@zilla they could end up taking the world over though.

It would be a bleak existence for those who are not fond of cats. It would break the balance of the universe.

You just gave me a very large and scaly idea.
There will be Dragons! (i feel that deserves more exclamation)
! ! ! ! ! ! !
But not as you know them. . .
That pic just made[quote=“Silhuetta, post:201, topic:16190”]

my day. . .
@nightcap, I can’t wait.
Hopefully we’ll be able to be dragons. Or have one follow us around as a sidekick.
Apologies everyone - I deleted and flagged (at least it made me think about offence rules and I got to practice flagging) tho I expect self-'flag’elation is frowned on too. So much to learn.
This is more what I was picturing in my head anyway. . much. . bigger

To answer your question of the day deserted, magical, foreat-city.
EDIT - i have no idea why that comment just got so big.
Anyhoo, I’m thinking:
= Dragons - so - I actually originally wanted to write a ‘low fantasy’ (despite my partner being nuts on the higher kind)
Why? I have this weird thing about reading fiction with superpowers. Magic or the other kind. I still massively enjoyed @Lucid’s Life of a Wizard, and Zachary Sergi’s Heroes Project. They may even have converted me!
But the point is I had/have this idea that superpowers exclude people. It felt like - if things are hard or go wrong then normal people have no business being the heroes. Magic and superpowers are in your blood - like monarchy. (That’s actually why I wrote ‘The Aegis Saga - Blood’ as a bloodright to power drama where anyone might be king (or queen).)
The idea that unless you’re ‘destined’ to be a winner, you are background, just. . pissed me off.
Does anyone get that?
Meanwhile my partner, who loves dragons and magic and superpowers, is forever waiting for Superman
And I find myself putting magic into Aegis so she’ll enjoy it, to try to be superman. . .
What a guy will do to impress
DAY 5 update.
So, we’re a third of the way through the period I set to release the beta. I have now uploaded version 2 of the demo, meaning I think it’s polished enough for now for me to focus on the remaining story.
(it is still minus a ‘Lore’ mechanism in the stats section, thanks @TheTrueKing, @trinnie for driving this improvement)
Yes, that means to stay on track, I have to get the rest up to scratch in under 10 days. . .
Is it possible? Maybe, but if I want to compete in the 4th Annual Choicescript Competition I need to be done in 23.
= the main issue =
the demo is 56,000 words long
the remaining story, ex the first 4 chapters, is 280,000
5 days in and you lot have created a bit of buzz. Never in a million years did I think by this time the thread would have 3026 views, and eight hundred and eighty eight uses of the demo link. Thank you all so much for helping raise such interest in the progress of ‘The Aegis Saga - Blood’.
On the ‘Question of the Day’ front, over the last couple of days you helped me learn about ways to address info-dump. And @Zilla, @Silhuetta and @vampierkid222 helped me prepare for upcoming 4th Annual CSComp by getting the creative juices sloshing on ‘setting’. Tune in next time for another.
Wish me luck,
don’t be strangers
and never stop thinking:
weirdness will never be the new black - but I’m damned if I’m gonna stop wearing it
@nightcap Ok, one last question about your CS Comp. Really. I promise.
So, considering that dragons normally tend to be huge fire-breathing beasts that can destroy pretty much EVERYTHING, will the human to beast ratio be low? You could make weaker dragons that aren’t as deadly, as a way to balance the system. I dunno, just throwing out some suggestions. I’m already getting so excited
Aaaand I’m gonna stop myself before I get off track here.
Anyway, keep up the good work!
Mornin, @Silhuetta,
That. just. gave me an idea.
I actually have another race, already present elsewhere on the world - others call them the Arantians. They call themselves ‘Kvarieva’ or the remnant.
Their state of being (it’s not by any means a purely physical trait) is called ‘Sjkell’, a variation on the Nordic skjell - scaly, and they are deeply connected to the way ‘glyf’ (magic) manifests on Eris.
I’m sensing a really interesting link could be made between them and -the- Bowyard dragon (a dragon the size of a - well, a leviathan - dragiathan!) - need better word
@Silhuetta has just helped pick our Question of the Day
We’re examining:
“dragons and dragonlings - what are your thoughts on writing about symbiotic, subordinate or parasitic relationships?” - 08/04/16 - I’m thinking about populating Eris for @Lordirish’s 4th Annual CSComp!

