The idea sounds interesting, but I’d have to see the actual story to decide whether or not I’d actually want to read it.
As of now, the way I see it is that the main ‘character’ will rather be a ‘group of characters’ (let’s say the first one—let’s call them a leader—will form a team of those who share their beliefs, and they’ll be working together).
At first, the PC won’t know the MC and their group, but shortly they’ll encounter each other, and then it’s up to the player what to do and how to react to them.
So, overall, the PC is like an overarching figure whom others (both protagonists and antagonists) will try to sway to their side or somehow deal with. There are also other powerful characters that’ll act as other pieces on the board for everyone to consider.
Yeah the “Dog” is one of things I’m most excited about
22 days late to this but I’m quite curious how this would work out, both as a writer and reader-!
Hey all,
K.P . Here! Btw if you were wondering if K.P. stood for Kim Possible it does not. As much as Kim is a bad ass I didn’t pick my name after her lol. It’s Kalista Persephone. I believe I chose it after I read “Fields of Asphodel.” ( I can’t remember the author but loved the IF.)
Anyway I have updated my Tumblr dev blog and I have finally finished my promo video! I’m so excited! I’ve been working on it for about 6 months. I do video edits too. So I combined them! Anyway I will drop the link here! Lmk your thoughts and enjoy!

“Beneath a Bloodred Dawn: Book 1 The Awakening” by K.P. Everly
As the title suggests, I’ve found myself deeply inspired by The Odessa Dating Games a WIP that, sadly, is no longer available to read. For those unfamiliar with it, you can find the original thread here: The Odessa Dating Games (WIP).
The reason I’m making this post is because I’ve been struggling with how to recreate a similar concept without directly copying the original author’s work. What really has me in a chokehold is the ability to not only romance the heir, but also shape their personality, how they looked and their, responses. That level of customization felt deeply personal and immersive, and I would love to capture something similar in my own project.
At the same time, I suppose I’m also looking for a bit of reassurance. I want to honor what inspired me without feeling like I’m treading too closely to someone else’s ideas and, admittedly, I’d hate to end up feeling embarrassed if others see my work as too derivative. That said, I’m absolutely open to tips, tricks, advice, or resources (including links!) since this will be my first serious attempt at a project like this.
Apologies for the long post I’ve been sitting on these thoughts for quite a while, and I finally worked up the courage to voice them.
Thank you
The premise was general enough that I don’t think you need to worry overmuch. Change a few things, but the concept of a dating reality show is so ingrained that anyone could write something similar without having to worry about infringement. The things I liked about ODG were entirely separate from the framing story, namely centering it around a royal family. As long as your framing story is substantially different (which wouldn’t be hard) from that main conceit of ODG, you should be alright. Even if you want to keep the fairy tale aspects, there are a lot of ways to incorporate those (and the idea of a previously jilted lover using their child for revenge) as well.
Without knowing more about your project, it sounds like you should be alright. Like @HarrisPS mentioned on the other thread, character customization is more of a gameplay mechanic than a specific storyline. Lots of games use similar mechanics for a variety of reasons, not the least because highly responsive customization is big part of the appeal of IF as a whole.
Most games you find on here allow the player to customize things about the MC after all, but I wouldn’t call them derivative of each other because of it. Same thing with customizing an RO; it might be a little less common, but that’s all the more reason to go for it and have fun!
Hey I have a question, why is the MC the embodiment of darkness? Just curious on why you choose that path for the MC
Interesting why didn’t the embodiment of light stop the gods from casting the Mc out ? Were they unable to? Did they just not feel like interfering? Did they attempt to do something or did something stop them from helping?
Have some ideas rattling around in my head. Would be super interested to know what the general interest level is like for each. Please vote for your absolute favorite!

- Untitled cozy fantasy
“City of Smoke and Shadows” is a gritty martial arts fantasy set in alternate-history 1930s Shanghai, with lush world-building, distinctive characters, and elaborate game mechanics for street brawls, action-packed duels, political scheming, relationship-building, and clan management.
