What you say sounds easy in sound and practice (to me) but it seems complicated enough for me. Also, since I am doing the coding on my phone, I need to be a little more careful. lol on the one hand, my confusion are there any examples of Character Stats and variations in general that easily understandable. For example, how and where should I put the save slot? And how to delete the extra wordings (like start prepping etc…) Since I’m on the phone, I have to use the web version of available ChoiceScript IDE on the internet. Also, when I code from there, my game can be played in that version, but what should I do when I download it as txt, and so on… Here’s the thing. I’ve somewhat understood how to add both the story start and specific character appearances in the startup menu. And I still haven’t figured out what to do after that.
Maybe you can add the character names and add your own additions to your story, and try to change them a little bit maybe it will be easier for you to post it here? Or another story in the Harry Potter universe and if it’s possible you can keep the characters attitudes same maybe?
wats the website?
Given how it’s fanficion, and this doesn’t truly follow the original lore you can add some gender bent options for the fun of it or just create OCs to add in, because I’m pretty sure the player wasn’t around the time of Harry’s parents attending school with them in the Harry Potter lore
https://choicescriptide.github.io/legacy/ide/main.html if I believe this is (but I’m on Chrome, so the layers looking different in this one wow lol)
oic
for save slot idk myself cuz i havent done that yet
i tested and i i can download my game as html. how did you get it as txt?
with the html i can just open it and it will run my game in my browser.
So basically you should have a bunch of files. your startup file is your first file and where you put all the complicated stuff. But your story should be its own file.
so you have
startup
chapter1
chapter 2
like that.
on top of that website you can click file and then scene and then new.
So my startup file looks like this
*title XXX
*author XXX
*goto_scene chapter1
That’s it for my startup file. For my chapter 1 file it looks like this.
You are a in a forest.
*choice
#go left
you found a rock.
#go right
you found a cake.
it is now nighttime.
That’s it for my chapter.
for character stats you just do this:
on your startup file just add the variables or the stat names by using “*create”:
*create smart 50
*goto_scene chap1
That’s it. So I put 50 which will become 50% as the starting value.
then on the choicscript_stats file you put this
*stat_chart
percent smart
that’s it. if you click show stats it will show ‘smart’ at 50%
when you play the game you can change this stat like this on your chapter1 file:
You are a in a forest.
*choice
#go left
you found a rock.
*set smart %+ 20
#go right
you found a cake.
If you want the stat to change even more just put a bigger number “%+ 30”.
I have no idea how to download that as an html file cuz either I’m doing something wrong or I’m clueless. in DropBox I got the file as txt. Plus I can’t download the file that way with IDE Web’s download feature.
im not sure then for mobile. on desktop browser, i can downoad as a html from that website by clicking ‘file’ then ‘export’. it will say ‘click here to download your compiled game’. then i get it as html.
Wait do you mean, you click on the Scene and then choose the export option ?
The idea that I wont be able to have it in cog or hosted games is disappointing. So I took the Harry Potter idea and mashed it with another idea I had-- the dark academia romance story I wanted to make.
So the concept is now this…
Setting: modern world (with a hidden magical society)
Genres: low fantasy, romance, slice of life
You have applied and received a letter of acceptance to attend Aurelian University, a wizarding university located in Moorsholm, New York. The city of Moorsholm is said to be a charming wizarding college town that has been charmed to be unnoticeable and untrackable by mundies (non-magical folk).
You are either an oldblood (a person from the old wizarding families) or a newblood (a person born from people without magic). Regardless, Aurelian is considered one of the best universities in the world. And you just got a full ride scholarship.
Except, as you make your way through the first week, something unexpected happens.
A male student is murdered and all leads indicate that it’s something to do with SSS Society, a secret group of elite students. As one of the members of SSS Society, you are also put under scrutiny.
So now your job is simple: figure out what exactly happened. And more importantly: who exactly killed him?
Features:
- Customize the protagonist: name, pronouns, gender, personality, and more.
- Pick your character’s background: are they newblood or oldblood?
- Select your House (which building you will room in):
- See which wand wood and core fits your personality the most. (I’ll be using my own lore.)
- Select a major. You can choose between 7 different majors. As of now, they are:
- Pre-Arcane Law
- Pre-Healing
- Supernatural Security and Protection
- Enchantment
- Potions and Alchemy
- History of Magic
- Care of Magical Creatures
But they may change
- Choose your extracurricular clubs you are a part of
- Select between 6 romantic interests. All are gender selectable.
- Solve a murder.
- Select between 4 familiars, each with their own personality: a leopard, a snake, a raven, or a monkey.
Romantic Options:
Altair/Astra Pelletier: Heir to the Pelletier fortune. Hates the MC and is obsessed with triumphing over them academically. Kind of a mean, ambitious, and prideful sort of person.
