Had trouble focusing all day, so I mostly just worked on making a little customization section for character-appearance.
I’m not sure how integrated I want to make height/build mechanics with the gameplay, though. A lot of the challenges are kinetic, so it would make sense … but it would also mean re-calculating all the math to account for another set of variables to balance in every challenge. I’m just not sure I can juggle it all in a way that doesn’t feel arbitrary.
Ohhhh you’re reminding me of the time I was seriously contemplating of making a videogame with some serious math behind the scenes about how stats affected things like how fast you’re going to climb up a hill…
Haha, I considered adding a time component to this game for how fast the player could escape a burning building … then decided maybe it was too hard.

Nah. The problem with it was I can’t do 3D to save my life, so I couldn’t make what I envisioned.
Yeah, I much prefer working with text. Graphics are hard.

I’m nearly halfway towards my goal, which is great, because tomorrow will be halfway towards my scheduled surgery, so I’m not sure how well things will go after that. Hoping to hit, or at least get very close to, the 40k mark before the 18th. I think anything else I manage after that will be a bonus, really.

Still going. I’m starting to feel some serious fatigue with the pace, though, so I think I’ll do something I really should be doing anyway and give myself tomorrow off. Maybe if I make it my goal to write nothing, I’ll feel a little better about doing so…
Or maybe I’ll fail and write something. That is a distinct possibility, with me. It’s not great for preventing burnout.
Ha, well, despite best intentions, I am joining the Nano wri mo party pretty late this year, but I am finally underway. Technically, I did have maybe a couple thousand words for Dice & Dungeon Masters but as I didn’t compare my word count before or after I finally finished that update, I shan’t include them.
So, as of today, I am at a meek 2,876 words or so - but, as this is also essentially day 1 for me, I think it’s a descent start. My new project is a loosely inspired 1990’s style story done hopefully in the style of the teen thriller / supernatural novels of Christopher Pike - I figured his genre and style were probably different enough from my own that it would be a fun challenge to take me out of my comfort zone a bit. Plus, the 90’s are a bit in right now. Upon rereading a few of his books, I’ve discovered that I won’t be able to do it exactly per his style . . . or his setting . . . but I can do close enough to make some good progress and have a nice big tie ins to one of my games that has sat in poor neglect for unfortunately at least a couple years now. While it will serve as its own complete story, it can also be added to that larger work as a subsection.

another day with no words. once was not good, two is unacceptable. i had a 4 hour test and a 2 hour group interview for this non profit organization im trying to get into but i dont think thats a good excuse. the funk is still there but i wont let it slow me down any more.
Added 52 words to the shiny-new-project (actually called Wedding Crashers) planning document. Really wish I had my computer but alas. It’s even hard to find the spoons/energy to deal with/troubleshoot the dang thing.

Definitely more difficult to write with so much else going on in my house. Fortunately, I’ve hit a point where the scene I’m working on is a lot like the version I wrote before, with some changes/additions in places, so most of my work is just making adjustments. There’s a bit coming up soon that’s brand-new, though, so here’s hoping I can find the time and focus for it tomorrow.

I did some of that brand-new stuff today, and I’m feeling pretty good about it. I’m not sure it’s any good in the ‘objective’ sense, but it’s moving the scene forward, at least. Also makes it really feel distinct from the other version, for me.
Up to 12,040 with my late start and all. Feel like it’s starting to come along, though now there’s a little energy bleed off as I’m a couple chapters in. Unfortunately, with my work schedule its kind of been most days little to no productivity and then marathon writing on my days off to catch up.