There is an ancient, secret method of cultivating and roasting tea-leaves, cha , which allows it to be smoked in cigars, granting heightened awareness, martial prowess, and prophetic visions. European colonial powers, tired of buying expensive, processed cha from noble families in Shanghai, want the recipe. So do the Chinese disenfranchised lower and middle-class, who are no longer contented with letting cha remain in the hands of the privileged few—bootleg cha distributors have popped up like mushrooms.
You play as the youngest child of the Wu family, a clan that controls one-third of the cha trade in Shanghai. You’ve spent the past five years abroad, trying to distance yourself from your family’s bloody legacy… that is, until your brother’s murder drags you back to a fractured city you barely recognize.
In a world where loyalties shift like the wind, and personal vendettas collide with political ambitions, you’ll need to keep your friends close—and your enemies even closer. Violent revolution brews in the shadows, and colonial powers threaten to swallow the Empire whole.
“Cyclopunk” is a compact, imaginative take on the survival-adventure genre. In a climate-ravaged, war-torn post-apocalyptic universe, you have lung cancer. Bike across bleak, desolate landscapes to the mythical Tri-domes for a supposed cure. The clock is ticking down, but the way to the Tri-Domes is perilous.
Pick from many possible branching routes—explore flooded scavenger cities, floating fishing settlements on swamplands, magnificent garden-domes set like jewels in barren deserts, and cave-dwelling colonies. Encounter colorful (and sometimes morally complicated) side quests, distinctive characters, new forms of flora and fauna along the way.
“Golden Boot” is a modern slice-of-life episodic game where you start as a 6-year old who lives for football—slowly shape your character and your story—both on and off the pitch. Realize your dream of becoming a football legend step by step. From childhood training matches to cutthroat youth academies to a make-it-or-break-it Premier league debut to the biggest stage of all: electrifying World Cup, every decision you make will impact your rise to fame—or fall into obscurity.
Thrilling, high-octane football matches accompany a rich tapestry of scenes that make up the highs and lows of a football player, from falling in love, dealing with heated rivalries, buying your first house, or shaping your public persona. Golden Boot is about football—and so much more. It’s about coming-of-age, the people you meet along the way, and the things you’re willing to sacrifice for a dream.
In “Silver Screen”, step into the glamorous, glitzy world of 1950s Hollywood, where you play an actor or actress of colour striving for stardom in an industry that’s as much about politics as it is about performance. Divided into five acts, each representing a new film you’ve been picked to star in, you will navigate the challenges of the showbiz—starting from a complete unknown, dreaming of stardom.
As your career evolves, every choice you make—how you deliver your lines, your relationship with co-stars and directors and crew, your stance on social issues—can determine your future in Hollywood. Will you rise to become a beloved icon, carve out a niche as a critical darling, or fall into the trap of typecasting and scandal? Romance a fellow star, a politician, or a screenwriter-director. Build a family and legacy—while keeping your career intact in an industry that can make or break you overnight.
In "Space Diner”, you play an ex-bootleg space smuggler who’s on the run from the authorities. Desperate to lay low, you stow away on what you think is a simple cargo ship—only to discover it’s a traveling food truck operating across the farthest reaches of the galaxy. After the owner threatens to toss you out the airlock for your sneaky stowaway antics, you convince them to let you stay by claiming you’re a chef, and asking for a job—as someone who knows nothing about food preparation, you’ll need to fake it till you make it (and hopefully not poison anyone or burn down the space truck while you’re at it).
Learn the ins and outs of cooking, managing the space truck’s finances, navigating the galaxy, haggling for supplies at space ports, and caring for the exotic plants in the hydroponic garden so that there’s food to put on the table. Serve up delicious meals to all sorts of different alien customers from grumpy office workers to swashbuckling space adventurers, all with different ideas of what counts as ‘sustenance’. Experiment with new recipes, travel through asteroid fields, space stations, mining colonies, and wonderous new cities. Can you avoid capture, befriend the space truck owner, and become the most beloved space truck in the galaxy? Or will your past catch up with you…?
