New: Tagging Topics

Wut?
I think I recalled being a basic user and is able to “peek” to a “deleted” post’s content.
That feeling when you’re able to do that

*edit: as embarassing as it is, I’m forced to edit this silly comment :expressionless:

For the record, a lot of US English features are older anyway, if you really wanted to be a purist about it. (Like saying “fall” for autumn dates to the 17th century.) But regardless, it’s stuff like starting sentences with “and” that would make you sound more native.

Happens to me too. I think seeing it in a new context provides just enough context that your brain stops glossing over stuff that it previously ignored

Would it be possible to hide details for deleted posts, but not regularly edited posts? Or are those governed by the same settings?

In the case of seeing after 10 minutes that someone’s fixed a typo… without details, people would be likely to wonder whether something significant was added, and have to search through it. With details, you can easily see “okay, no big deal.”

And, well, often I like to edit posts to add something on without double posting, and I see others do this often, and I click on the pencil all the time so that I know what material is new.

I do this a lot too, no need to clutter up the forum’s thread’s and inflate our post counts unnecessarily.

Actually, I do end up using a few, either for typos, or just things I forgot to say before I hit “Reply”…

But, yeah, @RETowers, could we have the details back? I can understand @Lithophene’s concerns, but I feel having them is more useful (e.g. for preventing double posting) than not.

It looks like they’re back, so thank you

Incidentally, does anyone know why the edit pencil comes in different colors? What does it mean?

Haah! Finally I can pry those deleted messages again! :smiling_imp:

FYI, the color pencil determines the “recentness” of your latest edit. And also the kind of post you’re editing.
Orange for 5 minutes and so, which goes brown, and gray at… 15 days?

And green for wikis.

Posting here since I know we were having a chat a while back about the edit functionality, but did something change again? It used to take about 5 minutes before Discourse would start tracking separate edits. If I tidied up a bunch o’ stuff within that time, it’d all be bundled up under one edit. Now I’m getting a tally each time I notice I missed something. :worried: Like this. Or this. Or even this.

Well, that is the point that was asked by @idonotlikeusernames, originally.

I personally don’t mind by editing my comment a lot since the daily edit limit is bumped to 200

The grace period has been abolished but the allowed number of edits has been upped. Now the forum shall truly know and track every bad and careless writing habit we display. :imp:

Be proud of it :ok_hand:

Speaking of changed things (sorry, not sure where else to mention this? it doesn’t seem like it’d be worthy of its own topic), I’ve noticed that the forum is now automatically converting apostrophes and “quotation marks” into the curled versions rather than the straight ones. (I first noticed this with :’( , which had previously converted to )

I rather like this, really. (Less imposition of straightness, yay :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: )

Not really sure if this has been reported but with a large amount of tags, it messes up the site view on mobile devices.

Nope, no one pointed that out to me. IDK if that’s an update that broke that, or it’s been broken for a while. I mean, I’ve planned on updating how tags look for a while, so, uh, I guess I’ll do that as soon as I have a chance.

I just noticed this issue. I think it is because of the number of tags in cryptkeepers of hallowford post that is causing it.

A few minor changes:

  1. Groupings are now visible on the tags page.
  2. New WIPs now require at least one tag.
  3. Muted tags will now no longer show up on the Latest page. (So if you mute the #gender-locked-male tag, or the new #interest-check tag, you won’t even have to see them. [except to the extent that people don’t always tag things, but if you’re a regular (that is, a regular), then I believe you can even fix those instances yourself.])

Genres have been removed or are they being reworked and will come back?

Not intentional. Odd bug, but deleting the grouping and recreating it seems to have squashed it.

Did CoG re-instate the old and low number edits without a grace period again? Because for the first time in a long while I’ve been running up against it.

Really?
Let me try it.

Looks normal to me :/

The daily number is thirty, probably doesn’t help that I’m working on a draft of something in a PM (no, not a choice game) that I’m constantly adjusting. Number of edits seems to be 30 per day, but since there is no grace period on ordinary posts anymore even quickly correcting a spelling mistake or swallowed word eats up an edit.
