Also I will appreciate any opinion you have on it
First of all, Iâve never introduced a character like this in my life (and Iâve never written fictional stories), but I was inspired and impressed by the game I played, and I decided to visualize what kind of person I was imagining in my head with music and write it that way. English is not my native language, you can already understand how I integrate paragraphs. also, I donât have an aspect that I understand from coding in general. and since I donât have a computer that will need it anyway, it will remain for now as a half-story that will stay between the lines in the Word application on my phone.
Game called; The Last Door (I decided to write by listening to the music of this game. It made me shed a tear not gonna lie
)
AnywaysâŚ
in short, I will post a summary of our character here.
Our main character is 26 years old and has been diagnosed with severe depression and dezorganize schizophrenia by their doctor, from whom they receives therapy, and is using medication on the doctorâs advice. The trauma from their past has affected them so much that they unconsciously shows their distance towards people in their daily life with their attitude. No matter how much the doctors explained to our character, there was no way to fully cure this disease, but at least the medication would help to relieve the symptoms. MC spend their sleepless nights just staring out of their little window. They were not quite sure at the moment when they decided to let our MC out. Our character spends their years in isolation because they have (besides learning their brother passed away after receiving an uninvited letter) no one in their life since the mental hospital and their acquaintances there.
Mental problems aside, the moment you read the letter, something went wrong and you had never seen your brother talk like that. Although your brotherâs death was counted as a suicide, even though it contained almost cryptic messages, you donât trust your thoughts to comment out loud, but you were so sure of that thereâs a lot missed info your brother didnât mentioned in the letter, before he passed away. Now⌠you decided to go to that house out of respect for your brotherâs sake. Despite heâs warnings, and at the risk of losing yourself completely on the road, you set out.
This is it ( I know the paragraphs are looking⌠wonky a lot lol)
I have also written the letter, but it is too long. ![]()
ITâS LONG GOODNESS
Okay, so I edited the concept a little.
In this concept, you still play as Cinderella (or Cinderellis if male) and you still have recently married a prince/ss. However, there are 3 routes all which vary according to which personality the prince/ss has. Accordingly, their hobbies, their ambitions, and even the royal family itself will change, depending on which route you take.
The 3 routes are listed below:
- The Fairytale Prince/ss Route: In this route, the prince/ss is âquiet, thoughtful, and compassionate, often seen as the forgotten sibling due to their older brotherâs charm and larger than life presence. Unassuming, gentle, and kind-hearted, they are so different from the nobles that look down on you.â
- The Trash Prince/ss Route: In this route, the prince/ss is playful, extroverted, and charming. Theyâre seen as the frivolous, trash prince/ss and are often overshadowed by their more competent and colder older brother.
- The Dark Prince/ss Route: In this route, the prince/ss is âicy, brooding, aloof. Theyâre seen as the dark prince/ss and are often overshadowed by their warm and compassionate older brother. Youâre not sure exactly why they chose you, for they donât act like theyâre in love with you.â
Charmâyour fairy friendâcanât be romanced. Neither can the evil step brother/sister. However, they have now quests attached to them that you can choose to complete or not.
Questions I have for people reading this:
- Is there any route that captures your attention?
- fairytale
- dark
- trash
- If you could add a route, what would it look like?
Two things:
First of all, this is a very fun and interesting way to address the whole âthe prince and Cinderella are married, but also I want love interestsâ issue with your original idea. Itâs like 3 ROs rolled into one!
Secondly, as much as I love it, this method could end up being complicated. You know, every scene could potentially change based on which âprince/princessâ we go with. Like I said, I like this idea. But it may end up being a coding nightmare
I have no idea if itâs still in action or not, but there was a game a while back called âThe Odessa Dating Gamesâ that included one RO who you could pick a personality archetype for. It was a cool concept, as is this, but if that writer is still around, it could be a good idea to pick their brain on how that worked out for them.
That said, I do think this particular instance might be simpler than it seems at first. If there are no other ROâs, then creating one RO with three distinct personalities isnât really very different from just writing three ROâs. Itâll take an eye for errors but I think itâs just as doable as multiple romance options and I like the angle.
Iâm still a newbie at coding things so I donât know how realistic this goal is. Still, I do want to give it a try.
