Still trying to figure out which ‘project’ I’m working on. Not making the 50K words unless I somehow pick and finish the Vampire one. I wish my brain could stick with one idea.
Last night I figured out how I want to handle reputation in different locations (the PC can have different reputations depending where they are) in my new project, a few secondary stats that aren’t related to social stuff, and made inroads into pinning down how health and equipment/food supplies will work. I want the player to be able to do things like stockpile useful items or give things away, and for it to be clear what their current equipment situation is, without it being too nitpicky, and I think I’ve got a good solution.
My current count is 2/2 days of migraine (and also I forgot what day it was, I was still living Friday in Saturday afternoon). So yay me.

mainly just wrote up some different branches and variations. this starting prologue is turning out to be a bit longer than i thought it was. the actual fully fledged missions will probably be a lot bigger at this rate. i dont mind, more variation and branching is the bread and butter of this genre but i do worry sometimes if i go a bit too far with it. im not exactly the most focused when it comes to the mechanics i just put what comes to mind and if it works it works. guess thats where the feedback will come in and help me.
Day 3
Today’s progress: 3,000 words
Total progress: 9,000 words
This number was boosted because of some instances of text repetition. It’s not egregious, and I found it necessary for ease of editing/reading the code, so I opted not to make it as efficient as possible, which tends to be about where I fall in similar situations.
That did make progress feel fairly fast today, but I think that is also because I was writing a section I was pretty interested in.
Day 2, still working on shiny new project as a treat, added a surname for the main NPC, and wrote 31 words of story to startup.txt. Gonna ignore the variables for now, I’ll add all the *create stuff a little later down the road. I also doodled the main NPC on scrap receipt paper during some downtime at work. Tomorrow, if I work on this again, I wanna work on the wardrobe system variables since that is the main point of this project, but then I also wanna work a bit on my main big IF project. Really need to get my tires outta the quicksand on that one.
Update: I was supposed to stop working and prepare for bed, gah! It’s technically day 3 now, and I just added 53 words to the outline/planning document.
Day 2/3 (it is 5 AM here, so technically, I made most of my progress on the 3rd, but I didn’t go to sleep yet, which obviously means it’s still November 2nd!)
Nov 1: 1,944
Nov 2 + 3 (so far): 2,775
Borrowed my mom’s wrist brace and I feel like a new person (one with a half-decent wrist). It still hurts a bit, given that I wrote for three hours straight, but the wrist brace is definitely saving me from hurting myself even further. Had to go out with my friends wearing it, and I finally felt like my friend in 3rd grade when she broke her arm. A childhood dream come true <3
I shouldn’t have stayed up writing but I’m glad I did, because my family comes over for lunch every Sunday and they leave super late (usually it’s 9 PM, lol) so I’m not making any progress in the afternoon.
I also realized I am nearly 5k words into this thing and not a single one of my characters has a last name. Some side characters don’t even have a first name. I haven’t named their country, either. Damn. At least that makes it reading what I’ve written so far kinda funny since I’m using placeholders.
Please be careful with your wrist! It’s no joke, and you don’t want to risk being unable to use your hand for a year.

more branching and variation stuff. did decide to cut down on some potential paths because god dang this thing is getting a lot fatter than i expected. not that i dont mind, i think it will go a bit smoother now that i have a bit of a clearer vision on what i want. slightly less word count today cuz i had to deal with work and gym, will make up for it tomorrow.
My advice is focus on big clear paths that you have already planned previously. One you have written and directed those bigger broader roads. It would be far easier return in edition and add the secondary branches.
Because it is far easier add stuff and meaningful choices when you know how plot goes and see that plot in paper.
Today: 1302 / 1667
Total: 6135 / 5001
Not too bad so far today, but I’m not sure I’ll hit my goal. Having issues staying focused. I’m having fun exploring the characters especially at this early stage of the story with first impressions with a party of quirky characters.
For the moment I’m avoiding most of the details of the choices and combat and trying to stick specifically to the main story aspects and leaving notes for the feel of the choices to be placed later on. I have never done it this way, so this will serve as a test to the method.
Day 4
Today’s progress: 2,000 words
Total progress: 11,000 words
Today I wrote chunks in between doing other things. It took me longer overall, but it was sort of a little less stressful in a way. The other activity was structured such that the chunks are reliable, so I knew I was going to get it done, but not being fussed about doing it all at once, and having mental breaks built in, was unexpectedly nice.
Probably not something I could do all the time, but it got me to the word count goal for today.
I am in awe of you guys!
Was not feeling well today, mentally. Wrote 17 words in my shiny-new-project outline/planning document.
Plus you got other things done too, so that’s a bonus.
I haven’t written a single one that isn’t in a forum post this month yet.
Joining a bit late! My goal this month is just to do somewhere between 15,000 and 20,000.
But I want it to be forward progress on the story sections, not just brainstorming notes or anything. Which is hard for me, haha.

still dealing with branching stuff. honestly its not even that big, i just like to put a lot of detail in each individual responses. definitely a bit slow going but i like fleshing them out. maybe ill find a balance to it as i go on. id say the final word count for this one will probably be around 20k words, then I can move on to the other chapers.
Words today: 2005
Words this month: 2959/30,000
Pleased with my progress today. Also got another 900 words in a side story not part of my monthly goal.
wrote around 900 words today. less than i would’ve liked to, but more than i thought i was going to, so it’s okay. i’m not sure how much i’ll be able to write tomorrow, either, bc i want to rework my outline to be more detailed and i want to focus on that, so unless i can do it super quickly (which i highly doubt) i won’t add anything to the actual manuscript tomorrow.
Day 5
Today’s progress: 2,000 words
Total progress: 13,000 words
Starting to settle into a bit more of a rhythm. 2000 a day is still a big ask, especially compared to the 1000 I’ve been holding myself to most recently, but I’m getting through it largely by dividing myself into ‘sessions’ so I don’t feel like I have to do it all in one big chunk.
I’m not sure if anyone else does this, but I also tend to try and be a day ‘ahead’ or have extra words ‘banked’ to potentially cover a worse day. Somehow treating it like this in my mind, and being like ‘anything I write today is just a bonus, because I have the words banked already’ makes it much less laborious to actually… do the equivalent of a daily goal.
I think it’s just the slight easing of the pressure. Feeling like I’m doing extra credit instead of what I’ve decided is the ‘bare minimum’ is much easier.
