Halloween jam 2025- Games are here Poll open

It sounds delightful on theme.

Lately, I have been re-considering an old idea of writing some dark fairytales.
I definitely think this theme will work for one of those.

And for some reason, my first thought about the ā€˜rose’ part of the theme was the song Rosenrot by Rammstein…

Celtic folklore is so interesting!! I think I’m going to try and actually take part this year since it’s the first time I’ve been free around October time in, well, years. I’m sorry to hear about your friend by the way. I think the jam is a beautiful way to remember them.

Um, quick question or concern, and my apologies for reading the synopsis for the jam yet not fully processing it. Are we allowed to post our WIP for the jam to the public viewing on cog demos or is that disallowed … cuz if the later I may have accidentally violated this rule. look of personal shame*

No. No public demo. All demo prior to the deadline has to be private. The link of the demo has to be set to private . The games only got public when the jam ended and ended up in the voting week.

It is that way to avoid dramas and not pressure other participants who are watching others have a full game while they struggle.

It also hypes readers to read the games in the voting week and vote for their favourites.

But how can you have a game in less than a day?

Just the first little bit of the game that I wrote this morning. I will adjust the listing to private right away. Am I still allowed to compete in the jam? If not, my bad and I understand. If so, cool.

Update: Made the game private and updated it to restricted access with only myself as a valid player.

Yeah, of course you can. You only made an easy-to-fix mistake. Simply made it private and that’s it. If you have any doubts about anything you can post here or pm me.

You didn’t make anything wrong it was a simple mistake we have all made sometimes.

Yesss…the best time of the year is back!!! I don’t participate as a writer, but I have always looooved reading the HALLOWEEN JAM stories. :jack_o_lantern: Best of luck to you all, thanks for letting us read your tales every year!

Well I may already have a concept to work on.

I just need to focus on getting Chapter three of Quiver sorted then can devote October to write my entry

Tentatively joining as well. The theme is incredibly creative and open ended. The difficult part now is settling on a direction.

I’m setting my main project aside for the jam. I think I’m already too invested in this. I have an idea in mind that’s a little closer to home, so I’m more motivated than I thought I would be in writing my entry.

Just realized I haven’t properly thrown my hat into the ring! I will be making my best attempt to participate, indeed. Thank you, Mara, you’re the loveliest host. Thank you, Eiwynn.

I love the expression. I was concerned at first as in spanish throw something like a shoe or hat to something means you are mad. Glad you are on board

I have a question about the theme, is roses, night, and celtic folklore all a part of the theme and all have to be included? Or just the story just has to relate back to celtic folklore/mention celtic roses in some way. I do have an idea in mind that focuses more on night and roses, currently not too sure how to work the celtic theme into it if that’s required.

I’d also like to know where are we submitting this when deadline is up and if it would be okay if I submit something the morning the day after the deadline for whatever reason.

About the deadline, when the game is ready, the author sends me privately the link to their game that I will make public after the deadline.

It has happened in other editions of games published after the deadline, they are included as honorary mentions, but they are not part of the games that people can vote for.

And about the theme, Celtic rose can be anything. Always the author adresses why The plot is like it is. Like I commented Celtic Rose can be a ship, a soccer club or a spy. Or even a Chaos god. And of course can be a Celtic folklore tale as well. Imagination is the limit

I am currently very sad that naming both a ship and a spy ā€œThe Celtic Roseā€ would look too ridiculous.

Got it, thanks for answering

I was watching yesterday, The Life of Brian. So I totally disagree. Nothing is too ridiculous. Prachett Monty Python, Twain has proven that anything can be done if it is well planned and written.