This is a good idea!! Iâll see if I can contact them and pick their brain on how this works.
This is encouraging. Thank you for your comment!
Lol! Oh my god we are all so predictable!
Iâd add perhaps an actiony/sporty one, for the people who like training/wargaming aspects more than political/intrigue ones.
Not me, give me âthrashâ prince route, love a cute, charming troublemaker. ![]()
Love seeing more political-themed WIPs pop up and India is certainly a fascinating democracy to set a story like this in. Looking forward to seeing future additions to it â best of luck!
I love the forced choice between damaged lungs, leg, or hands. Brutal and awesome! This sounds interesting to me.
what do you guys feel towards resource management games?
last night I tried checking HG and COG discussions on reddit, it doesnât seem that people dislike management games that tells less story, but they also expect to be able to do more in the game and less randomized outcome
so is the genre still going strong?
Not speaking for anyone else but me. Personally, I hate them. I already have a second job, I donât need my entertainment to masquerade as a third.
I like resource management elements in games. I donât think Iâd want one that doesnât have much of a story.
Iâve played lots of games with no or minimal plot. However, none of them were text games. Story is the defining and winning point of text games, to me, because a text gameâs plot and characterization can go into much greater depth than a graphic video game.
But there are plenty of free game engines and free asset packs available out there. Thereâs no reason to make a management game with no story specifically as a text game.
Unless you want to, of course. That should be a reason enough.
Ok. Iâve started coding this story with the online version of Choicescript IDE (DropBox), slowly⌠Iâve been looking at the coding on different forums (here too) and I think Iâve gotten a little bit of a grasp on it. I also saw how a few of the stories here were coded by putting the ( startup.txt) to the end of the link. I may take a few ideas from there and adapt them to my own story. I hope this wonât be a problem for the authors. As for my story, I donât plan on sharing anything for now until the paragraphs ( and the codes) are in order. Iâm currently setting aside some time for the first chapter in detail. Even as I write these sentences, I have to use translation and Iâm sure there will be a lot of problems that I have to fix to make sense of it. There are so many additions I want to add to my story. I wonât lie, Iâm a little nervous. And thatâs it for today ![]()
i got really scared of the code too but it turns out itâs super simple but everyone makes it so complicated.
Itâs literally four things:
- You write.
- If you have choice you use hashtag
- If choice has consequence, you create a âmemoryâ by creating a variable like x and you make it false. If you use variable (like buying something), then you make x true.
- if you need to use what you bought like a sword just say if x â use sword.
you dont need to say if x is true, you just say if x.
Everything else you learn online but thereâs not that much. You can learn everything about the code in one day using youtube tutorial. I think if there is a book about choicescript it would be only 10 pages for the stuff you actually use to make a complete game.
Would anyone be interested in a Harry Potter fanfiction game? i just want to make it for fun. (i wouldnât make money from it.)
It would set in the Marauderâs Era. You would be sorted in a house: Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, Slytherin, and Gryffindor.
The only problem I foresee is that most of the love interests would be male: Severus Snape, Regulus Black, Sirius Black, James Potter, Remus LupinâŚ
Maybe add Lily Evans and a Greengrass (Slytherin pureblood) girl.
Just not sure of the legalities of it exactly. Is such a game okay to make as long as I dont profit from it?
Alternatively, a game set in Tom Riddleâs era would be fun too. Though most of the love interests (besides Tom Riddle) would be OCs lol.
As far as I know fan games are fine as long as your not profiting off it. Though youâll probably wonât be able to publish through hosted or cog.
What you say sounds easy in sound and practice (to me) but it seems complicated enough for me. Also, since I am doing the coding on my phone, I need to be a little more careful. lol on the one hand, my confusion are there any examples of Character Stats and variations in general that easily understandable. For example, how and where should I put the save slot? And how to delete the extra wordings (like start prepping etcâŚ) Since Iâm on the phone, I have to use the web version of available ChoiceScript IDE on the internet. Also, when I code from there, my game can be played in that version, but what should I do when I download it as txt, and so on⌠Hereâs the thing. Iâve somewhat understood how to add both the story start and specific character appearances in the startup menu. And I still havenât figured out what to do after that.![]()
