If there are eventually going to be 6 books in the Hyuga series, that means there are 6 demons to vanquish right? I’m guessing part of book 5 will be gathering back the MC ronin’s Old pals since in book 4 they all went their separate ways, aside from Masami who showed up to close the demon portal. I’m especially interested to see how finding Toshie again will go, since she kinda just left after the MC Ronin got choked by the red string magic spell.
I think the number of demons to vanquish is revealed in book 1 already by the emperor. Iirc there 3 demons still left.
Does anyone know the age of the MC and Masami? Because if I’m correct, I saw hints for some loli romance in book 4 at the end when the MC meets Masami in the underworld and Masami is described as “mature”. It’s a stretch but since the author is taking advice from fans on patreon I thought it would be a possibility. OR. You can choose to ignore the blurred out option cause I’d really just like to know if the MC and Masami have a canon age? Or do any of the characters have a canon age?
As far as I know, the author didn’t confirmed it yet (if ever). But we can assume that the ronin is in their prime age, since when fighting Gensai, he the same age as ronin and was in his prime (according to himself).
Masa is still underage(not sure if it’s by Japan’s standards or Americans). As for us like the one above said, we’re in our prime, so in between 23-27(?).
@Cari-san I’d be fine if at the end we can’t get a “happy ending” with Jun/ko, but I find it very hard to believe that an Mc that’s in love with them to the point of having a kid would just accept leaving them in hell. Those that hate Jun/ko and want nothing to do with them can go on and ignore/forget about them, but those that do like them would do everything they could to find/save Jun/ko or just kill themselves to be reunited.
My thoughts exactly.
Also, this is a quote from the author on their Website to a comment posted and is regarding Masa as a Romance option:
“Masami is a potential, future RO. Because Masami is depicted as underaged, there will be no intimate scenes with her until after a timeskip in the story. Their relationship with MC can still grow in the meanwhile.”
I hear you. Well it’s too soon for any sort of happy endings anyway, so I know something has to happen to get in the way, at the end of each book, haha.
I knew Jun(ko) was doomed the moment the Ronin found the apple trees…
However, I’m surprised nobody has mentioned the wolf statue in the shrine… correct me if I’m wrong, but the message seemed to be that Jun(ko) is/was a part of the prophecy and was key to finding the “spirit still yet pure” and helping to prevent the clans from uniting, etc. Jun(ko) sniffed out the corruption instinctively before the Ronin even realized it.
I’m not gonna accept ‘doomed’ as a definite yet. And I did mention the wolf though in another context. It was also Jun (in my play through) who killed the last demon. At least in one of my playthroughs. But yeah, I keep seeing that everything is connected. Just as was mentioned at the end of Book 3.
The waiting game has begun anew.
I believe there are 2 left.
Snake, Fox, Eagle and Kirin have been… dealt with. 6 to begin with. A spirit of greed, a spirit of the mountain, of opportunity, manipulation, honor and pure. Though I wonder, who Sakiko really is.
Edit:
Unless… The Baron Kitsune never was one of the spirits but another victim. That could make Sakiko the spirit of manipulation
Oh, you’re right. I guess math failed me badly here… xD
Haha, failed math has never inspired me as much as it did. Cause now I’m starting to wonder…
See the edit of previous post.
Pretty sure she Toshiaki Mukai wife and Satsuma relative (I think), I could be wrong though. I think she Spirit of the Mountain.
I honestly more about curious who would be Spirit of Opportunity, so far the description fit the ronin, but the Emperor refer to the spirit as “he” so I probably wrong.
@Cari-san @Vattena I actually had considered Sakiko the spirit of opportunity, considering how she approached Momoko. But yeah, the male pronoun is off. But also, when I think back … The Baron thanked the Ronin for releasing him. That’s odd for a spirit, no? Or is it all just a means of posession? Might as well be. But wouldn’t work with the Kirin… Hmm…
Now that I think about it. I think it was mentioned somewhere in book 3 that it was more an accident that ronin and co. stumbled into the kitsune, Toshs plan was just to investigate the rebellion.Hmm, so idk either if Roderico counts here or not?
㊃ “A spirit of manipulation. A truly vile creature who cannot be killed by normal means. I’m afraid that it will find you before you find it.”
Who found whom? End of book 4…
“We found him, my lady!”
The way I see it, Roderico seems already possessed by the kitsune the longest, way long before this damned quest. Part of him probably too tired to continue living. Though…
Yeah, that’s a good point. Not to mention that Sakiko probably manipulated both the Baron and Toshiaki Mukai… Spirit of Manipulation does seems fit her better
@Vattena
Actually… Opportunity may have been… Ichiro Takeda…
㊀ “A spirit of greed. Her being taints those who are pure with her poison. I saw a nest of snakes. She must not be allowed to live.”
Book one, snake demon
㊁ “The spirit of the mountain. This one will cause mudslides and earthquakes against my forces when the time comes. I saw an old mountain entangled with vines and undergrowth. It makes a beautiful painting.”
Unknown
㊂ “A spirit of opportunity. He will stop at nothing for power. I saw boats and mass bloodshed. An isolated village full of desperate children. Where noble souls are endangered. I wake up feeling as if sea-salt is being rubbed into my blood.”
Ichiro… Mass blood shed, power, children… Desperate children… In hell… Genfu, the fisher village… Souls in danger
㊃ “A spirit of manipulation. A truly vile creature who cannot be killed by normal means. I’m afraid that it will find you before you find it.”
My guess would be Sakiko. She was both, in the memories of the butcher and the baron. She promised Momoko all she desired. Butcher got to retire, baron got all the riches and cultural artifacts he could want. Maybe granted desires with an evil twist?
㊄ “A spirit of honor. Show him that pride can cripple a man from the inside. I recognize the man, a general under my command, Shatao. He is head of the barracks in the mountain pass. Tread carefully with this one.”
Eagle, book 3
㊅ “And finally, a spirit still yet pure. Of warring bloodlines of two clans. If they are united they will grow too powerful…you will have to swing your sword in a different way to finish this.”
Kirin
Wow, This book’s kinda amazing a fitting 4th book to the series. While not perfect and I have some reservations about the storyline, the only tragic thing here is how long its gonna take for the sequel to come out.
I see just one flaw in you logic there. As far we know Ichiro has no ties to any fisher village and it’s mentioned in this book that northerners can’t swim, which I don’t assume would be an often unlearned skill in a place near the sea. So while mass bloodshed and desperate children can fit here the mention of boats and sea doesn’t make much sense to me.
