Monsters of New Haven High - last update 4/02

I’ll have to find it, If I do I’ll pm title. It was given to me by a church member helping some family members…

Some demons are fallen angels, some aren’t (there were demons like rakshas before Christianity.) It doesn’t really matter for the sake of this story which succubi are; the demon has only the vaguest of ideas where they come from, much less where their ancestors did.

@Sashira That reminds me, you mentioned Echidna (a naga like monster proclaimed to be the mother of all monsters in Greek mythology for the uneducated peons out there) is she the original monster? Or is she just the origin for some creatures? I find it hard to imagine Goblins and Succubi having a common ancestor.

You’ll see. If Echidna did have anything to do with their origins, it would be many many generations ago. Nowadays, monsters pretty solidly come from other monsters of their species, whether by birth or conversion. (Except for creatures like wendigos that have their own methods of spontaneous conversion.)

(grumble) See? That’s my problem! I overthink things, get too curious and then can do nothing but flail in agitation at the understandable lack of answers.

Here’s a question I think you should be able to answer. Is there a difference between Incubi and Succubi, or are they the same creature? My interpretation was that a Succubus could appear male is she desired and vice versa. Meaning that the terminology has more to do with their current choice of appearance rather than any actual gender. Part of why I like this interpretation is that it makes the freaky sex demon almost asexual in a way.

To my knowledge they’re the same species It’s just calling them Suc or In is simply a gender label. Like how “man” and woman is

Succubi are usually beautiful and female, while incubi are like, really ugly and male.

@Zeta_Voidis My point was questioning whether a ghost thing that feeds off adoration and other positive feelings with extreme shape shifting abilities even has a gender. I view it as a Succubus is an Incubus that identifies as female, and an Incubus is a Succubus that prefers to appear male. I am curious whether there is a tangible difference between the two, like human genders, or if its just a matter of personal preference for the demon.

@ballmot I think you’re mixing up Incubus and Imp. I could be wrong, but I thought that Incubi were more often than not viewed as attractive men. I know for a fact that one of the believed origins for Succubi and Incubi was when people suffered from sleep paralysis(waking up and being unable to move). And that they were also used by early Christians as a sort of scapegoat. ‘I didn’t cheat on you Mark! I was impregnated by a devil!’ and the like. Kind of like the middle ages version of being abducted by aliens.

That’s what I meant with what I said.

Ah, okay. So you view them as the same species with clearly defined genders, where I view them as something more akin to borderline asexual shapeshifters?

It’d be interesting if Sashira could chime in with the answer, I don’t really care which of us is correct, I just want to know more about her interesting take on demons.

@Durxa
Indeed, it actually depends on what Sashira wants her demons to look like anyway.

The version of succubus/incubus that I described here came from a skype conversation with a guy who had a Ph. D. in Mythological Studies, that is why I trusted it. They are apparently a demon who can become either an incubus or a succubus. The incubus didn’t need to look good because it raped women at night, while the succubus had to seduce men.

But that is just one version, each country had a different kind of sex demon.

Correct. An incubus, succubus, and 'cubus (as I ended up calling NB-cubi) are the same creature. If one decides that their identity is different than they once thought, the same individual could be all three at different points in their lives. It’s a bit more fluid, since their bodies so easily shift to match their identity.

Presentation isn’t everything - a succubus can put on a male body for the sake of disguise or convenience - but yes, demons are polygendered by default and can then choose to identify with one gender or another. It’s sort of backwards from how humans do it, since humans are born with bodies and generally have their gender assigned for them based on that (until they get old enough to say differently), and demons are non-corporeal creatures who manifest flesh as they need it.

And yeah, incubi and 'cubi are also gorgeous. It’s actually a limitation of their species - this kind of demon is unable to manifest as anything but attractive. Which means that, as humans change their minds about what is attractive, they may lose access to their favorite forms from a century ago.

p.s. - You don’t mean “asexual”, an asexual 'cubus would have a hard time not starving, so demons aren’t wired for that. You mean something like agender or polygender or non-binary, I think. (I’m still learning the terminology myself, maybe the exact right word for non-physical beings doesn’t exist yet, but it’s not asexual, that’s a matter of preference and desire.)

Edited to add: At some point in the game, the demon will have an option to reveal to their lovers that they can appear as other genders. (As an NPC, if you develop a close intimate relationship with them, they will bring it up to you.) This may be seen as a bonus or a deal breaker, depending on the character, and how this interaction is handled will either bring you closer together or prove to be an irreconcilable difference. As an MC demon you will have a couple more options; e.g., you can promise your lover that they will never see you in a form that isn’t their preferred gender.

Interesting, I like your take on demons, they’re not like any I’ve seen anywhere else. I know what you mean about the term asexual, I was (as you clearly understood) using it to refer to the demon’s lack of physical sexual characteristics, not its sexual orientation.

As it always seems to, your generous dispensation of tidbits of information just makes me hungry for more. I am now really curious about other demons and, if they exist, what their abilities would be.

So would you say that they are…ANCIENT ALIENS!

You’re welcome. And thank you.

This is pretty late, but I just have the urge to point this out.

The giants are called Nephilim.

And there were either 200 or 100 or so angels (or was it angel tribes?) that fell this way. Led by Azazel, who taught man how to make weapons and taught women how to put on make-up.

Sometimes, I wonder if they could ever be put into this game, but then again, how the hell are you gonna hide a giant among teenagers?

But freaky giant angel thing, I want to fight!

No fighting! You’re getting eyeliner and you’ll like it!
