How the Cards Fall (WIP?)

@potato ok here in Spain greetings are before actual party starting so that’s my confusion. We salute the authorities before enter in the proper diner or dance hall then people enter and royal family is the last to enter between applauses so protocol its totally different.

i don’t care don’t change nothing my rp character feels better he is a sly charismatic who love being aristocratic

I couldn’t be bothered to greet my father, although for some reason the song ‘Girls just wanna have fun’ came into my head when I didn’t decided to greet him.

“Oh Daddy dear, you’re still number one, but girls just wanna have fun…”

That would piss him off.

@potato Why do Maelie’s parts need to be sawed in half? It feels like a real conversation with a loquacious friend. My one small disappointment is that there aren’t any opportunities to tease or otherwise flirt with her. I don’t get a sense of what she means to our character romantically, only that she is a good friend, and that our father thinks her a good match for us.

BTW, before I get to Maelie, there is a missing transition that I believe should include a dance with Ansleigh between:

She laughs gently, but her grin soon becomes apprehensive, “I feel the need to forewarn you… My former dancing instructor frequently told me that I had two left feet. Let’s hope that both of yours are right.”

and

Now that you’ve departed, you’ll need to find someone to dance with. Although you’re not old enough to sign a dance card, there are plenty of young women that would be honored by the opprutunity to dance with a charming prince. The fact that it is your birthday, you are rich, and that anyone who marries you will recieve immense power probably has something to do with it as well.

I should also add that in that last paragraph above, opprutunity and recieve should be spelled opportunity and receive respectively.

Finally, if you decide not to teach Ansleigh how to dance, there should be a short response after you choose to either return to her or not to return to her, as there is with Anson.

Wait… Is “Rhéal” seriously a character’s name? The Copyright symbol threw me off lol

Also, the end screen made me laugh :slight_smile:

"Yeah that’s it for now.

See you later, broskis."

That’s the coolest name eeeever. It should totally be kept that way (even though it’s probably supposd to be just Rhal with some fancy apostrophe).

I like Maelie, don’t cut her in half! She really feels like an older sister character, all wisdom and subtle smugness. She feels like the type for long, complex conversation filled with social traps.

Anyway, Odi gets the same length in words, only in narration and adjectives.
Reading that talk with him fretting about you associating with the wrong crowd made me laugh. He’s so cute when worried, I rather want to go ahead plunge headlong into troubles just to see him wringing his hands~

@MaraJade Oh, okay c: Sorry for the misunderstanding.

@trollhunterthethird To be fair, most things piss him off.

@P_Tigras I thought about shortening it because 1. she said more than Odilon, and 2. I just thought it would be a bore to read. Apparently not? D:

You don’t get a sense of her as an LI because she isn’t one. Neither is Odilon. They’re like… free allies. You don’t have to win them over or anything. To be fair, I did add a line for Odilon that COULD be considered flirting, but mostly I tried to insinuate the PC and Maelie/ Odilon are on good terms.

If you’d like, I could add some light flirty banter? Maelie is the type of girl who’d talk like that naturally.

Thanks for pointing those flaws out! Some of them are just screwed up coding, the rest are just me flailing around the script and forgetting to go back to things. And I always spell those words wrong, slkdfj >:

@FortunesFaded Rhéal! Every time I update the game, I know I have to go in and get rid of the accents. BUT I HAVE THIS IRRATIONAL HOPE THAT THEY WILL EVENTUALLY WORK. I don’t even know how to spell Rhéal without and accent. Rheal looks like it’s pronounced ‘real’, but it is ‘RAY-all’. DAMN YOU CHOICE SCRIPT ;w;

@Jackrabbit I’m glad you like her! I’ve always wanted to have an older sister, but alas… I’M the older sister :confused: And I suppose you’re mostly right, though Maelie does get a bit more.

And don’t worry him too much! D: I worked hard to make him happy in this game, haha. In the novel his life suuuucked.

The name should be Rhéal, it looks like choicescript is unable to print é. I guess it’s the same with Péninsula.

“áéíóú” looks like “áéÃ*óú”

Oh, and @potato I’m writing a game in spanish (lots of accents everywhere) and it works fine to me. Do you use the lattest version of CS?

