@Chaneyi I meant she was left in the underworld/hell after I cut the red string of fate and also dismembered her.

@harmonia I don’t remember a ā€œsave progress/save choicesā€ at the end of the story. That generally means it’s a conclusion since if you can’t save the ending, then there can’t be another book that continues off of it. That’s generally how HG and CoG works. I think.

theres a new policy for HG and COG games where there will be saves once the sequel or in this case book 5 is placed on the queue as far as i remember

and im still very much in denial that jun/ko is dead.

Correct me if I’m wrong but I remember that the story will have 6 books

@iEch0 there are 2 more books planned (6 total), I believe. I’m following the author’s patreon, and the author is already posting about new stuff planned for the next book. So yeah, it’s kinda another cliffhanger ending with things unresolved.

Ah, ok, so we’re talking about the same scene. I pointed something out above in a previous comment, which is why I still do not believe that it is actual death. Fun fact as well … Jun(ko) learned dual wielding … That had me thinking.

It is actually possible to traver to and from hell/spirit world in spirit form as Masa Chan shown us many times… But if you have read the side story, sometimes shugenja or magically aptitude people got stuck in spirit world due to much more straining than they can handle. In side story Hitomi Chan was trapped in spirit world and it was called magical coma or something like that. Masa Chan decided to save Hitomi by entering spirit world in spirit form (grown up Masa Chan with red panda) and search for Hitomi’s spirit. I hope Masa Chan was successful so that we can save them.

But there is no indication, that you can physically travel between our world and spirit world without a portal. So it’s safe to assume that we have seen the last of Jun/co.

I just finished the book. I see now why the opinions are divided about jun because he was abusive(in a way) to the protag for like the rest of her life and the start of book 4.

I really liked Jun’s character development and how he was written. He really strived to change when mc was gone and because I don’t know how to do the spoiler thingy, I can’t write exactly how he changed.

The other main characters didn’t get much attention though but I guess it’s fine since they were featured prominently in the last 3 books.

What about the toshio/masashi/momoko pursuers though? ( I will do separate gameplays in soh 4 because I don’t wanna hurt tosh lol)

It was good for me and even though I’ll probably get bashed or something for this, I like SOH 4 more than SOH 3.

It is all my opinion though, and sorry for reading through my horrible English grammar. I’ll probably proofread it so your eyes won’t bleed later on lolz.

If so, I think this book did a well job to settle things between Jun/ko and the ronin, at least if you play a ronin who still has feelings for Jun/ko. But now I hope in the next book we’ll have the badass demon slayer ronin again, I miss that.

Your english is quite fine

Also to do spoilers just [ spoiler ] insert text here [/ spoiler]

On a personal level, I can’t agree. Seeing the changes in Jun(ko), if you go with their Romance, it’s a horrible way to end it. And since my Ronin now knows, that there is a way to enter hell, they won’t stop until they find a way to return. If that’s not in the books, it’s my head cannon. ā€œWe’ll find a different wayā€ is what Jun(ko) says, and that’s what my Ronin will do. Finding a way that does not include mass sacrifice.

So you’re telling me I just have to wait long enough for book 5 of Samurai of Hyuga to be placed on queue then replay the story again just to get a save? Totally worth. Tyvm.

I love this series. This is just how I’ve come to see Gensai.

I think after having this book dedicated mostly to Jun/ko and the ronin dealing with their past. It seems kinda final. I can sooner imagine this as a tragic end to Jun/ko’s romance route than them returning from hell if that’d happen then it’d leave me with the feeling that we might have spent too much time here on settling things with them.

Author finally gave me what i wanted after what she did to Momoko. I hope it is final.

I see where you are coming from and respect that - maybe even more so for people who did not go the Jun(ko) route. But for those that did … after renewing the promises, after considering a future to have the one they love stuck physically in hell … doesn’t sit right with me. Unless the Author will allow my Ronin to die at the end of the story, to provide an option to be with them.

But this is very personal preference territory and I can see how people feel differently about it. I am just tired to some extend, that all ends have to be dire. I get enough of that in the news

Normally I’d agree with this. In games I also tend to prefer happy endings than tragedies, like you said there are already enough bad things IRL no need for that in our sources for escapism too. But in this case I can’t see how ronin and Jun/ko could get their happy ending. If they were to return and live happily(?) with the ronin would that really be what they deserve after the things they’ve done? Tho your idea of the ronin dying to join Jun/ko in hell at the end could work imo. Or for ronins who romanced them without showing interest towards any of the other ROs it could be a fitting punishment to just keep on living.
Anyway I guess let’s agree to disagree in this case with respect for eachothers opinion.

I can agree to that.
Though, when we are saying ā€œdo they really deserveā€ … wouldn’t that apply to our Ronin as well? I can think of some things they have done that don’t necessarily result in a place in the heavens.

Our Ronin has been about change … about reflecting on the past … forgiveness … ā€˜bettering’ themselves. Why should it be reserved for them only.

But I’ll stop now - though I think we could have a very interesting ongoing discussion about this. Thanks for your input, I greatly enjoyed it. Gives me new perspectives.
