Samurai of Hyuga Book 2 Demo

MC’s Early 30s.: Their childhood was crap, their teen years were spent with Jun and their master training, 20s was the ronin stage with plenty of wetwork, and now that they’ve hit their 30s they’re looking to turn over a new leaf.

Toshi: 29-30. Maybe it’s the unreliable narrator, but everything seems as though everyone is younger than them. Maybe it’s a pride thing, but Toshi is still the most mature of them all, and definitely the closest to the MCs age.

Momoko and Hatch? Mid twenties, I’m almost positive.

And Masa-chan, personally, is 17 3/4, though realistically is probably in the range of 15-19.

My personal headcanon:

MC: 27. Why such a specific age? Numbers ending in 7 are my favorite numbers. And lucky number 7!
Jun: Around the same age as the MC, if not one or two years older.
Masashi: 14-18
Toshio: Mid to late 20s.
Hatch: Early 20s, probably
Momoko: Late 20s, early 30s at the most

Like the others, I always presumed the MC was in her late twenties or early thirties, and that Jun, Toshio, Momoko, and Hatch were all about the same age? Hatch might be a bit younger, and Jun might be a bit older. Masashi I feel like is prolly in his early teens, though I can imagine him somewhere between 12-16.

Is that said outright or just with the general description (the prepubescent part)? I do know that they are specifically called a “minor” by the MC in the beginning if you choose to follow them when they try to sneak out from the inn, in the beginning, and the MC feels kind of unsettled by pretty much “stalking after a minor in the middle of the night”..

“Hmph, I’m not sure how you can stand that bile! We’re in one of the finest chashitsu in the Capital, which serves the highest-grade tea around. Can’t you at least pretend to appreciate it?” That buzzing, pre-pubescent and presumptuous voice belonged to none other than my tiny traveling partner. Lucky me.

On the first page of the game.

Hmm, and it seems the MC is older than I would have thought. Replaying the game, the samurai angry about the MC eating his grandfather called him an “old man,” and later the MC thinks to himself “I was a young man a life time ago.”

Yes, but that’s all highly subjective, like I said I think his clothes and largely uncared for appearance make the mc look up to 10 years or so older than he really is. It’s the mc’s hobo lifestyle that makes him look older to me and certainly to a pampered capital city samurai.

Also everything that the MC has gone through probably added to it. Stress and trauma can do a lot of thing to your body, even make you look and feel older than you are.

Certainly, that said I envision my mc as a hobo who’d clean up very nicely. Who knows maybe all that attunement with our spirit has a (mild) rejuvenating effect on our body.

I think if anything my Akita inu would prefer to bite me than help me

I saw that too, but they’re describing Masami’s voice, not the person themselves. They can have a young, shrill-sounding voice and still be in their teens. (Though I admit that, since Masami was always female in my games, it might sound different if we’re talking about a boy, what with their voice getting significantly deeper once they hit puberty.)

First of all: I am super excited to see that Book 2 of one of my favorite games is being worked on! I can’t wait to see what happens in this one.

Second: On the subject of everyone’s age, I pictured my MC to be in their mid/late twenties to early thirties, like a lot of others. If I had to pick a number, I’d say 27/28, probably. I always thought Jun/Junko was the same age as the MC. As for Momoko and Hatch, I imagined them being around 24/25 years old? I don’t think I ever thought about how old Toshio is, actually. Probably in between Momoko/Hatch and the MC. Masami/Masashi’s descriptions always made me think of them as 10-12 years old.

I really loved the demo.

In relation to the ages of the characters it’s funny how we all put different numbers to it.
When I play I go for something like this:

  • MC: 32 years
  • Masashi: 13-15 years.
  • Toshio: I always imagine her as having something in the house of 25-27 years.
  • Hatch: 23-25
  • Momoko: 28-30

wow this is awesome! I loved the first part and the 2nd one looks more awesome! Can’t wait!

I always pictured my MC being between 20-25. Masami 15-16, momoko/hatch/toshie around the MC’s age but younger. I think Masami looks younger than she is because of her childish personalty (and Also because I secretly wish she’ll be a RO one day ) and the MC looking older because of the lack of care to the way they look and Also due to their gruffy seen-it-all-kid veteran personalty.

I’m actually really excited for this one. I read the first book and I felt like it was cut short. I had to reply book 1 to remember the story haha. I really wish Toshiovis an RO or even the Emperor (haha) imagine this grisly ronin marrying the imperial emperor, nasty. Anyway, I look forward to the official release of book 2 goodluck! (I also hope that there’s an option to kill Jun)

I’ve seen alot of comments regarding Masami/Masashi and how old they (supposedly) are, so I decided to do a little research about it. My conclusion is that they are around 14 to 15 years old. Why? Because the “coming of age”-ceremony in Japan known as Genpuku is celebrated at the beginning of a child’s 15th year, and in feudal Japan it was celebrated (for boys at least, I couldn’t find any information for females) between the ages of 15-17. Only then were boys considered to be men.
This would explain why Masami/Masashi is regarded as a child, but also their personality, why they seem quite aware of sexual relations (such as the brothel-dialogue in the first game, and their crush on the Emperor) and why they can act very sensitive and immature in many parts of the story. It also fits in with the MCs “dream-sequence” or whatever, as people usually don’t stop maturing until their 20’s, and the physical difference between the present Masami/Masashi and the future one would still be very noticeable.

Idk, it’s just my theory, but I think it still makes quite some sense. Or maybe I’m just trying to find reasons to belive Masami/Masashi isn’t some prepubescent kid…

I’ve been really enjoying the previous book and this demo. Can’t wait for it!
About the ages of the characters, I feel like Masashi is too young to be pursuing a relationship
for my MC, but not too young that it’s okay to be making all sorts of perverted, flirtatious jokes.

In my headcanon, my MC’s about 25-28 years old, and Jun’s in the same age range. As for our charge, I’ll use the “half-your-age-plus-seven” strategy. (Yeah, that’s usually used for today’s society, but the game’s being written by someone in today’s society, so whatever)
26.5/2 = 13.25+7=20.25.

But, if Masashi’s a sizable younger than the MC, I demote his age by 5—making him about 14 or 15 years. That’s also usually the most delayed puberty can start.

For Toshi, seeing as he’s clearly mature and an adult, but still somewhat naive and inexperienced, so I’ll say he’s maybe 19-21 years of age, give or take a year. Then again, I could be wrong, but he, along with Hatch, is a bit hard to pin down.

Hatch is by my guess, probably 23-25. He’s clearly been to enough bars and taverns to be practically engaged to alcohol, but still has the ‘I-can-do-anything’ spirit in him that a lot of young adults have. You know, ‘Nothing-can-stop-me-now’ attitude and such.

Momoko’s a nurse, so I’m guessing 24. I really can’t say much about my reasoning, but that’s how I feel about doctor-y characters.

Overall:

  • MC: 25-28
  • Jun: 25-28, maybe a year older
  • Masashi: 14-15
  • Toshi: 19-21, maybe a year older or younger
  • Hatch: 23-25
  • Momoko: 24

I got the impression that Masashi/Masami was around 11-13 years old, the MC being 26-28. Toshio to be roughly around the same age or older as MC, whereas Momoko and Hatch, a year younger.

On the other hand, having a perverted trait during Jun scene was kind of weird.
Maybe I’m just turned off pfft
