophene
Neither Alice nor Iain are thrilled by their partnership being split up, but they don’t blame Gabriel for that (much… there’s a little ribbing). They rightfully blame their boss, but neither is particularly inclined to complain about it to his face as they like their jobs, thank you very much. And Gabriel will have some idiosyncrasies especially when it comes to more mundane tasks like doing paperwork, anything to do with tech at first, and a few other things. Hence Sabriel assigns you Manuel to assist you on things like paperwork so you don’t bungle it too badly. For purely social interactions though, it is not Gabriel’s first time blending in with humans and basic human behavior doesn’t change that much over the centuries (though hygiene most definitely does).

As for the excerpt/ Behind the scenes, I would love to know if y’all like that kind of stuff or if you would prefer to read the story as is without those (I’ve been toying with the idea of making a collectables tab under the stats screen where you can unlock extras like the interview or the behind the scenes with Lucifer and Lilith as part of the achievement system)

@KuraiHeka
Actually, I am a little surprised. Some of the first people who played through that bit were sitting there and going “look at Lucifer, already trying to tempt you to do something out of the ordinary.” Of course, that wasn’t the point of that whole scene, but that was one of the first impressions I encountered of Lucifer. So it was interesting to see how many people responded to him with excitement.

@avidreader
Archdemons are not weaker than archangels. However, there is a bias from Fallen/Lucifer and angels that archdemons are weaker because angels were created/descended from being created by God and filled with divine power, while demons of all classes were once human, and humans are flawed. So that question in the Behind the Scenes where Lucifer asks Lilith if she thinks she can take on an archangel and live is really coming from Lucifer’s hubris.

@Crater18
No, this has not been revealed. It’s not actually a huge part of the story. Gabriel and their closest siblings were all made into archangels (Ramiel, Israfel, and Michael). Not all angels are created equal. These four had more power than most angels and also learned how to fight better than most, so they were promoted. (Or in terms of an omniscient omnipotent God, they were destined to be archangels from their creation).

@AngelOfTheBroken

I’m sure there’s quite a few people that would agree with your head canon… but I’m still not denying or confirming anything. But for sure Lucifer is not the true bad guy in the story. There’s no one big bad guy, but several. You’ll have to fight against an alliance of people, not matter which side you choose. I would say that Lucifer is definitely a dark grey on the morality scale. He isn’t straight up evil for sure, but he also has few qualms about doing whatever he feels is needed to serve his interests, whatever they may be. He’s already been kicked out of Heaven, so he does not have that much to lose.

LOL, yeah I’ve started to notice, and I would never expect you too. You are too good at keeping us guessing. (and half the fun of headcanon is the guessing ;D )

and that I appreciate, that’s the sign of a truly complex and divers story. It would give plenty incentive to do multiple run through. (and you know miss sleep to do it. I appreciate that depiction you are doing of him as well. Yeah was not expecting him to be rainbows and Puppies, but since the opening, I for sure do not expect you to put him a stereotype. I’m really excited to see how you will play with that line, as well as you will write moral gray areas and characters.

I personally would love that. I honestly really enjoyed what you have done so far in that regard. It’s great insight into the characters and conflicts.

Don’t mean to be that guy but cannon and canon are two different words that mean two different things and people shouldn’t use them interchangeably. :stuck_out_tongue:

@Dae-kalina I’m curious,what happened to the Archangels Gabriel and their siblings replaced we know Lucifer fell what about the others?

I hope that doesn’t mean Gabriel’s going to forget to shower. :joy: Glad to hear Gabriel won’t be socially stunted though. That tends to be a trope that gets played out a lot with angels, hence why I was wondering if that’s how it was going to be here. Gimme the wit, @Dae-kalina. Just gimme it. :wink:

Whooopsy, didn’t even realize that was the wrong way to write it. Thanks for the catch. :slight_smile:

I have a question regarding the angels that are gonna appear in the game

Are characters like Sariel and Metatron going to appear in the story at some point?
Cause if they do, I feel like my Gabriel is gonna have a really ‘Nice’ relationship with them ^^

And, did anyone ever think of having Lucifer and Satan as completely different people? Like having Satan be the Angels’ ultimate weapon if they are about to lose a war with another faction

@avidreader
Several other archangels fell, joining Lucifer in becoming Fallen. The rest of that era more or less ‘retired’… ie, since they couldn’t even keep one of their own in check, they were replaced with a new generation. They are still around, but took different roles in the operation of Heaven.

@Lithophene
No, Gabriel won’t forget to shower :smile: There are some socially stunted angels, but archangels have all spent some time among humans so they have more experience than the angels who rarely leave heaven.

@WhiteLynx
Some of them have cameo appearances but they are not principal characters. But I will say that Gabriel can get to pull rank on some of them if you’re looking for ‘nice’ relationship ^^ (assuming you don’t go to the hell side… then there’s a bunch of angels that you can kill off

And as for the Lucifer/Satan thing, Lucifer isn’t actually Satan. Satan existed before Lucifer Fell, but it was a name he assumed/was given after he Fell. You’ll come to find out though that Satan is actually a whole different person who will be appearing later in the story.

According to what I’ve read Satan is either the personification of evil or a servant of God, depending on which mythology you subscribe to. And Satan is more of a job title than a name, the “job” being “pick on the lowly humans”.

So while Christian mythology considers Satan and Lucifer to be synonymous, many people consider them separate figures.

Don’t know how relevant that is to this game though