@potato I’m having similar problems. Akçe is pronounced “akche”, but since the Turkish accent marks don’t work, I’m worried akce looks like “aksay”.

@Aquila in Spanish eh coward try in English like a pro lol. A joke i use my game to improve yours is clearly best than mine.

@MaraJade Hey! It’s only because I intended to share it with my friends, and you know there’re some people who would have a hard time reading in English, and I want them to enjoy the story :stuck_out_tongue:

It doesn’t mean I won’t translate it later if I get good reviews :3

I’ll shoy it to you if I write a decent demo, if you want to

Aggressive and Charismatic aren’t particularly the opposites. If I were you, I would do threatening and charismatic, (people will fear you vs will people like you).

@potato Nah, I don’t find Maelie boring. I look forward to hearing what more she has to say once you sit down with her at that copse of tables and continue the conversation in greater privacy. I’m also concerned by her apparent illness. She doesn’t seem entirely well. Her manner also seemed to become a little odd when she spoke about the Varrathasian forestborn, making me wonder if they had used some sort of mind magic to wipe her memories of them, or some such.

Regarding her unavailability as a love interest, why is she unavailable? With Odi, it was pretty clear that he wasn’t a suitable love interest since he had run away to be with the person he loved, but with Maelie there is no similar story, so it isn’t clear at all.

Finally, I’m experiencing the same issue that @Aquilla reported. Examples:

Rhéal
péninsule
Mériade
Méridian

At the beginning, if you attempt to get a different suit other than the old one, Visionary should go up and Tradition should go down (though only by a little, because this is clothing and not law) because you are throwing away and old, traditional suit in favor of a new one.

@Aquila Aww man. I wish I could speak Spanish… only French D:

I think I have the updated version? I’ll redownload it and switch shit over when I get home.

@lovinglydull oh! That’s interesting. In French it makes an s sound.

@sticky Yeah you’ve a point. I’m miss likely to change charismatic, though. The stats are more like your reputation or how people see you… and aggressive just works. And I’ll look at the other thing you mentioned. I might have had a reason behind it… more likely it was a typo haha.

I’m off lunch. Dinner? Talk to you guys later.

@potato YAY! français!

@P_Tigras Oh no, I forgot to reply to you D:

Maelie isn’t an LI for a couple of reasons. 1. I already have three female LI’s, to match the three male ones. I don’t want it to be uneven! 2. Odilon isn’t an LI, and both he and Maelie fulfill the same purpose in my game. I feel like it would be weird if she was and he wasn’t 3. She’s in the wrong location once the game starts aaaaaand 4. She’s just no that into you c; (She likes older men, and she wouldn’t want to be married into your EXTREMELY prominent family. She’s low-key).

@FortunesFaded Oui… monsieur? Mademoiselle? I can’t remember which you are, haha.

@Everyone I just realized I wouldn’t be able to update the game with the grammar and such on Wednesday because… that’s my birthday! HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME~ Also my family is coming over from Hawaii on Thursday, soooo…

I can’t believe I forgot everything was happening this week. Derp, much?

@potato I had been under the apparently false impression that marriages were for duty, not for love in this world, and the MC’s father seemed to like the match. So everyone is free to marry whom they wish? They don’t have to run away and elope the way Odilon did to avoid an arranged marriage?

It also seems that Maelie’s family is already fairly prominent and that she certainly seems comfortable being with the prince in a large public gathering. And I’d be surprised if her own family didn’t attempt to push her towards the prince, regardless of the age difference. Finally, given their close friendship, I think they’d both probably enjoy having a spouse who is not only a good match politically, but also a trusted friend.

Now all that said, I’m not lobbying for Maelie as a love interest per say, I just think why she isn’t available as one needs to be made a bit more clear in the game, just as it has been for Odilon.

BTW, please put the missing dance with Ansleigh on your todo list for when you find the time.

Ah marriages; for duty.Well i would be with Anson like husband or ejem. If not daddy well suffer a horrible accident,poor dad. Long live queen.

@potato monsieur :stuck_out_tongue:

@potato HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU :slight_smile:
