Interest Check Thread

Finally! A medieval style story that isn’t about “continuing the bloodline” where you have to marry the opposite gender that you’re not attracted to and can be gay without the weird gaze/side-eyeing of the citizens of the kingdom. Can’t wait to read it!

Maybe if you wrote a bit of info about them people would have an easier time choosing? xD

I picked the servant, only because I absolutely cannot see myself being the type of person who would ever have support from either the clergy or nobility.

Another option might be, all of options above are Selectable options that the player could pick to fit their playthrough?.

And the RO’s profession/Background results in certain scene that exclusive to that background etc?. Granted it would be another work to code and write, but IFs thrive in variations after all.

Is that understandable? I’m sorry , english is not my first language.

My personal option is the noble though.

The clergy one stands out to me as having the most potential (since they seem to have the most influence over the plot) so I picked that one. Having a priest RO is not exactly common in CoG/HG. Plus if the clergy requires celibacy, it would present an interesting dilemma in the end where the RO may have to choose between their calling or marriage with the MC.

My second choice would have been the servant. And from the description I assume that the MC’s spouse will be a noble anyway, so having another noble RO would feel a bit redundant.

Hm, I see, so it’s not so much that they support me but they definitely don’t support the other person. Am I understanding that correctly?

Ah I see, I made quite a leap there in thinking the clergy would work like the Christian church. But it’s your story after all, so make whatever choice you feel is right  I’m sure you’ll come up with an interesting arc for each romance. I look forward to playing the demo when it’s ready!

It’s true that because most people associate the term priest with Christianity/Abrahamic religions in general, they tend to assume there are restrictions about romantic/sexual relationships. If I may offer a suggestion, you might want to take inspiration from religions that have different views about this, like the Celtic druids (more lenient). Or the flamen of ancient Rome, who were apparently required to take a wife (which I learned 5 minutes ago, lol).

Thank you for clarifying this. I can see how it would be different and bring something new to the table.

Hey y’all!

I’m not new to the forum, but I’ve never really posted or interacted before. I just wanted to make a post to gauge interest in a project I’ve been working on. I think it has merit, but I’m admittedly biased towards the idea.

The idea is that you are a custodian who accidentally gets thrown into the chaotic and violent world of supernatural beings. You are “recruited” by the SPAA to work for them. You are assigned to an Expungement Squad. Essentially the people sent in after supernaturals make a mess of things, and the lab techs are done with it. The game places a heavy emphasis on the relationships you form with you co-workers (be it romantic or platonic). Apart from that it’s rooted in dark comedy mixed with the graphic reality of supernaturals wrecking havoc on a clueless population.

I have begun to work on a demo, but most of my time thus far has been familiarizing myself with the coding language as I have zero experience coding. I’ll admit that I take inspiration from some of my favorite hosted games, namely Wayhaven and Fallen Hero. I do worry that I may be taking too much inspiration, but I hope that if there is interest and I continue with the project, feedback can help me steer away from that and truly make it my own project. I’ll include a poll for quick and simple answers, but please, feel free to comment and let me know your exact thoughts. I hope a decent chunk of forum members respond to the poll.

Thank you so much everyone!
Clyde S.

Are you interested in this idea becoming a game?
  • Yes, I’m interested in the game.
  • Yes, I’m interested in the game, but I have some comments/concerns (please comment).
  • I don’t care either way.
  • No, I’m not interested for specific reasons (please comment).
  • No, I’m not interested at all.

I may be interested. I do like the supernatural genre. But I’m not really a fan of dark comedy romance. Those just don’t seem to mesh very well, IMO. If the setting is dark, I may just not pick any romance routes, and I’m not sure how much that would affect the game’s enjoyability.

I see how that’s a concern. I honestly had this idea about going against the grain with supernatural stories. I love Wayhaven, but I wanted to focus on a “nobody” protagonist if that makes sense. And the romance + dark comedy combo stems from the nature of the job and the idea that “misery loves company.” I’m taking a bit of a break from the demo, but I hope that makes sense at the very least to you and anyone else confused. Either way, I hope to get a demo up and running with at least a few chapters to give everyone a general vibe for what I’m going for.

I like dark humour /dark comedy more than romance [although I like writing and reading tragic romance] andI think it goes better with supernatural fantasy than romance with supernatural fantasy.

Not a story I’m currently looking to write, but I spotted this concept on twitter and figured I would share in case anyone was looking for inspiration:

I think it’d be a neat idea that a post-apocalyptic society would hire people to search for documents on old servers that could be used to help rebuild… or even provide an advantage against competing survivalists.

Like a mercenary looking for information?

Pretty much yeah. And there’d likely be competing mercs.

You could choose to leave the info you find behind for others (to help humanity in general) or wipe the server totally after you download it… making your copy invaluable being it’d be the only one left.

Well, one day I imagined if someone is transported to the world of Fallout and they carry knowledge to create transistors. If you know some technology you would know the great potential unlocked that each side would have in the game. And this is just what that thought brought me.

That’s pretty much my thinking too; anyone with knowledge or even just a set of instructions on how to make something like a generator, or even more basic survival-oriented things would be incredibly valuable in a world that lacks such things.

They could potentially make-or-break the balance between one group (say, the NCR) and a rival group (Caesar’s Legion)

Ha, I actually have a plotline in my post-apocalyptic story where a bunch of people is searching for a mythical substance called “handwavium” (because apparently someone made a paper backup of TVTropes in that world).

Apparently, old technology being considered mythical artifacts in the post-apocalypse is a core element in The King’s Eagle. (Which I have not read, so I can’t 100% confirm that, but I do know the author and I’m pretty sure he mentioned something like that.)

Data Scavenging on post-apocalyptic world… Interesting.

Any given hard-drive would be a crapshoot… maybe you’ll get detailed instructions on how to rebuild the power-grid… maybe you’ll get 6 gigabytes of uh, adult media…

I suppose everything is worth something to someone, though
