Halloween jam 2025- Games are here Poll open

I meant that it would be too ridiculous for my brain to be able to plot it properly (or at least without getting mixed up all the time).

Although it might work if I use different languages.

As we come to the end of the first week, how is everyone’s story coming along? It’s been nice to focus on something other than Wonderland Noir for a little while.

If it’s a spaceship you could have it called the Celtic Rose after the name of the ship AI therefore the spy android they have could also get called Celtic Rose

i’ve been doing very very unstructured brainstorming, and i think it’s going well! i had a few unconnected idea blurbs floating around, and the other day while i was just chilling at home i thought of a fun way to bring them together for a creepy weird game, so i am gonna think more on that in the coming week or so and hopefully get a reasonably-solid premise down!!

I don’t fancy the MC’s chances under those conditions. But it’s not a spaceship, it’s a post-apocalyptic zeppelin.

That remember me the first Outer worlds game the ship has an Ai very bizarre so it only can be managed by someone called . I dont remember if was thorne or something like that. The funny pun is the ship totally knows you arent the real captain but tags alone because it needs a captain.

I’m done with outlining! So far, I’ve written 13k words, mostly just prologue stuff and setting. I expect that word count to quickly and significantly decrease as I proofread and remove my unnecessary ramblings.

Thats impressive! Really impressive. Even if you cut later is a very good rithm. Just don’t burn out. A jam is to have fun and vibe

In one week?
That’s amazing! I wish my brain could let me get that amount of words out.

I managed about 1000 words, despite the world very much not going my way, so I’ll count that as a success.

I think it’s just the initial excitement at the start of a project–the honeymoon stage, so to speak. I probably won’t be able to write anything again for the next couple of weeks. Here’s to hoping we finish on time!

I played Judith in THE LIFE OF BRIAN on stage a dozen years ago! I am so glad folks are still enjoying MONTY PYTHON  (they are timeless, in my eyes)

Aaaanyway…Carry on!

Wow! I have just written the first 500 words in a very long time. It is being emotional. The story I am writing is unfiltered, bizarre and nonsensical. For years I tried to normalise my writing, trying to be more likeable for the masses. Eiw always tried to make me write what I really like and be myself, even if it isn’t popular.

So I will try to honour her by doing exactly that. Nobody will like it but it will be genuine and what I really want to write about.

There is a saying that goes “As long as one person likes what you write then it is worth it.” and that includes you yourself. As long as you enjoyed writing it, it will always be worth it :slightly_smiling_face:

What has the average submission been in the past for these? I know the minimum is 1500 words, but I’m guessing actual submissions are much longer.

There is no real average. Within years have been really big ones and shorter entries.

What I can tell you it is that bigger doesn’t mean that would be better voted. There have been chosen games on the smaller side.

My advice is to focus on the core paths and later on see if you can add less important branches a 15k 20k can be a very solid game in the schedule

15-20k might be doable! Thanks for the response, I’ll try to get something together for the jam!

I’ve had a few concept ideas the last couple of weeks but nothing really stuck. But I had an idea this morning which I think will be perfect so now I really have to knuckledown with Chapter Three of Quiver so I can get this started.

Figured out what I want to do with the prompt and pretty interested in it; and with double the amount of time to work with compared to last year lol. Thanks for giving everyone a chance to do this again this year Mara, it’s very meaningful. <3

Thank you for running the jam!

I suspect I already know the answer, but just to double check, for snippet day, we are not allowed to share snippets from our Halloween jam WIP, are we?

Thanks for your time.
