While we’re on the topic of age. The “official” artwork :
While it is left to interpretation (l know that many hate to do that but let’s pretend this picture is canon), we can clearly see that Masami is young but not truly a child, more like late adolescence 15-early17 (watch the length of her fingers and angles of her face, they look more like that of a really young aldult than that of a child), and MC while looking older is still young, the relative smoothness of his face (and manly chest) and traits, and sheer quantity of hair on his head make it hard to believe that he could be any older than thirty, it seems more like he’s in his twenties.
Remember that this is pure speculations brought by pretending that what we see on this picture is representative the in-game characters. My analysis of the picture could be flawed in some points, so don’t hesitate to contradict said points.
Well based on the picture i could see him as late 20’s all the way up to maybe 33 considering the assumed time period
And masami to be likely be between 15 and 18 considering upbringing that look could fit a 20 year old but were told not a adult i think so id agree 15 to 17. Based on the culture and timeperiod that is marriageable age is it not?
Edit: never understood why this became a topic that was debated on
Because we need something to speculate on while waiting for the sequel to be fully written and released maybe.
To me the mc in the artwork looks early thirties and while I’m not all that good at judging girls I’d say 15 at most and do take into account that girls develop faster than boys at that age (mostly).
Well shit happens. I think it begun when someone asked whether Masami/shi would be a RO or not.[quote=“Drakeye, post:127, topic:18381”]
that is marriageable age is it not?

Hells yes. At that age (in Japan) most have already been “sold off” (arranged marriage) to often much older husbands.
yea i thought so was under understanding that usually started off at about 14 that it was official but, promised at a earlier age. i understand now romance issues and potential discomfort from cultures not used to it (personally just ignoring it and taking it from a Rp perspective as a character from that culture) thank you for clarifing
Ooh I can’t bring myself to do that, I’m waiting for part two to be finished so I can do a straight playthrough in one go.
Definitely clearing out an afternoon for that.
Unless Hyuga has gay marriage that tidbit of info is useless for me. So how about it @MultipleChoice will male characters ever get the chance to propose to our cute Kondo and sweep him off his feet? (something my character has wanted to do ever since he saw Toshio put on that far too hot and sexy groom show in the beginning)?
As for Masashi while my character has become crazy protective of the boy (not that he’ll ever admit it) he views him more as the younger brother and family he’s (secretly) always wanted but never had.
It also helps that the playful banter between them makes them feel more like crazy brothers/family who can say that sort of stuff with impunity to one another (it helps that the kid despite his age gives almost as good as he gets) than lovers to me.
Though if the series either goes on long enough or a magical age-up does happen to our young charge maybe I’ll be tempted to make a second character who sees those things differently.
I’ve never read a C.o.G before that’s felt quite like an anime until I found this series. I’ve seen many different tales spun throughout the last few years but this one in particular has really stood out. Given how your other games have gone, I take it this game will be released next Tuesday since you write like you can’t stop.
I love this demo and I love your books. All in all I believe this sums up my feelings quite well : Shut up and take my money.
After nearly a year of waiting, I’m glad the demo is finally out. Can’t wait for book 2!
For the characters’ ages, in my headcanon, my MC and Jun are about 25 years old, with Toshio, Hatch, and Momoko about the same age, if not a year or so younger. Masashi is around 14-15.
I really liked the encounter with Jun and the little bits of information and backstory we get. Like wow, punishing little kids for playing pretend? Sensei was much more…harsh than I originally believed. Jun is one of the characters I’m most interested in interacting with/learning about, with the other being Toshio. There’s just something about that intensity…
Also, isn’t Hatch illiterate? If so, how was he able to tell that the mark that Jun carved into the MC’s flesh was the word “pure”? Is it correct to assume that Jun is literate, seeing how he was able to ‘write’ it in the first place?
Amazing game! Beautiful absolutely beautiful demo!!! Can’t wait for the full version! The first one is my favorite when it comes to “Choice of” games!!!

Unfortunately same-sex marriage was deconfirmed in Book 1, Chapter 1:
If I hadn’t been entirely sure what the kanji—the fancy written characters—for ‘Akiyama’ were, I was now. Two men wearing green robes had the words littered all over them. They’d even have it written atop their faces if tattoos weren’t decidedly yakuza. They may not have belonged to a crime syndicate, but they didn’t seem to be nobles either.
Oh, and unless the country of Hyuga had grown radically progressive in recent months, these two guys weren’t the parents we were looking for.
I imagine arranged marriages are very common in Hyuga, even if attraction isn’t there. In any case, MC is more likely to hang around the open bar than walk down the wedding aisle!
@Razgriz
Thanks for the compliment! Animes are so good at being serious one moment and going silly the next. I think the key to doing that is really to plan out all your big drama scenes in the outlining phase.

I liked the demo but the chess scene was the worst scene I have been playing in Cog ever. It has killed my role play character. And I didn’t understand nothing about what the hell was happening. Scene is forced and choices has no sense in Character. I just ended pushing random buttons to win. However writing , flow and humour still being wonderful. I maybe miss more evilness responses If the guy would bought a soy armour. My character would menacing him or throwing the armour over him. Or just making him promise a part of his sharing in the Emperor’s reward. My girl is in this for the cute red panda and money The rest could go to hell for all she cares.