__ (still untitled) is a cozy fantasy take on the musical band genre. You’re in a band with your best friends: a cheerful orc bassist, a brooding elven drummer, and a charismatic dwarven keyboardist. Together, you’ll travel from tavern to tavern in a vibrant, medieval Japanese inspired world, performing for ever-growing crowds, honing your musical skills, and navigating the ups and downs of life on the road. Craft your own songs, choose your musical genre, and shape your band’s style while building meaningful relationships with the people you meet along the way.
Explore colorful towns, meet quirky locals, and unlock new opportunities as you become a rising star in the music scene. Whether you’re trying to break into the elite performance venues or just jamming in a humble village square, the music you create and the bonds you build will define your journey. Can your band make it big—or will the struggle for success tear your small band apart?
I’m all for Silver Screen because it’s not everyday that you see an Hollywood WIP.
I’m kind of burnt out on martial arts WIPs since there’s already plenty of them. Golden Boot and the band idea is second and third that caught my interest so hopefully you could do them in the future if it doesn’t win out in the poll
Ah I see that makes more sense thanks for clarifying. Excited to see what you have in store .
As far as I can tell, there is only one clearly toku-inspired HG on the forum. Is it because tokusatsu isn’t very welcomed here? What’s your opinion on toku-inspired HG? Would you mind if a HG is toku-inspired? Or do you not care at all?
I think its just not one that is really explored much not even in wip format more than anything really. Now there are elements of it that is but full out? Not so much so really would come down to somebody taking the plunge so to speak.
American or soccer? Cause if it is soccer then well one thing a gay male mc would need to sacrifice is any hope of romance until they’re 40 and their active career is over and meanwhile face the immense pressure of everyone with power in the industry trying to set you up with a footballer’s wife. Rising far enough in soccer means dealing with the ultra corrupt and homophobic FIFA.
Of your concepts Silver Screen would definitely be my favourite of the bunch.
Hi chat, I’ve been working on a game design document for a IF I’m gonna make,I’d be extremely pleased if people gave it a read and yk, told me what you think.
thank you in advance
I’m trying to narrow down a few ideas, so if you could vote for which of these feels appealing it’d be a big help. The results will help me pick something to develop more fully. All of the titles are placeholders:
Through the Hourglass Darkly: The protagonist, a quantum physicist, finds themselves propelled into the distant past. As they drift back towards the present, they discover that history is far darker than was recorded in this time travel/horror story.
Into the New World: Fantasy adventures on a newly discovered continent. The protagonist finds themselves in a strange land far removed from the Tolkeinesque world they come from - a place with no humans, elves, dwarves, or faux-european kingdoms, but instead alien customs and cultures. An anti-colonial fantasy game centered around survival and exploration.
I Can’t Believe It’s Real: The protagonist inherits TTRPG books from their grade-school GM and discovers that magic is actually real - and someone is willing to kill to keep this knowledge hidden. Modern fantasy with hidden dungeons, secret conspiracies, and arcane consequences.
Psychotronic: The protagonist finds themselves in an abandoned facility with no recent short term memory. They’ve apparently been there a while, but have no idea why or for how long, and the place seems to have undergone some kind of catastrophic disaster. Stranger yet, they seem to be developing strange abilities… which they’ll need because they don’t think they’re entirely alone down here. Survival Horror.
Get in the Game: Growing up in a corporate arcology, the young protagonist is fitted with an experimental prototype VR interface that propels them to the top of the e-gaming circuit amid a background of corporate espionage and cyberpunk slice of life elements. Choose your allies wisely because it’s all too easy to fall out of favor, and if the board decides to repossess the tech in your head, they won’t necessarily be gentle about it.
- Hourglass Darkly (Time Travel Horror)
- New World (Fantasy Exploration)
- Can’t Believe it’s Real (Modern Occult)
- Psychotronic (Survival Horror)
- Get in the Game (Cyberpunk E-Sports)
When will you release the demo also are you able to romance the embodiment of Light
My top three are definitely:
- Get in the Game
- Psychotronic
- I cant believe its real
“Get in the Game” is my favorite because I would love to see more cyberpunk stuff.