Appearance: fair skin, platinum blonde hair, light green eyes
Willow/Winter Montgomery: extroverted, playful, and charismatic: An oldblood mage. W has that rockstar charm and knows it. They come from old money and are a bit of a trouble-maker. They have countless admirers and a stream of broken hearts where-ever they go. They always seem to have a new person in their bed every night.
Appearance: fair skin that is extremely freckled, blue eyes, black hair
Emerson/Emeleigne Cresswell: A newblood mage. A serious, broody, and dark character. Tends to be aloof. Is part of a death metal band on campus as a vocalist.
Appearance: Hazel eyes, fair skin, and curly dark brown hair.
Simeon/Simone Thornwood: A newblooded mage. A friendly demeanor, a bookworm and lover of antiques, and someone who wishes to be a Healer. Cinnamon Roll personality.
Appearance: dark brown skin, black eyes, short black afro-textured hair.
Belphegor/Belle Knightley: a halfblooded mage with a demonic heritage. A sleepy, lazy genius who loves studying the stars and tends to repeatedly paint night skies.
Appearance: silky dark brown hair, amethyst eyes, and medium brown skin.
This new premise sounds cool can’t wait to see more. I wish you the best luck with it
Good luck on your new game then! This sounds promising
yes. you click and choose the scene ‘startup’ and choose export, you should be able to see the export button
I’ve been playing with a story idea and have a good chunk written for it, but don’t have anyone to bounce the idea off of so I’m unsure how interested people would be…
It’s a greek mythology inspired Beauty and the Beast kind of story in a world with steampunk elements…
It’d be romance/relationship focused (platonic friendship if not romance) and a narrative about helping “The Beast” find himself along with the various drama that includes.
Genre: romance, fantasy,
Short blurb: You’re a nymph who caught the eye of a beast. A beast who fell in love with your beauty at first sight and– as reminiscent of greek myths the tale may be– you might not be as pretty a creature on the inside. Either way, for better or worse, he has become your responsibility after saving your life. Will you help him thrive? Or will you bend the situation to your advantage instead? Perhaps you’d prefer to pull him further into the darkness along with you.
- Choose between 5 types of nymph that influence your look and abilities
- Choose between 6 different sets of jobs that influence your stats, skills and the possible solutions to problems
- Romance or befriend one love interest
- Help him learn his likes, dislikes and who he wants to be from now on (or don’t, you might have more important things to do)
- Adjust to life with a slightly feral 7’8" being living with you in your fairly small cottage
- Find out the true origin of your new roommate, maybe
- Keep the hamlet of Ironwood safe from the threats that inevitably lurk closer… unless you’re the threat?
A few character tidbits to give more of a vibe;
The Mayor
A portly cyclops man that is somehow always sweating through his prim clothes (and getting it everywhere in the process.) A weasel who sucks up to anyone he perceives has power. How can there be a “mayor" when the town has less than ten people living in it? No one elected this man for anything– for so many good reasons, but this doesn’t stop him from peacocking around like he owns the place.
The Creator
Ariel, The Creator, is a faun obsessed with inventing the newest thing. She spends all day every day in her workshop producing aethertech devices– to the point a large pile of “junk" has built up in front of her shop. Eccentric and fun, she shows her care for others in unusual ways. Do not trust her experiments or dare to offer to help, blowing things up is a favored pass time and she will take advantage of your quasi-immortality.
The Beast
Pan, a huge creature that suddenly showed up in your life. Considering he saved you it is hard to be mad at him for taking up 3/4s of your home, but it’s been an adjustment to say the least. Despite his initial feral state he is incredibly intelligent and always understands what you’re saying– though he can’t seem to speak back to you. Cares about and wants the best for you, but why? Kind of sweet. Needs to experience more of life to figure out who he really is.
The Nymph
You. A semi-divine being who has lived a very, very long time. Counter to most nymphs’ natural instinct to stay hidden away, you have chosen to live near(ish) other people. This was working out for you… until strangers from out of town started showing up to cause trouble.
I know games with a single gender-locked RO can lose interest, but I’m currently unsure if I’d consider making him gender selectable since it feels important to his character… But anyways, that’s a vague idea!
Funny you should say that since Beauty and the Beast is inspired by the myth of Eros and Psyché.
Adds this as another reason I’m passionate about this idea
i usually avoid stories where the characters aren’t human, or aren’t human looking (just not my thing). but your idea sounds sooo good, i would give it a try!
Good luck!
Okay. This is vague but I just want to know if there is a single person interested in this.
Has anyone seen those “Cat Café Trope with boys otome style”? I’m thinking of doing something based on those clichés. A cafe where the ROs are Nekomimis and MC is a client BUT the thing is In the world in which it is oriented all Kemonomimi (human with animal ears and tail) lack human rights and are treated as less. They are more like slaves, pets and even some are strays. Sooo. Yeah. MC will be prejudiced if they chooses to have a puritanical romance with the ROs.
Reminds me of Days of Hana.