thanks to Marc Mol - https://africaddict.smugmug.com/
It would be interesting and original to see a dragon-human bond.
I can’t believe I forgot - It’s been a while but does everyone remember Choice of the Dragon
I remember a read through where all the goblins served you as the first of many minions. Can’t be sure but couldn’t you rule over the humans as well?
Not the Of beasts and humans (Short Demo is Out!) - #277 by Prof_Chaos
type of rule. . .
I guess the dragon was parasitic in that example. Personally I’m tending towards the
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/47183494/pics%20charles/4.jpg
relationship at the moment.
Is that a space whale?..
Oh, yess
And I challenge you to find a cooler relationship
(tho if you ever watch dr.who, this ones kinda sad. . .)
I haven’t been able to play the new demo yet, but I can’t believe I haven’t asked about how magic works in the world of Eris yet.
Whisper magic into my ear, babe.
some text from the later chapters ahead
“So when you find someone, you teach them how to do magic?” Orin seems to sense that this is a conversation the acolyte has had innumerable times and she moderates her voice, but the boy still remains good-natured about answering - he even seems a bit flattered by her attention. Something that doesn’t escape Harthor’s notice either.
“Not really,” he shakes his head, that funny smile appearing again, “it’s more like we teach people how to release it without doing harm. And by the way, it’s not called magic, it’s called glyf.” He tweeks his turban, “see - as in glyfic.”
“Is that what you’re doing?” Ruric observes, “you’re doing all these, tricks, . . to waste your magic?” He sounds somewhat appalled.
“Yes,” the boy nods, without hint of irritation, “to release glyf.” He looks at the uncomprehending faces and purses his lips.
“I’ll show you.”
He places his palm on the wet table, closes his eyes and then lifts his hand upward, slowly. Then he draws his hand away, leaving a sparkling crystal shard, like a small irregularly shaped bead, sitting in the wine on the tabletop.
'The agent discovered skulking in the poor Quarter confesses to be a high ranking member of the Endish Church. This would, we assume, make him quite magically powerful - yet he accepted arrest without a fight. He then went berserk when we tried to chain him but even then demonstrated no intent to harm us with his powers. He made similar claims again and again and I record one here verbatim, to illuminate the later occurrences:
where a woman or man’s glyf is not released and is allowed to reach its critical potential, it causes the glyf-wielder to flash. Binding me risks yourselves -
the flash - it effects terrible changes to the glyf-wielder and to their surroundings, you condemn us by what you do not understand. .
We were understandably unwilling to unbind the agent and allow him to use his magic, but as time passed and his ravings continued along the same lines, we discovered that merely chaining the man was not enough to restrict his powers. At one point he somehow brought about the collapse of the eastern wing, the cells and their occupants underneath it apparently disappearing overnight as though they’d never existed, causing massive subsidence. During a separate and terrifying incident my own colleague was dissolved before my eyes as used his tools upon the Prelate. He was one moment a man, and the next a pile of bloody mucus - like birth fluid.
Thanksbee claims the ‘flashing’ he fears acts like an instantaneous compression of different possibilities and outcomes. He says a person standing in a flash might experience events that have, are, or will occur at different times both past, future and present. They might pass through versions of themselves which were, could be and might have been. And these transformations could well be occurring at the same time [i]to different parts of their body. [My emphasis S]
Thanks a lot for the compliment (I really don’t think that was justified in being flagged) - I have added in a transition sentence - thanks for taking the time to read the demo and spot something that can make everyone’s reading experience better!
PS @Trussell if you don’t come out as my partner you realise they’re going to keep blocking you, don’t you. . xx
This morning help out by answering - QUESTION OF THE DAY -
“Who has experience implementing checkpoints?” - headscratch - 09/04/16
Thanks to @Silhuetta for engaging in great detail on the last one =bonds and dragons= via PM.
@nightcap, I might as well hit this one out of the park right away. For starters, there’s two ways you can make checkpoints, or “saves”.
Option 1: A checkpoint system based on Samuel_H_Young's idea
It’s something that personally have not tried out yet, but it looks to be short, simple, and to the point.
Option two: CJW’s save system - ChoiceScript Saving Plugin (Update: Sept. 2019)
I have been tinkering with this one a little bit, but getting it to work is a pain in the neck. Probably 'cause I’m a doofus when it comes to coding
Yeah, second it’s a pain in the ass. First I never tried but seem easier . You always could use the password system for beta testing is easy to use .
@poison_mara, I forgot about that! Thanks for mentioning it.
@nightcap This might be the easier one of the three options, so I’ll just provide you with a link: About "Save" System
