She is the doctor…
I’m getting the sense that you distrust Doctor Elin.
She is the doctor…
I’m getting the sense that you distrust Doctor Elin.
So I have a question for anyone who has an opinion on the matter:
In the original plot of all this, Robin was actually an RO along with the others. Her role kind of changed to the person who’s either your adversary, thinking you’re a little bit too suspicious for her liking as she’s determined to find out what it is you’re hiding and (if she thinks you’re dangerous) undermine your plans, or your ultimate ally, the person who could basically become your “sidekick” of sorts and can be a great help along your adventure- no matter which side you’re on. (That goes for both enemy and ally) Or just kind of your acquaintance (be it friendly or with a tinge of animosity) who might have some input on the way your story is progressing but because you chose not to involve her all that much she won’t be.
While those two options will stay the same, I’ve been wondering if I should make her an RO again? (Obviously she wouldn’t really want to be your romantic interest if you become her enemy, but you could always smooth things over and win her trust.)
So… yeah. If anyone would be interested in romancing Robin than she might become an RO again? Any thoughts?
Hmm… On the one hand, Ellen Page romance. 'nuff said.
On the other hand, I think it’d work if she became your best friend/platonic soul mate. Honestly, I think I might prefer that because she’s in such an obvious RO position at the moment and it might do well to remind us as readers that just because we’re the protagonist, it doesn’t mean they’re interested. And I don’t know how much time the book portion covers, but broken trust is certainly something not easily repaired - and the trust thing is a big part of the book MC’s relationship with her, yeah? So I don’t know if smoothing things over in that timeframe - without lots of handwaving and the like - would be satisfying.
As unhelpful as this may be, well… what do you as the writer think would fit the character best? We’ve only just met her, after all.
Since I’m not sure yet were I’ll be taking my mc I don’t have a strong opinion on this matter yet, but she was the first one I considered as a potential RO on my first play through.
If she’s not I might take my chances with the good doctor. I prefer an intelligent and confident woman, plus I think she could be the “doing the wrong thing for the right reasons” type and I always have a soft spot for those tropes.
Whole-heartedly agreed.
Yeah, this is where most of my hesitation stems from… and kind of the original scrapping of her whole romantic plot. (Although she does have a “friendship plot” which you can access if she trusts you enough… Then again, most of these characters do.)
That’s also true. She probably wouldn’t be romanceable if you really made her distrust you. (Then again, that goes for any of the romance options. You have to actually have them like you before they like you.)
Eeeh, this is where my back and forth stems from.
Robin herself I see as an independent woman, but I don’t think that romance negates independence (It’s actually a big problem I have with lots of romance movies and books, when one ends up just spending all their time fawning over the other and it becomes a dependent relationship it’s… not my cup of tea.)
I do think she’s someone who wouldn’t enjoy being caged by someone who wants to spend 24/7 with her. But she’s also someone who likes the idea of having someone to trust no matter the situation. And she’s not someone I see as anti-romantic persay… Just independent.
In short, I have no clue.
Okay, if it seems like its set up for that then maybe I should make her an RO.
Well, you’re in luck, Doctor Elin is (depending on your views of her) pretty much exactly like that. She wants to help the world but whether or not she’s really helping the world or harming it is… debatable.
I’m inclined to agree…
Do you maybe see her as falling somewhere on either the aromantic or asexual spectrums? Or… both? I don’t know… my area of expertise is naughty word play. I’ve no idea what to do with relationships other than fanperson over 'em…
I don’t think I’m helping very much, I’m sorry.
… you know I think she might be asexual. Now that I think about it I really think that Robin is most likely asexual.
You’re actually helping a lot so thank you very much!
Hello! I know it’s been a while since there’s been any news or… well, anything, but I just wanted to drop by and leave a little progress report.
So the next update itself is about 40-50% done, I know that’s not a lot but that’s mainly because this is where the story really starts branching and you start having vastly different results depending on what actions you chose and have chosen in the past.
The… result of this is that for some people, this update might actually be much larger than others. It all depends on what you choose (and have chosen).
But yeah! Just wanted to drop by and give that li’l tidbit. Thank you for your patience!
So an update on the update about the update (boy, some kinda inception going on here):
So something came up (nothing bad I assure you! It’s actually a really cool opportunity-type-thing for me but…) I’m going to be gone for about a month… Without internet (or even electronics for that matter).
But! I didn’t want to leave it just as is and disappear off into the void for a month or so. So I’ve put up the parts of the update that are done. This… isn’t much, admittedly. It’s even less depending on how you’ve played up until now.
Now, that being said, I still have a few days before I leave, so I’m going to try to squeeze in some more and hopefully make it so that those who don’t fall into the category of “people who have displayed anti-City tendencies up to this point” will actually have something more than a page or two to read without compromising their playthrough.
