Monsters of New Haven High - last update 4/02

I had an idea: at the homecoming dance, “Thriller” comes on and all the monsters in the room do the dance. All of them. No exceptions!

No dancing! Especially to that!
My monster will just stand there.

That would be so awesome.

Why not go for something animeish like a nekotama. or in lame man’s term a cat girl or cat man

If they’re going to do ‘animeish’ I’d rather them use Kitsune. They’re already part of the lore, and best of all, they’re actually mythical creatures! (Not just freaky women with cat ears and a tail)

A kitsune would be pretty cool

I agree that a kitsune would be an interesting addition. From what I know of the creatures, kitsune have been said to shapeshift, use magic, and posses humans.

One thing that is interesting to note is that a nine tailed kitsune would have white and gold fur(Or blue and black. Haha! I tell funny joke) while being omniscience(aware of everything everywhere). The older the fox, the more tails they have. I’ve read it takes a hundred years for a fox to grow three tails, but I could be mistaken.

Real nekotama (and I use that word loosely) are actually usually cats who gain sentience and magic power through old age domestically or are raised in the wild. Essentially in their true form they’re cat versions of wearwolfs with the power to shapes shift like Succubi or Incubi.

They’re not half man like the two legged wolves, rather they are completely cat who can transform at will between their true form and their disguise be it as a human or something else entirely.

Finally if a real nekotama were to attack you it wouldn’t be a flat chested anime girl with tails and ears scratching you out of jealousy when she sees you flirt with another female. They’d shoot to kill you so to speak in their true form with the same amount of ferocity you’d see of a wearwolf in a serious fight.

Thus while I would also like to see a kitsune in a future update please don’t toss them aside in a stereotypical manner. That’s part of why all of the other monsters at school have to hide themselves from us.

Hmm, I don’t think a cat person would really fit, they’re kinda similar to werewolves, and besides they are so very overdone in practically every form of mainly japanese media and despite them having a proper serious lore it’s mainly just overlooked for the modern version of them being basically just people with cat ears

True, but that’s why I suggested them… why not do them right instead of stereotypical? I mean I don’t think anyone would see it coming. Of course I am nothing more than a fan of this WIP. It’s up to the author to make such calls.

It would be nice to see them done properly for once, maybe someone could do a different CoG where the player is a nekotama in ancient/medival japan, that’d be an interesting idea

I really dig the writing and overall tone of this, and five character choices is already a pretty generous amount. @Sashira has already given readers options for varied tastes. I’m eager to get more storyline about why there are so many monsters at this one school.

I hate to bring this up, because I’m pretty sure it’s been mentioned somewhere in the 1193 previous posts, but as a parent I know that “Monster High” is a licensed series of dolls, toys, etc., and I’m pretty sure the name of the story would have to be changed for publication.

High Monster would give people the wrong idea so i guess im out of ideas already.

Hey, welcome to the thread! :tada:

Those are the ones I’m designing now. Additional species are going to be available as downloads after it’s released, and it gives people something to talk about while I finish these last couple of Day 1 scenes. (It’s been slow going this week.)

It’s because there are so many monsters in this one town. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: As for why that is, keep your eyes open. There are several early clues in Day 1.

:pensive: Changing the name is right at the top of my priority list. The player suggestions I’ve checked out so far are also taken by something (not Mattel but something) so not ideal. I’ll get back to it soon, I swear.

Japanese mythology is really freaking cool. So far Vickie the kitsune is the school’s token youkai (or would she be a mononoke? Still get those mixed up.) The number of monsters at your school is limited, but there will be various chances to meet monsters outside of school. Also, you can read about some monsters in the library, including the wonderful Kasa-obake/kasa tsukumogami/umbrella monster. No promises whether these or other Japanese monsters will appear in this game as NPCs. Psst… Chances are very good.

Vickie is still in school, so I imagine she has minimal tails. Maybe just the one.

I’m considering letting someone sneakily play Monster Mash. Also, there’s going to be some leeway about what a goblin can get played at the dance, if they work on a certain project that will be added to Day 1 with the next update.

General question: If I ditched the clockwork pet for the goblin, would anyone miss them?

Not yet. I think I should just take that out… maybe I’ll give the MC a chance to earn one later.

Nagas are also super-freaking-cool. Probably not in this game, since I’ve already decided the sequel will involve the great and powerful ECHIDNA and she hangs out with them.

Trying not to break the rules but it sounds like you almost done with day one is that right to assume

Yes. I am still drawing a blank on some of the lunch conversations (I will likely upload before filling those in.) I’m done with all of the major Day 1 edits, and am finishing off nightlife and the Hunter fight now.

Cool I’m excited to See it.

Forgive me for asking, but where does Vickie the Kitsune come into play? I’ve played through all of the monster species so far and haven’t seen her? Or is she simply a character planned for a later update?

She is on the school newspaper with Sandy the Harpy. She’s mentioned as the source of some gossip in Day 1, if you talk to Sandy during study hall in the courtyard (requires high Popularity if you are not a demon.)

I only gave Vickie a name because I thought I would refer back to her as a source of information later, but she’s been growing on me. I’m trying to figure out where in Day 2 to work in a conversation with her. (No, she will not be a possible love interest, I have way too many already. They keep springing up unexpectedly.)

So, are monsters common or not? I mean, my mc goes on about keeping monsters a secret, but it seems like almost everyone I talk to is a monster. What’s the story?
