July is the month that the USA celebrates its independence and founding. Cheers to those that celebrate it!
Thank you, everyone that continues to participate in these threads – it helps others when you do participate, sometimes more than you think.
If anyone has specific questions or concerns I may help with, please let me know.
This month, I thought I’d share a few inspirational story ideas and writing prompts from Bryn Donovan:
My July goal is to continue to work on my Patchwork’s project and stay well.
As last month, I have a lot of work to do on Patchworks still, although I did receive fabulous feedback on work I did do in May and June.
“Brutal editing” is the term @malinryden uses to describe the type of editing I am doing, and I have to give it to them — the name really fits the process.
Cross-posting, in case this is not seen in the June thread.
Writing, for me, at the end of June provided a safe haven.
With the Supreme Court of my nation handing down decisions this month that are both disappointing and reactionary, at least I can immerse myself in my writing.
Remember that we have the Political Thread available to act as a place to talk about issues that might be impacting you.
Also know that many writers, myself included, are best able to write and work on their projects when news and current events stay out of their writing places.
With that in mind, I ask that politics and the related topics stay out of the Writer Support Threads.
I’m back as usual, and with similar goals to usual.
I know August isn’t going to be the most productive month for me (I’m moving internationally, among other things), so I’m hoping to get a little more progress made in July to make up for it ahead of time, as it were.
So with that said, my goals for this month are:
45k words in Asphodel
Something most days in Diaspora
This is a bit of a stretch for me, so we’ll see how it goes. Good luck to everyone with their goals this month, and as always @Eiwynn, thank you for these threads.
You mean July…don’t hate me, I have been hanging with someone who is nitpicky about spelling and it’s helping me (as well as converting me to seeing my own shitty spelling. Aka: Finally improving and not blind anymore )
I spent the first half of June working on the Noblesse Oblige beta, which was a whirlwind of an experience and I was so pleased to be able to add to it and polish it up so much.
I then returned to Chapter 9 of Royal Affairs. I feel like I say this a lot but it’s really weird going from edit-brain to writing-completely-new-stuff brain, so it’s been quite an adjustment. This chapter is pretty large and complicated too - I’m juggling big plot drama, big romance resolutions (proposals!) and figuring out the fiddly coding and interpersonal ramifications of a dramatic breakup in the previous chapter. It’s… a lot. But I’m hoping to get the chapter draft down through July.
Some personal news - I now have a nibling who I will be meeting today. I keep misting up (happily) over silly things
Given it’s Camp Nano atm I am hoping I can finally get off my arse and plan out some fan gamebooks that I can write in the Autumn for actual Nano that I can release into the wild next year. Feels like every time I have previously done it most of it is used for planning and little else.
But yes, planning! I have at least the advantage of lots of backgrounds for the IPs I am considering (Star Wars, Fallout, Jurassic Park and Doctor Who) so there’s that. Thinking I might get the paid version of Gamebook Authoring Kit so I can map stuff out properly…
Still struggling with grief. Been a tough half year so far. Been super productive writing. Finished up Gray Painter in the first few months and have had some new projects since then. Hardest bit of motivation is putting the finishing touches on things. I’ll leave it 95% completed and then put off that last 5% for months. Maybe that’s what I’ll do over the next week. Gather up everything that’s almost finished and finish it.
June ended up much more about moving into our new house and getting the kids settled into school than I’d hoped it would be. I only made it to 20,000 words – though that doesn’t represent a lot of time spent on playthroughs and bugfixes.
For July, I’m going to aim for adding 45,000 words and getting within shouting distance of a complete Ch 1.
I wanted to write more this month (only wrote about 1500 words), but my home situation changed a bit and my statistics class, while very interesting, took up a lot more time than I expected it to (turns out summer classes go faster!). Plus with all the stress of living in the U.S. right now…
*I decided it didn’t make much sense for there not to be more cities after 800 years but I don’t want to worldbuild more cities right now. So I’m altering the timeline with my author powers.
After finishing off a large Royal Affairs scene this evening, I’ve tipped past the first third of Chapter 9, which I’m feeling good about - I’d been approaching it with some trepidation so it’s nice to get that done. (for boring reasons I unfortunately did not get to see the nibling today. But soon!)
Hi, everyone. I’ve been inactive since around February or March due to university entrance test prep and such. Now that all of that has passed and I got accepted into my first choice uni (which, unrelated but i am so SO happy about it. Such a big weight off my shoulders…) , I finally have some free time!
Since then, I’ve been working on the 4th chapter of my WIP, slowly but surely. The months I abandoned writing have left me a little rusty, I admit. But it’s getting there. And maybe I’ll finally post the demo… when I finally have the guts to do it, that is