That also being said… I don’t know how much I’ll get out of these few days?
That also being said- that’s another reason I put up the demo. Since I’m now running on a tight-time-restriction before a mini-hiatus, I would really appreciate if anyone could tell me any bugs/weird flow/misspell/other critiques they find since I don’t want to leave up a buggy demo before I leave. (And I haven’t been able to comb through what I’ve written as much as I’d like)
That also being said (wow, lots of “being said” things here, huh?) I also want people to have fun with this, so I’ll go ahead and put under spoilers here how to get the most of this mini-update:
So I tried to make it not too difficult, but still selective? Essentially, make sure you tell the truth when saying that you won’t return the book, and make sure your City-People opposing stat has the City side at or below 80, then just make sure mentor’s relationship is higher than the City’s relationship… but that pretty much goes hand in hand with the City-People opposing stat.
Also, if you’re an especial lover of drama, I realized I may have gone a little overboard on one scene… but, hey, some people like melodrama, so why not? I mean this ain’t Sparta… don’t know what I was thinking…
Any questions, I’ll be happy to answer before I leave.
Also, please note, I am in no way dropping this project… It’s just going to be on a month-or-so-hiatus. But I’ve got everything else planned out and the skeletons done so that I can hop right back into the flow of it when I return!
ooh, hooray for opportunities! Good on you~
The update, the update… I’ve played through once so far using the choices I’m considering my ‘canon’ and…
I think I may play a bit too optimistic a City Child to get the scene you hinted at - dear Ezra hopes to make a reformation attempt before even considering dismantling the City (or… maybe I should’ve stayed put…?)
But… Mentor, wheRE ARE YOU?! You enigmatic, cloak-wearing jerk, if you’re dead, I’ll MURDER you…
And the City does have a weakness… strategic dismemberment, eh?
In short…I quite enjoyed what I’ve seen of the update.
Re: grammar/bugs/so on… I didn’t have my English major glasses on for the initial update run-through because… I misplaced my English major glasses.
But I didn’t see anything too distracting or run into any game-breaking bugs.
That being said…damn, it’s infectious… that said, I did notice something in the second book bit - when talking to Uncle Kenny (I was also truthful about meeting Icarus, if that helps to narrow things a bit more)-
Ezra’s the name of my City Child.
I will, obviously, be running through at least a couple more times. I’ll make a point of noting down anything that feels the slightest bit off. Or, rather, I’ll see what I can see and try to get you something before you head out into the wild, blue… Internet-less yonder.
This is amazing love the story within a story! Incarus reminds me of torchwick from RWBY and I love it!
Good luck with your opportunity-type-thing!
I didn’t come across any bugs but there is some grammar things…not much but still something for you
[details=less big post]
Ahaha, sadly, yes, the scene comes with being a bit more… anti-City. ((As that’s what I did first, next are the scenes for those who don’t want to completely destroy The City.))
Mentor isn’t dead… yet.
Strategic is being generous, I think. I mean, yes, it’s strategic in the sense that Miss Julie has a plan… but well, it’s also a bit less… organized… than you might think.
Yay! I’m glad at least what is up there is enjoyable
It’s going to take over us all. A new language will emerge in which all you say is “That being said” in different intonations.
Ah, shoot! Thanks for pointing that out!
Thank you so much! Sadly, I’ve never watched RWBY (it’s high on my to-watch list 'cause I’ve heard some amazing things about it).
@kicks, Y’know… I’ll be honest… I didn’t think it was possible to get Miss Julie to hate you that much… So, congratulations!(?)
But could you tell me when that happened? I’ve been trying to avoid negatives or going over 100%.
That helps a lot, actually! Thank you so much!
Of course!
When they ask your opinion on the book I chose
“It’s Important”
and then when asked on your opinion of the city or something
“Can’t we reform the city”
boy does she hate me
Ahaha, honestly you should win an achievement for making her hate you that much.
Alright! It should (hopefully) be no longer possible to make Miss Julie hate you to the point that she actually has a negative relationship with the City Child…
Hopefully.
hopefully? is it a good thing that she hates you or something?
Ah, no I meant hopefully as in I’m hoping I didn’t miss anywhere else where it’s possible for her to gain a negative relationship with the City Child.
Oh, note to the author: you spelt eastern Oriole wrong, it’s Oriole not Oriel
Oh, whoops! Thank you for bringing it to my attention!
Truthfully, I was going to go with “ritual” instead of “strategic,” but… That didn’t quite work.
That… that being SAID. That being…
oh no.
Also, I ran back through to see the anti-City bits and a wild bug appeared:
Found when I fell to my not-quite death after sneaking back to remedy my earlier sabotage failure - I’d grabbed the wrong toolbox, dun dun dun. I’d also chosen to run from the guy at this point, did not crawl.
If that helps narrow things down at all.
